First time ever using Avis. My company switched our rental car company from Hertz to Avis. Due to my Avis Preferred status - I skip the Avis counter in the terminal and proceed directly to the Avis booth in the rental car garage. It's a short jaunt out an interior walkway (complete with moving walkways - although some of the slowest I've ever seen). There were two customers in line in front of me when I arrived - but I only has to wait about 2 minutes to get my keys and contract and I was on my way! I reserved a Mercedes VITO as evidenced by the Expedia Retal Confirmation document uploaded to the Chase Dispute Site. Upon arrival at the Budget Rental Counter after flying overnight from the United States, I was told by the rental agent that we were being assigned an SUV, NOT the Mercedes VITO that I reserved for $943.12. This assigned SUV vehicle was far too small to accommodate our six travelers and luggage as well. I did not reserve an SUV; I reserved a Mercedes VITO. After much conflict and discussion with the Italian agent - broken English on her part - she would not provide me with the Mercedes VITO at the price I had reserved on Expedia site. After over an hour, I had no options at the airport than to take the Mercedes VITO. We could not stay at the airport as we had to get to our next location. The small SUV would not hold us and our luggage. This was a bait-and-switch performed by the Budget Rental Agent and company. She would not explain why I could not have the Mercedes VITO that I reserved at the $943.12 price. I had no choice at that time but the take the Mercedes VITO at the more than DOUBLE the cost of original agreement, with the only hope that I could dispute the unfair practice of the bait-and-switch. I have a 6 week vacation road trip coming up this July, and i will be renting my vehicle from them as i alway have and will for my short and long term business rentals. Totally dishonest business. Stay away from them. It's highway robbery. Reserved and paid for the reservation. Purchased the insurance ( only one option they have while making the reservation. ) When paying , they add more than $100 of fee/charge to the total which is about $417 USD for 8 days of rental. Nightmare when I arrived at their Manchester location to pickup the car. I was told that the insurance i purchased was very basic and in the event I got into an accident, I would have to pay more than like two thousand dollars. In order to avoid that I was forced to take out more coverage which came out to be more than the total I originally paid for the rental. So instead of paying like four hundred dollars, I wound up paying close to $900 total for the same rental. So stay away from this company. I honestly believe if they were doing business like this in the States, they would have been sued long time ago. I would give zero star if I can read more

worst car rental ever! Use enterprise by any means, they genuinely wanna help and take care of any type of issues you run into. I rented a car from Budget while on a trip and the car was hit when it was parked and no one in it. I was able to get the other persons insurance information along with a police report for the damage. Right away I notified Budget and they asked for all documentation, which led me to believe it was going to be taken care of. Wrong, even when dropping off the car at the airport gave all required documentation for the accident. About two months later they sent me a bill for around $1,000 dollars. I called Budget about the accident and was told I needed to go through their third party "investigation" department. Again, sent all required documentation to the third party and was told it would be taken care of. Well was not and got another notice and called in just to be told the prior person did not submit any of the files I sent, and would be needed to be done again. Long behold this person lied too and they sent the bill to collections and Viking the collection department was the one who took care of everything and got the bill covered by the insurance. if you want someone to try and sabotage your credit score Avis/Budget is the place to go with as fast as you return that car they will ruin your credit! i had to do a lot of leg work and that's the only reason companies like this do these actions, they know they will get the money from the customer or a debt collector will buy the debt for less. They are in a win win situation, while we as the consumer are left with a debt that is not ours to pay and possible work on getting negative remarks removed from credit report. read more

So many issues!! I travel constantly and am continually on mini leases. This location has been the worst I have ever used. Almost 2 months after I returned the vehicle I am still waiting on a credit for the over charges. Dates were messed up from my initial rental which then affected my following rental. Rather than allowing me to keep the vehicle I had, I was told I needed to upgrade to a more expensive vehicle since it would not be the same mini lease. I spent hours on the phone and have talked to numerous customer service reps just to get passes along to someone else. Definitely not the experience I am accustom to with Budget. read more

I had a reservation made to rent a vehicle. When I went to pick it up the person behind the desk didn't even look it up. Next when I went to pay after getting some weird looks I had just got off of work... I went to pay and magically they "don't take debit cards" which is funny as their corporate run website states "some locations do not" and New Hampshire is one which is NOT listed. I called costumer service and they wanted to send me to Methuen Massachusetts instead. Needless to say I had to cancel my plans due to " company policy" which is NOT stated and costumer service was not helpful either as they do not care about the consumer and I highly doubt the owner of this franchise does either. read more

