The Manager who works the desk is a total Jag Off with the customer service skills of an elementary school student.. He would not let you explain anything to him and when he started cursing is when I just hung up... If you have another option I would avoid this place read more

According to this company's official rules, they rent cars with temporary paper driver's licenses. But when we arrived at the office, they refused! We also presented our passport and credit card and wanted to rent a car for the day, but it turned out their rules were incorrect. read more

My experience at the PGH Airport was pretty awful. I discovered the next day too that the car I rented had no tread on either front tire. Upon close inspection, I saw that had been driving on exposed cord on both tires. (Take a look below.). My family could have been hurt if either tire had failed at highway speeds. A disaster waiting to happen. When I was given a substitute car, I discovered that all four valve stem covers were missing. Basic safety stuff that this Avis location apparently ignores. I wrote to the Avis operations manager and telephoned to lodge a complaint. No response. Tires do not go bad overnight, so the hazard must have been ignored for quite some time. Apparently, no one cares or is paying attention to customer safety. Bottom line. This regular Avis Preferred customer (Wizard number W803189) will never again rent at this location. read more

I rented a car from Budget and it was the worst car rental experience I have ever had. I got in late due to 4 hour delay. It was already an exhausting day. I waited a few days to write this so I would have a calmer response. A young man helped me and was so miserable to be working. He mumbled a lot and I could not understand him. I had to ask him to repeat himself three times. Upon the third time I heard door one and went for it. I had reserved a mid size sedan. I just pressed the button on car remote to find the vehicle. It was a Jeep Ranger. Cool car but but for me. I was so tired I said to myself to deal with it. I lugged my luggage to the vehicle only to have challenges to start the vehicle. I went back inside and he was gone. I called the number to reach someone but the voice recognition was not understanding what I was saying. I am articulate and pronounce my worlds clearly. I went back to the car in hopes I was doing something wrong. Nope it would not start. I went back inside. Still no signs of the associate. I called roadside assistance- still an issue navigating the voice recognition prompts. However in the beginning on my call it asked if I was calling for Avis or Budget. There was a young lady at the Avis location. She was warm friendly and helpful. K. Stewart was so helpful. She was able to get me in a vehicle that started. Thank you so much! She saved the day. I am woman. No was alone in a dark stranded airport parking lot. I am so thankful for her! Therefore I am giving Avis 5 stars! Compassionate and caring employees make a difference. Thank you again! Budget is getting a 1 star! read more

AWFUL. Beware of this place. I rented a car here because it was a lot cheaper then what I could get at the airport- $65 vs $200. They close at 4 pm. I had a flight delay and lost luggage, and didn't think anything of this because most rental car places have extended hours- I took a cab all the way there to find they were CLOSED and they didn't have any after hours pickup options, leaving me stranded with three large suitcases alone in downtown Pittsburgh. When I came back to the airport, they refused to transfer my registration and I had to pay $300 for a car PLUS $100 worth of cab fees. Absolute trash service. They should make it clear that these hours are so limited if there is a delay, and at the very least should've honored my reservation. I will never rent from Avis again, and I will make sure none of my friends and family do either. read more

This review is for both the particular location that I used back on September 23rd, 2012 and for Avis' customer service on their 800 number just now. I had arrived to Pittsburgh at 6am via bus from NYC and had several options for renting a car (see photo). Avis turned out to be the best deal on top of being located in an easy-to-find location (in addition to being easy to return the car). I was aware of a 29-minute grace period before being charged another day (or hour). The clock/timer on the parking garage entrance was 6 minutes fast, and me being me, this mattered. It said I returned at 8:47 even though my cell phone showed 8:41am. I immediately took a photo, intending to use this in case I were to be overcharged, even though the location doesn't open for business until 9am and wouldn't be able to rent the car out to anyone for another ~20 minutes anyway. I was back in Pittsburgh on October 9th and made it a special point to get back to the place so I could resolve the situation in person. It turned out that it's hard for the particular store location to make adjustments if it's been more than a few days. The guy there, Francis, said it's not a huge deal to make the adjustment but that it's out of his control and that if I call the 800 number, it should be fine. Pause for ~6 months. So yeah, today I finally made time to pick up the papers and phone and make a call. They first said I returned the car late and then after I explained the situation and offered to send the photo I took that demonstrates the clock discrepancy, they gave me a 'one-time courtesy' and I'm now ~75 dollars richer. Or less poor. Your call. read more

