Our family recently rented from this location and was amazed at the high quality service provided by Joe! He exceeded our expectations on three separate occasions (pick-up, adding driver, drop-off). In addition, the vehicle was in great condition. If Avis corporate is reading this review, suggest you consider promoting Joe to teach others about true customer service. read more

Awful experience. The car I reserved wasn't available and was given a completely different car which was dirty inside and out. Bird poop all over the outside. Charged me for an extra day which I asked him to fix and he claimed he did but he didn't. Also, the invoice said "full tank of gas" but it was less than half. I didn't notice until I drove off and so had to call Avis and submit documentation to show I was telling the truth. Just awful. Avoid at all costs. read more

Knowing I needed to rent a car, I went online and prepaid for a rental car for two days. When I arrived to pick it up, I was told that I needed to pay a higher deposit due to pre-paying. I then cancelled the reservation to reserve and rent at the desk. While I was waiting, I occupied my time by calling Avis corporate and asked if I could use my traditional CREDIT card to pay the deposit, and my DEBIT card to pay for the one day rental. I was told that wasn't a problem. When the agent at the desk was available, I explained the call I just had with Avis. She had me insert my debit card, which took the deposit and one day rental. I figured she would split the charge when I entered my credit card, it tried doubling the charge. She couldn't figure out how to reverse it, so she cancelled the transaction, therefore there was no Rental Number, Contract Number or any means of tracking it. She started a new transaction, we put it all on my credit card. But the deposit was still out of my bank account for an entire month. Avis corporate said "without the rental or contract number, there was no charge". Despite the fact that I sent them screenshots of the transaction on my debit card and merchant information from my bank. This was a horrible experience, and even worse customer service and interaction. Pay a few bucks more to avoid this terrible company. If you're in the Southern California area, contact Greenleaf Rentals. They saved the day, unlike Avis. read more

This is a small rental office conveniently located close to my hotel. Joe helped me with my rental. He was friendly and helpful with my reservation. It was my first time navigating around an electric car and he took the time to show me how to handle one. I'm really impressed with the top tier customer service provided. Highly recommend this location and Joe. read more

This is one of the best locations I have ever came to, and if you ask for Joe, he will make sure to take care of you one of the nicest persons there very helpful read more

Amazing place to rent cars! Quick, easy, and great service. The best AVIS Location to rent cars.

Thankyou for the excellent service! My sister and I rented an electric car here and all went well!! Thankyou!

Felt the need to give a glowing shoutout to Adam, who works here and helped me immensely. The Avis agent at the airport would only rent me a pickup truck despite a reservation I made months ago for a compact car. I explained the situation to Adam and he was able to help me immediately and rented me something I felt much more comfortable driving. You're the man Adam! read more

Very convenient, friendly, helpful. Exceeded expectations. Very happy I chose this location

While the selection is more limited at this Avis location, Joe more than makes up for it. Simply put, he exemplifies customer service and professionalism. While renting a vehicle from Avis for several months, I encountered a few mechanical issues. Each time, he worked with me to resolve the problem quickly. He always followed through and did so cheerfully and reliably. He is a HUGE asset to that location and to the Avis brand. I will be back. read more

The absolute best location for Avis. Super convenient spot and customer service is above and beyond from Joe. About the only time I have gotten the exact car I reserved from Avis, and could not be happier with this particular pickup spot. The garage is around the corner, but they bring the car to you extremely quickly, and they work hard. Highly recommend this location as a longtime Avis renter. read more

This place is slow, run down and dated. They do not have an after hours drop box for your car and they don't open until 9am on Sunday. We arrived at 9am and no one showed up until about 9:10am. Very frustrating. read more

I rented a car for one day to la ex . They where suppose to charge me $105 including tax and I got my credit card testament today and I was charged $210.99 . I called them and they told me since I was suppose to pick up the car at one and Instead I pick it up in the afternoon the fee was changed. They simply was ripped off . The only reason I even gave one star is I left with a car...not the one I rented and pre paid for but at least a car. I prepaid with points and money and had to pay AGAIN when I came to pick up the car because they couldn't find my reservation! I called customer service who also couldn't find it but somehow they figured out a way to charge my credit card twice and take the points out of my account! We have a business account with Avis also and after this fiasco we'll be taking our business elsewhere! We still haven't resolved this a week after the rental! DONT TRUST AVIS! Joe told me to call customer service then left for the night! I then had to wait for Evan to finish with his customer to help me. Disgusted! read more

Not much point in making a reservation for a car with a GPS , if when you turn up the staff nonchalantly shrug their shoulders and say "we don't have a GPS right now". Not much use to me when I have many, many places to go and don't know one side of California from the other. Reminded me of the Seinfeld sketch. Not cheap, we got a corporate rate as this was a work visit and seems they know it because the cost was astronomical. Next time, if I am paying, I am sure I can get it ALOT cheaper and I won't bother asking for a GPS. I will use the one I had to buy for $400 because Avis La Jolla know how to take a reservation but don't know how to KEEP a reservation, which after all, is the most important part. read more

Great Sevice at this Avis Location. Rented A BMW 5 serious for the weekend they were very helpful.

