But instead of refunding my account, Avis CHARGED me: $3,408.90 and when I called to discuss their mistake was told to email my original e-receipt because the only one they had on record was the incorrect $3,408.90. When I tried to escalate this to a supervisor, the customer service rep. kept me on hold for over15 minutes, so I hung up. The reason I signed up for Avis and became a preferred member was because of their customer service. Today, that service is long gone, and they are not at the top of the list. I would look at renting from Hertz - as they are much more professional and have outstanding customer service.

Anywho- I had booked a car with Budget and tried to get my vehicle but the young man at the counter was so rude to me, inconsiderate and not helpful at all. Turns out there are some new rules at Budget that hinder a car rental unless you have a credit card. The young man wasn't even going to tell me that Alamo could help me so I would've been stranded in a strange place, all alone- what a butthead! Thankfully I walked down the line and saw sweet Barb who greeted me with a smile and promptly helped me and gave me a free upgrade to an SUV since the weather up north was showing snow. Barb helped me to start my journey off on the right foot and she made me feel cared for, safe and like she actually wanted to make sure her customer was treated with respect. So I had to await their opening, which wasn't gonna be for several more hours. I had to drive to MSP to catch a flight. So I proceeded to DLH to explain and see options. They were a bunch of help. They were able to conduct the mod' at no additional charge. That made this possible. Surprising to me that the dropoff location was able to do what the main personnel couldn't. After getting the vehicle and having the person at the check out gate not be able to pull up the reservation, I went back to the counter and spoke with Tyler. I explained to him that I had been positive that I'd reserved a vehicle but could not find the reservation email so asked what he could do to help me/ my family out with a van for a few days. I made a reservation for a 12 foot truck…read moreon 8/29/2017 for a rental on 8/30/2017 and, stupidly I'll admit, gave them my credit card information for the reservation. On their website it states that the reservation is not a contract and that I wouldn't be charged until I got the truck. I then realized that I wouldn't need such a large truck and since Budget doesn't offer vans or pickups I decided to go through a different company. I canceled my reservation ahead of time and was sent an email confirming my cancellation. Today I was charged $50 for canceling within 48 hours of when I was supposed to pick up the truck. Mind you, I made the reservation less than 24 hours from when I was planning to pick it up, and was given absolutely NO indication that I would be charged a cancellation fee except for one buried in the terms and conditions. I of course called customer service and spoke to 3 different people, the first HUNG UP on me when I asked for a refund, and when I finally got ahold of a supervisor, he said that there was nothing he could do because I "canceled to use another company." On the reservation page when it asks for a credit card it gives absolutely no warning that you may be charged even if you cancel, and even gives an assurance that "the reservation is not a contract." My question to you, Budget Car Rental, is how uncompetitive do you as a company have to be when you charge $50 to anyone who decides to rent from a competitor? This business practice is obscene and unethical, and treating your customers like this is an unsustainable business model. I also believe that in most states, especially Minnesota, it is illegal to mislead consumers in this manner. I hope that Budget will do the honest and ethical thing and make this right, because as a broke college student about to start school, I can't afford to be stolen from and I will make it my lifes mission to spread the word about how bad Budget Car Rental is.
