Do not use the Avis office at Doubletree Hotel Ann Arbor North! When we picked up our car, it had not been washed on the outside or cleaned on the inside. The windshield was so dirty, it affected the visibility, and there was still the trash from the previous driver in it, including used tooth floss! The car was on empty, even though they expected me to return it with a full tank. I had to go back into the office to get them to address these issues which ended up making me late to an appointment I had. We were taking the car across the country the next day so we had the car at home overnight. When we got home the low air pressure warning light came on saying that one of the tires was low so we filled it before leaving on our trip. At the end of our first day, the tire was low again and by the next morning it was flat, so we had to empty the full-packed vehicle to change the tire. (I thought the Avis roadside assistance was supposed to help with that but we would've had to wait for over an hour and then they would charge us for changing the tire.) When we changed the tire we discovered a nail in the tire - hence the leaking air pressure. We drove 30 minutes to the nearest Avis office (which was in the opposite direction from where we were going) and got a different car but that whole procedure put us two hours behind schedule. They gave us two choices: both had bald tires so we chose the lesser of the two evils and felt very lucky that we made it to our destination two days later without getting another flat. I don't recommend Avis for one-way rentals because they clearly use vehicles in poor condition. read more

Went to pick up our car that had been booked for several months, to be told they did not have a car for us and that we needed to go pick one up from the Detroit airport. Completely unapologetic about it. So we drove out to DTW to be told they were completely sold out! The person at DTW Avis was very helpful and called around to get us one but this completely disrupted our vacation plans and inconvenienced us and they acted like they didn't even care. read more

Recently I reserved and paid for a rental vehicle so that I could attend a concert in Grand Rapids MI. Upon calling the store the morning of pick up I was advised that they did not have a vehicle for me and that my reservation had to be canceled! I called the 800 # and they advised that I could change my pick up to a city 1 hour away from me. Mind you, this was at noon and the location closes at 1PM and in addition to that, my vehicle is currently in the shop, hence the rental, so I'd have to Uber aaand my destination is 2 hours away so I might as well just Uber there at that point!!!! I issue is more absurd than I could have ever imagined as now I am out the money I spent for the concert and the money I spent for the hotel! Up until this incident myself, my friends and colleagues have always used Avis and had good experiences and in fact I was going to rent another vehicle July 10-17 for a vacation up north but in light of this recent BS I can no longer trust Avis to not ruin my plans and only be given a "I'm sorry, I understand" on the phone. read more

DO NOT EVER RENT FROM THIS AVIS/BUDGET LOCATION!! This should actually be zero stars. I've rented a car here twice. The first time was because I didn't know any better. The second was out of complete necessity because we needed a 1 way rental and they had an option. First time: my family reserved a minivan for a vacation to Hilton Head. When we showed up, they didn't have one and said that they weren't going to. Instead, they gave me an Armada SUV. It wasn't ideal, but we made it work. I thought that the tires were overly worn but the guy assured me they were fine. At 10 pm in the mountains, the tire split and we had to wait 2 hrs for a tow truck. After getting the spare on and getting to HH (after a night in hotel), I took it to a repair shop. They said that they could. It fix the tire and that the other rear tire was unsafe for travel. I have to buy $600 of tires out of pocket and then almost get legal involved to be reimbursed. Second time: called in the morning to be sure that they would have a car for our 1 way rental of 3 hours. They said yes. When we got there, they did not have one and my wife was stuck there for an hour. We went back up the next morning and got there at 9:05 am for our rental. They open at 9. Door was locked and completely dark. They finally walked in (in sweatpants and slippers) at 9:10 am. Car was not ready and covered in snow. And they were incredibly rude. I have probably written less than 5 reviews in my lifetime. But I thought I owed it to society to warn people about the worst retail experiences I have ever had. read more

Had a great experience picking up my car from here! The guy at the desk was super helpful and nice to speak to. I was traveling home from Michigan to Los Angeles with a ton of stuff, and worried it wouldn't fit in the Sudan I had prepaid for. After he nicely pulled the car around front, I asked if it was possible to switch to a larger car. Even after he pulled the car, he said it was no problem to find me a larger one, and even walked me outside to find the car (I was having trouble looking for it). Would come here first before renting a car anywhere else in Ann Arbor! read more

I had a wonderful experience at this Avis; they had some of the few rental cars left in town. I was able to pick up a vehicle for the dates I needed it, AND was given an upgrade. Found the male (long dark beard) rep to be dismissive and lazy. My reservation was canceled and he said he couldn't rebook me. When I asked if he could call customer service, he said no because they couldn't help. I was then told to pick up a new car from the airport instead. I got a confirmation when I booked the vehicle and I signed and initialed the agreement when I picked up the vehicle which I found out later that they had changed the daily rate without telling me about the change. Noooooo.....rented us a Jeep that was dead in the parking lot. When we discovered dead Jeep it was already past closing time. I called Avis to report a dead vehicle while my partner went to try to find some help in the hotel. She did manage to find someone from the local rental office who gave us a different vehicle, but wanted to just give us a different vehicle without giving us new paperwork. What???!?? If we get pulled over certainly the police won't mind all paperwork reading we have a Jeep when we are really in a Chevy...doesn't seem suspicious. Insisted on different papers to match vehicle. Immediately called Avis national office to let them know 1. Able to find a worker/get a different vehicle 2. No longer need road side service (spoke to "Oscar" at national office) and 3. The inside of the car reeks of weed smoke. Returned vehicle a day early and Avis just added a $218 charge for road side service that I cancelled and never received. Overall...stay far away from this office (Jeep was out of gas) and do not use Avis/Budget either. read more