Avis Rent A Car - Rental options -- definitely choose Avis! - Car Rental Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

I travel a lot for work, and rent cars often. This location is by far the best I've ever been to. The staff takes pride in the cleanliness of the vehicles, the appearance of the facility, and genuinely cares for their repeat customers. After only renting a few times, they began greeting me by name when I arrived, and I've been treated like family ever since. I highly recommend this location when traveling locally or out of town. Not only is the service top-notch. But it's also cheaper than renting from the airport, due to less taxes and fees. read more

Reserved a car two weeks ago, had delays getting to Pittsburgh. We we're four hours late coming in. I tried to get my car and the lady at the desk so rudely told me they closed two hours ago and they ran out of cars. So reserving and being preferred doesn't make any difference. I'll spend my money elsewhere! read more

We rented a car on avis.com for a one way trip out of downtown Pittsburgh. The Kia Sorrento provided had under 20,000 miles and was in excellent shape. Because the SUV was sourced from Minnesota location, it even came equipped with its own snow brush, haha! Unfortuantely, the Stanwix Street location in downtown Pittsburgh did not provide anything close to the customer care experience that we are accustomed to with Avis at other locations. Firstly, when we picked up the car at noon which was not even three hours past our original 9:30 AM reservation, we were told that the clock was already ticking and so the car had to be back in by 9:30 the next morning or else we would incur late charges. I have never heard of such a thing in the rental business. The clock starts when you drive off of their lot. That's how it works at Avis nationwide and so the clerk either did not understand their business rules, or misrepresented the reservation policy to us. (It is industry standard for rental start times to be held for up to twelve hours without incurring cancellation/late fees. Upon returning the car, the location accepting the car gave us until 1pm, the whole 24.5 hours which is what we paid for.) The next problem that we encountered was when my wife, who is a registered Avis Preferred member (or what they call "wizard"), asked if the dropoff for the reservation could be altered to a location closer to our work for our convenience. We expected a switch could be done easily for a modest convenience fee, but it would be cheaper than the amount of tolls and time we would spend on returning the car. The clerk at Pittsburgh did not know or care how to make an existing reservation change, instead he insisted that it could not be done because the reservation had already been prepaid. Maybe that was true that his system would not permit him to update reservations but given that it is a car rental business and they make reservations every day, I thought he was just lazy. Avis in general takes care of its customers, so we knew we could just call corporate and sort this out, but this extra aggravation was not necessary in my view. I next called the prospective dropoff location and of course, they were willing to flex it as long as their system allowed them to bring in this one car. This may vary, but for my existing res, there was no additional fee for making the change in the dropoff location. And since the location I chose has high turnover it was no burden for them to take the car back. Had the Stanwix Street location been willing to call our receiving location, or at the very least provide us with accurate info. about reservation policy then I would have a more favorable view, however they did not seem willing to go the extra mile. read more

You can save a lot of money here over the cost of renting from the Avis at the airport. Just hop on the 28X bus and let it take you to the first downtown stop. I ran into an issue which the staff were quick to solve. I have only a debit card, and I had only enough money on it to cover the cost of the rental (since the insurance was prepaid). Avis needed to authorize a $200 deposit in addition to the rental, and while I had that much cash, they don't take cash. My wife had more on her own debit card, but she doesn't drive, so they couldn't rent the car to her. After a few minutes of stress, the staff suggested that we shorten the rental to 1 day, charge that (and the deposit) to my debit card, drive to a branch where I could deposit the cash, and call back to extend the rental to its original length. We did exactly that and it turned out great. I sure wish a debit card weren't such a hassle to use, but I'm glad Avis was able to find a solution that worked for us. Thanks, folks! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. The manager, John, is one of the rudest people I have ever met. Beware hidden charges, delays, and absolutely terrible customer service. I have rented numerous cars from other companies and will NEVER use this sad excuse for a company again. read more

Horrible experience with this place. If your looking to have a nice day do not use Avis they will ruin that for you