I highly suggest not using Avis for your car rental needs. I think it's the company overall, but this specific location was not helpful at all with the headache we went through. My boyfriend and I made a reservation for a rental car three weeks ahead of our planned trip. We made the Avis booking because we had an Avis gift card that would've covered the entire amount, but when we went up to the desk the agent told us that they couldn't help us because the coupon needed to be added to the reservation when we booked it... which was literally not an option we were given online. So we sat next to the customer service counter for literally over an hour trying to call multiple different Avis and American Express customer service numbers trying to find someone who could help us and every number we called said they were unable to help add a simple coupon code to our reservation... please keep in mind that there was absolutely no line and the agent at the Avis desk was helping no one, yet refused to try and help us figure out how to us our AVIS gift card to pay for our AVIS reservation. This is probably the worst customer service I've ever experienced (simply because there was a complete lack of it) and I've worked in various service industries before... TL;DR- We had an Avis reservation that we planned on paying for with an Avis specific gift card that we received from American Express. Absolutely no one (Avis and American Express included) both in person and over the phone said they could help us. So essentially we have a $100 gift card only good for Avis, that Avis says they can't accept, yet won't help us figure out how to use....Stay far far away. read more

Let me tell you about the nightmare experience I had with this Avis. In late December of 2021 my husband and I rented a car from the Manchester, NH airport location and planned to drive back to Chicago. It was around 8pm when we started noticing the car transmission was acting up. We just barely made it to the nearest rest stop before the car completely broke down. No driving function whatsoever. I called Avis's customer support thinking to myself "Okay, this is terribly inconvenient but they'll send someone to come get us and bring us a new rental. It shouldn't take too long". It took an hour to get through to a human being on the customer service line. Once I did and explained the situation I was told to wait for a call back. Another hour went by. I called again and found out that my case was put on the end of a long list of cases and that it could be hours before it was even gotten to at all. Meaning that we were just sitting there stranded and there was zero urgency put on the matter from Avis to even acknowledge us at all. Every time I called I was put on hold for 40mins to an hour before I could even get through and every time I finally got through I got a different person who I had to explain our situation to over again. Every time I was told that they'd try to handle it and was left waiting with ZERO follow up. I was told excuse after excuse. I was told there was a weather situation in California that they were dealing with which took priority over my case. Why customers in California take precedent over customers sitting stranded in below freezing temperatures on the side of the highway in Wisconsin in the middle of the night due to a broken down piece of junk car I do not understand. They told me they were not able to send anyone to pick us up due to some rule that they could not go to rest stops? They told me my only options were to get an Uber to pick us up and bring us to a hotel and later "apply for a reimbursement". Since it was the middle of nowhere and the middle of the night at this point Uber rides were over $200. The other option they gave me was to call the police to have them give us a ride to a nearby town. We were not comfortable with either solution. It took over EIGHT HOURS before a tow truck finally came to pick us up. We were driven to the nearest airport where we had to sit and wait two hours for Avis to open to get another car. When we finally got back to Chicago we tried to call to get compensation for this horrendous ordeal only to be met with rep after rep directing us to a different department. Not one person we spoke to accepted accountability in any way for what happened or offered any help or compensation for the fact that we were put in that situation in the first place. We received no refund. We were brushed off and redirected until we gave up. Not only that, but we were CHARGED A $200 LATE FEE! So just to recap...Avis gave us a car with a broken transmission, left us stranded for over 8 hours in below freezing temperatures in a broken down car in the dead of the night on the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere, took zero responsibility for any of the danger we were put in, offered us no compensation of any kind, and CHARGED US A LATE FEE. It took me so long to write a review because the situation was so traumatic for us that for my mental health I needed to just move on. Avis, feel free to reach out to me to make this right. I had booked a car for two days at a cost of $183 but when I called to extend the trip by one day they tried to increase to bill to over $700. The excuse was that despite my trip being in August that the rates reflected the upcoming 4th of July holiday. Obviously, I waited until the holiday had passed to try again and this time I was quoted over $500. When I called and asked why one extra day was more than double the cost of the whole trip they said that was just their current pricing. The only other idea they suggested was just returning the preferred day and paying whatever the rate would be at that time. Who in their right mind would agree to that option not knowing what the cost would be?! Needless to say this was a horrible experience and as an Avis loyalty member I'll now need to find a new rental company to give my business to. read more