Last two times the "agent" at this location can't do anything! I asked to make an adjustment to rental where Avis was charging me for fuel when I returned car full. Today asked to split payment on two cards and he couldn't do that either. His excuse was that only a few locations can do that. If that's the case don't offer it on your app and when it doesn't work, don't put a message up to contact agent, because they can't do it either. Maybe after a ton of feedback this location will either change ownership, go out of business, or possibly change the way they handle their customers. read more

Highly recommend renting from Ibrahim here at the Budget-Avis rental car desk. He's always taken great care of me whenever I've needed rental cars and I can't thank him enough for all the special care and attention he's provided, as I've gone through various rental car issues. The car selection on this lot is admittedly slim, compared to a large airport location, but they've still got a decent selection, especially for an in-town rental shop. Tried them again and no improvement in customer service. When you rent a vehicle you expect it to be clean and maintenance free. Rented a car and had to return within a week because oil life was at 0%. Had to put air in tires after day one because they were all low. Response when I returned it was there was a BP station on the corner that I can get an oil change at. Customers must have to maintain their own car. I highly doubt that they meet the Avis standards on cleaning for Covid. Would recommend traveling the extra miles to Brighton location where they have the facilities to maintain what they rent. read more

Booked our rental 3 1/2 months ago. Went to pick up the minivan we reserved and when I got there they said they don't have one. I also called the day before to see if I could pick it up a day early and they said they didn't have any cars at that time. When I asked to confirm that they would have my rental at 8am the next day to pick the guy assured me it would be there, and nothing the next day. The worst part is they didn't even call me to tell me they didn't have my rental. I drove 40 minutes to pick it up to leave for our vacation and was there with nothing. read more

The absolute worst customer experience I have ever experienced in my life. I went there to switch out my car because the one I had just gotten from a location 30 minutes away had gotten a flat. The customer rep was entirely unsympathetic to the fact that I had already spent an hour waiting on road side service and he blatantly ignored the instructions he received from the service center to help me. He then informed me that no cars were available even though we both had been given instructions on what car I was available and I would receive upon arrival. On top of all of the logistical issues, the customer rep was extremely rude to me. He call me hostile no less than 5 times, rolled his eyes at me, and generally acted like I was a major inconvenience. Cannot believe he was hired to work in a customer facing position. read more

rented online with a visa debit card... got there and they asked for the card... No, wait, sorry sir we wont take debit. So, here i am SOL and they just refuse me the car!! I was left stranded and the lady at the counter basically told me to go walk off a short pier! I was so angry it took everything in my being not to make a scene. imagine if there were no cab companies in the area! I got a cab, took it to enterprise on Jackson, they liked my story of pain so much they upgraded my car for free. i drove right out of the Jacksonville Rd. Enterprise in about 3 minutes. read more

I had the best experience renting a car from this location. I've rented from airports and have had to wait and wait. Both at pick-up and drop off I was dealt with great respect and kindness. I did not experience a "hard sell" for extra insurance and add ons. I booked on line and picked up with no trouble. I will definitely use this location for future car rental needs. read more

We showed up to be told we were unable to rent with a debit card and they were overbooked so they refused to switch our reservation to the other person THERE WITH ME that had a credit card. If I could give a zero star review I would. I recently, booked packaged deal through Priceline for hotel plus car rental & had the worst customer experience with the Avis car rental located at 17330 Palmetto Pines in Houston TX!!! Torina was at the front counter "helping" me. However, the service I received was completely unacceptable; not only my card charged twice even though I did not even have the car in my possession, she extremely RUDE, her tone and demeanor came off very condescending. I have never experienced such horrible customer service before in my life. I missed a very important meeting because it took almost two hours for me to basically resolve my problem on my own! I'm super disappointed that I spent my money with this company & if I could have cancelled my car reservation without created a bigger problem at the hotel I would have. So I brought the car back. they processed it back in. Charged my card handed me the bill without ever going over it with me. It wasn't what I`m used to from other rental companies. So I checked the bill and found out that I was charged for 2 days because I returned the car late. I told the lady to give me the keys back so I can drive it the day I paid for. The answer was NO, because the car is already processed back. And did I mention the car was dirty when I picked it up? worst experience I have had ever with a rental car place. When I brought a car late to hertz they first told me that the car is late and I will be charged for the extra day. So I took the key back turned around walked out and drove the car for another day. Same with enterprise. You always know what you get charged for. To add insult to injury for whatever reason they extended my rental agreement and charged me a second hold amount. So now I have to wait r them to release over 500 dollars on my card. read more