Absolutely horrible! Have flown into PA many times and this is the first time I've used Avis. Typically use Hertz or Enterprise with no issues, but man will I never use AVIS again! First of all when we got here, the guy tried to rip us off. We spent extra to upgrade to a standard SUV and he gave us the keys to a small hatchback Outlander sport. Asked him if there was anything else available and he said no. When we got to the car, it was even smaller than a RAV and what we paid for was a size up from the RAV. After packing our things in, I went back to verify there wasn't anything else and why we didn't get some sort of refund for the vehicle we prepaid for. As soon as I said something he pretended he "just realized when we walked away that the computer made a glitch". Never even attempted to come grab us. Then handed me the keys for a 7 seater Kia Sorento, what we originally paid for. Upon return he wouldn't even come to the line of returning cars (same guy) made us go back to the car and just tell him our mileage and drop off the keys. DO NOT RENT HERE. THEY ARE HORRIBLE. Sad bc most Avis' are awesome. read more

Came to drop off a week-long rental to find the Stanwix garage close. Called the local number but transferred to National. After an hour and a half, they told me I have to go to a different location. Nevermind that my car was waiting for me in downtown. Half a day of wasted time. Grrrrr!!! read more

Worst customer service at this place. I chose this location as my return. And any minute late return you will be charged with a full hour rate. Which was almost as much as a daily rate. No grace period or understanding at all. Then all the staff repeatedly said like a parrot "call corporate". She was as useless as a TSA agent. And she ask the customer to go to the car and perform her work. I had to run t the car and record the mileage for her. Why didn't I get paid then? read more

I rented a car from Avis on October 12. I let the employee know that my car had been hit in an accident and was going to be in the shop for an undefined length of time. I learned that I could extend my reservation as needed. I had to extend my reservation 3 times. My car is still being repaired so today I called to extend my reservation again. I learned that I am not allowed to extend my reservation more than 3 times. And, I must pay a late fee. This is absurd. I would like to continue being a customer, and instead I must either be penalized or return the car. The man told me I could start a new rental agreement. I asked him to start one over the phone, but he said no, I had to return the car I was driving. I asked to speak to someone who could help me or waive the fee, and learned that I was already speaking to the "owner." I am going to return the car and get another rental from Enterprise. I guess they'd rather have the car back in their lot than with a paying customer. read more

I rented a car with this location as the drop off point. I returned the car to the parking garage as instructed and then went to the front desk. I signed all paper work and returned the keys. About 4 days later I received an awful phone call where I was being accused of causeing damage to this vehicle. I became very angry. I called the location back and was again accused of causing "concrete" damage to the vehicle. I asked the lady if they had viewed the cameras in the parking garage to which she replied, "We don't own the cameras." The lady wanted me to write a report stateing I hadn't run into anything. When I asked her what would happen if I didn't waste my time as a customer writing a report she replied, we'll do what we have to do. I will never ever use this company again nor recomend them to anyone else, worst experience and customer service ever! read more

I really like using this rental car service... they're conveniently located downtown near where I work, they always give me good service and have met all my expectations when dealing with them. Only drag is the setup of their agency... cars are kept in the shadowy depths of a narrow parking labyrinth. Pro-tip when you're returning the car, the parking space is easy to miss if you're not paying attention. read more

Budget and Avis are both at this address. I rented through Budget but I believe it would be the same staff and so forth, for both. Booking was easy. Pick up easy. Vehicle better than expected and return seamless. Thank you!!! Friendly staff!! read more

I've always been a loyal Enterprise rental customer, but thought I'd give Avis/Budget a try. I rented a car for 24 hours from the downtown Pittsburgh (Stanwix St.) location. I was sitting in the rental car in about 5 minutes of getting into their office! So fast! And the woman working at the counter was very helpful and friendly, and even gave me a comp upgrade into the next class of vehicle. I also tried out the "Pre-Pay" option when booking my car online, and that saved a few dollars. I will now be renting from Budget/Avis in the future, due to the ease of renting a car, and also the cheaper rates and friendlier service! Thank you!!! read more

I flew into Pittsburgh today and had the opportunity to be helped by Desiree. Had some problems with my rental. Nothing that was Desiree's fault. She went above and beyond to help me. This woman was absolutely amazingly friendly and sweet. Avis should consider themselves very lucky to have her working for them. read more

The after-hours drop-off requires renters to complete a paper form, but there is no pen or pencil provided at the location or in the vehicle. I ended up unsuccessfully asking many passersby if they had a pen, and ultimately had to run several blocks in the rain back to my apartment to grab a pen. read more

Horrible experience. They did not have a car, we were told to go to the airport (not offered the ride). At the airport, we we told we could not get a car because our reservation was for the Downtown agency. We had to call customer service to change that. Calling was awful. They did not understand the problem, it took forever and they charged us $30 more!!!!! In the end it took us 2,5h to get a car!! read more