Made a reservation that got confirmed, when I wanted to come and pick up the car, was told that they don't have my car type and offered another car - same price but worse gas mileage. I went ahead with the rental, but I won't be back after this. read more

I rent cars from avis la jolla anytime I go to Vegas. The people at this location are sincere and value my business. I rented the camaro SS coupe last time and flew up the 15. The car was clean and gas was full. The dude set up the Bluetooth for me too. Thanks Philip! Thanks avis la jolla! read more

We had booked a car here months in advance for pick up on Memorial Day only to arrive at 12:30PM to a closed office. Called the number on the door which said they were out to do a drop off/pick up to no avail - no answer, no voicemail. Upon calling the central Avis number, we discovered that this office closed early due to it being Memorial Day. Not only did they give us NO notice of the early closure, but they could not give us the same reservation at the same cost at the San Diego Airport - the closest nearby location. Instead, we'd be charged 33% more than what we originally paid for AND we'd have to haul our a**es over there (a good 30 min and $25 cab ride). We asked the Avis phone rep repeatedly if there was a manager we could speak to, as we were in disbelief that we could be charged more and asked to pay to travel to another location due to something that was Avis's fault. But no, there was no one else who could override this inane situation. So instead, we're stuck paying more and lost a half day of our vacation time due to Avis's lack of transparency, lack of communication and sheer laziness. Do yourself a favor- go somewhere else- somewhere that will actually be staffed when they say they will be staffed and that will actually help you when they screw up. read more

I am a frequent Avis renter and use this location to pick up and drop off cars occasionally. Avis, as a company, has always been fine and treated me well. This location, however, is poorly managed and has poor customer service. I returned a car with some dog hair on the back seat. They charged me $120 because they do not own a vacuum cleaner and had to take the car to the car wash and have it detailed. The customer service rep there was not accommodating, border-line rude. I recommend renting and dropping off at the airport where you can get get proper customer service and where they have the facilities to do basic cleaning of returned cars. Beware if you rent or return from this location. read more

Bad start to getting a rental for 2 weeks while staying here in LaJolla. Called yesterday, no return call. Called this morning, no return call. Booked online late last night, walked 2 miles to Avis and waited 15 minutes for employee to take care of 2 customers in front of us. I will update review as we go. Hopefully things get better in the days ahead, although we still are not in our rental car!!! OK - 1 hour later and I'm in our rental driving off and added a star. So far things improving. Hopefully another star by the end of the day! read more

We are visiting from out of town and I rented a car from here to take the kids to the zoo. I left my hotel at 8:15am, arrived at Avis at 8:20am, was back at my hotel at 8:35am. The whole process from start to finish was the best I've experienced, including receiving a very warm greeting when returning the car. I've rented cars for many years and this has been the best, by far. read more

My mother rented two cars here in the last month. Both times she chose to upgrade her car when she got to the location. Apparently the person working there was under training, or at least that was the excuse, but I guess this person forgot to remove her name from the original car rentals. Her card was charged both for the original rented car and the upgrade, BOTH times. Took a ton of phone calls and persuasion to get her money back. Make sure to check your credit card statements! So unprofessional. read more

The previous comments still apply but I do appreciate how easy going they are. Their cars are great too!

Wow! Joe was an incredibly hard worker! He got back from dropping a customer off with a line of costumers and he was doing everything he could to work as fast and as hard as he could taking care of two customers at once really doing a great job! Impressed by his good customer service, knowledge, and speedy work! Everyone needs a Joe working for them!!!! read more

Great service and professional. I booked an economy car and the agent there Ziad gave me a free upgrade to an suv ... exceptional

A most horrible experience. We reserved an SUV weeks in advance of our trip. We also added 3 toddler seats for our 4 year old triplets. When we arrived the car was not ready and they couldn't find any toddler seats. We had to wait almost 2 hours while they figured out what to do. All that time our toddlers were tired, hungry and hard to keep under control. It was a total disaster. This is the 2nd time we have had a bad experience with Avis. Conclusion: rent your car from another company. read more

Great experience. In and out very quickly, no hassle, super efficient. Very friendly and helpful staff, highly recommended!

I went here to get my rental car after dropping my mercedes off at the local repair. I was there early and it opened up a little after 8am which was the posted time. I had to wait for some drivers that worked there or something to get out first. When I got to the front I was welcomed by a nice person who got me out of there quickly. I would recommend this place. I don't know the rates if they are cheap or not, but it was fine for me since I wasn't paying anyways. read more

Do not rent from these scammers! They rented me a dirty car for 24 hours, so I didn't really care. Drive it an hour north to visit friend and hour south to return it. When I got my credit card statement, there was an additional $54 cleaning fee for excessive dog hair. I didn't even have a dog with me! Even the national Avis customer care wouldn't do a thing. Horrible service and got scammed! read more

I needed a rental car on Sunday Nov. 28 and called this location approximately five minutes before closing. Phillip helped me and stayed approximately 30 minutes beyond closing to help me. He was professional and courteous and the experience was great. If more people ran a business this way and provided this type of customer service they would have more business. Thanks Phillip! read more

Worst. Made a reservation that got confirmed, when I wanted to come and pick up the car, was told that they don't have my car type and offered another car for more money. Highly recommendable. I own a limo company and whenever we have high demand they are able to accommodate us and provide a black/black SUV at an excellent rate.
