Great rates, good selection of cars, and friendly staff. They're not bad on trying to get you on insurance and whatnot. Only Avis location that has made me pay for an upgrade as an Avis First member. Horrible customer service!!! I needed a vehicle for one night and although several SUV's and other vehicles were shown as available online, they only had large SUV's available. They wanted $180.00 for one night. The man working, the only person there at 7:30 tonight, was incredibly rude and short with me. Someone returned a Ford truck right before me. The man who rented the truck said he paid $71.00 in L.A. for it. I asked if I could get that truck for the night. I was told it would be $200.00 for that truck. He told me to go to L.A. if I wanted to pay $71.00. That's no way to treat customers! read more

They are rude and have zero customer service. Multiple times they have been unhelpful. I booked a full size car and they gave me a compact and did not adjust the price, just stated it was "all they had left". That was a past experience. I decided to try again and boomed a car through the Avis website and pre paid. Today I go to renew my license because it was expiring today and bring in the expired and paper license. The gentleman at the counter says he cannot accept it and does not offer any form of apology or customer service. He tells me to try budget. When I ask how to get refund of the payment he says to call Priceline or budget. I booked directly through Avis. The payment will take over the weekend to process. Now am I not only out the price I paid but also have no rental car. I understand policies but the 3 gentlemen at the counter offer zero service and are rude. Never again will I be returning to Avis. I rent a car monthly and will go to enterprise or budget next time. read more

Rented an Avis BMW SUV in San Francisco for trip to Pebble Beach. Worst Avis car ever. Dirty with multiple dents and scratches. When I started the engine, received a warning of low tire pressure (17 lbs). By this time rental office was closed. Pumped up the tire and carefully monitored as we drove to Pebble. No problem. Next morning tire was low again. Zero stars for Avis at this point. Called Avis roadside assistance. They were helpful and sent us to Monterey airport to exchange cars. This was a 5 star experience. Gavin assisted us and could not have been more helpful. Even helped move our stuff to the new car. I am a long term Avis customer and it is people like Gavin who keep me coming back. If I could give a "no stars" I would. During the holidays when I was stranded by a car problem in the general area, I had the misfortune to make a reservation directly with this location. I called in the morning and was told they had cars available, quoted me a price, explained how the drop off fee is charged etc etc. I asked about a confirmation number and was told just to come in and they would be open until 8. He took my name and phone number. The young man (perhaps Mike or Mark - as the afternoon shift person said) was very nice and SEEMED competent. I went to great trouble to secure a ride to the Monterey airport inconveniencing my family. A few hours later (still thinking it odd that I was not given a confirmation number or an email, I called and talked to the afternoon person (who also claimed to be the manager). He said there was no reservation for me in the computer, that the morning shift person had not said anything about it, there were probably no cars available but he would check the internet. (Now how could he not know if there were cars at his location?) Of course the internet said there were no cars left. He did not try to help in any way - basically you are out of luck - too bad for you I could not care less about the behavior of my staff. (If he really was the manager) So it appeared I was pranked (as the kids say) by the person who made the fake reservation. I'm sure he was quite amused. How many others get this same treatment. Avis is certainly off my list of car rental companies. read more

I usually make my rental car reservations with Budget since in the past I have always experienced outstanding customer service when dealing with them. In this instance I arrive to pick up the car only to see that Budget was closed and there was a sign displayed asking customers to go to Avis. I walk over to Avis and ask about my reservation. Before we even begin the rental car rep. asks if I would like to use their insurance. I said no since I normally use my own personal full coverage insurance. He convinces me to use theirs since according to him it would overall make the rental cost cheaper so I agreed. He goes on to explain that their rental policy is to charge the full cost of the rental in advance which is not accurate. All rental car companies just authorize the card to see if it works then they charge the applicable amount when you return. He did not explain this correctly so we stood there and argued for 5-10 minutes. Finally I get the car and it's not even filled up with gas. I made a note of this and let them know when I returned from my vacation. Three weeks later when I return the same representative (Gavin) is there and asks for the mileage. I drove cross country and told him the mileage and he looks at me as though I'm lying. I told him where I drove to and and hesitantly typed in the mileage. He finally prints my receipt and I leave. From the beginning of this transaction to the end this person was very rude and did not even have the decency to ask how I was doing or how my trip went. Do yourselves a favor and go to another rental car company. I personally will never use a rental car company from Monterey Airport ever again. I would rather go to Enterprise off terminal or drive to another city. Oh and did I mention that they charged me for gas when I returned the vehicle even though it wasn't full when I received it? I called them the following day regarding this and they refused to remove the charge. I can assure you that I will never rent form Avis again. The people at this location are extremely rude and they deceive their customers! I made a reservation with Budget, not Avis! read more

Am giving the Avis Car Rental at Monterey Peninsula Airport at two star rating because even though when checking in the genleman was very very nice and accommodating, my experience checking out and with their "Manager" was horrible! Rude, belligerent - obviously stressed because the Concours was in town. I called later to inquire about some extra charges on my bill and he told me to call the 800 number and hung up on me. Shame on you Avis! This person should be fired for unacceptable behavior and no customer service! He definitely should not be in a management position because if he is treating customers this way, I imagine his leadership skills with his team are the same. Will NOT be using Avis again. read more

Definately the worst customer service I've ever encountered! I went in for a one day rental, the rep. provided me with the invoice and keys and asked that I sign the bottom and initial in the "circles" never reviewed the invoice or gave me any opportunites to know what I was even renting or rates. I pointed out to him that he had over charged me. He talked over me and said "NO you came in earlier then the rental time on the reservation so it charged you for two days". Never made eye contact or acknowledged that there may have been an error. When I finally pointed out to Mike, the Avis rep, that he needed to work on his customer service after my horrible 10 minute experience he shrugged his sholders. I then asked for his name and he said Mike and spelled it out for me??? I then asked for his supervisor he mummbled something and pointed to business cards. I asked again and he said "any of them...[mumble mumble]". Definately a teaching moment as my 16 year old son wittnessed the whole occurance. Buyer beware!! read more
