We paid $90+ for a Lyft to get us there, and then saw that we missed our pickup time and they were closed for the day. I called the number on the door and Steven picked up. It was our first day of our honeymoon and my wife was in tears, our hotel was on the complete other side of the island (an hour and a half drive), so we needed a car. Steven to the rescue! He came from home to the office, even though they had already been closed for over an hour, and did our rental for us. We reserved a 2025 blue jeep with one touch sky roof. Spendy, but we counted it as a way to fully enjoy the lush landscape around us. The one touch sky roof feature was absolutely fantastic. We could easily switch between buttoned up and fully open top as we ventured out between rain showers. I highly recommend this car rental option for being able to rent the exact vehicle you want, without having to guess your luck with the phrase "or similar". Cons: Being a unique car rental company, without long lines or disappointments to start your vacation, I will say it took a fair amount of trust to rely on the good word of the company that things would go as promised. There is zero in person contact at pick up or drop off. You pick up and drop off in a deserted parking lot away from the airport, closer to the cruise ships, using a lockbox. The uber ride airport to lot and reversed at the drop off was less than $40 total. We had one person get the car and pick up the others and all luggage. It was not a far distance, but not walkable. Lucky for us the rental was exactly as hoped for and we would repeat the experience if we are lucky enough to visit Kauai in the future. They wanted proof of insurance which the standard car rental companies never ask me for. I submitted it and didn't hear back. They wanted a $150 deposit that most other car rental agencies never ask for. It was like pulling teeth to actually get the reservation put together. After submitting my insurance policy I literally heard nothing back. I was going to send another reminder "hey, I want to give you business!" email but at that point I was so downtrodden by the entire experience I just went with Alamo. Didn't regret it one bit. The pricing was maybe $100 more for a week's long rental but it was smooth, seamless, and efficient. No long lines since they had my data on file and I just went to the parking lot to pick my car. Hoping these guys create a smoother onboarding process. Way too many headaches and hoops to jump through to save a few bucks.

Wiper blades were old and left big streaks when it rained. Wiper fluid was out, so my visibility was poor and I didn't feel comfortable driving it at night, the headlights were really dim. Driving around on an island where it rains often, I really think having functional wiper blades is a low bar to clear. The sliding doors were really difficult to open, very sticky and our kids struggled to open them themselves. The locking mechanisms were weird and no buttons on the key fob worked. My only criticism was that the car was definitely not cleaned well enough for my liking. I suppose that's do to turnover... but that will be taken to account. Return of the vehicle was smooth. After I returned the car, the staff cleared it during the walk-around. No issues. No mention of damage. Then I disputed the insurance charge and got it refunded. Two days later, I receive an email claiming there's damage to the vehicle. I called to discuss it. The damage department won't speak to customers--apparently that's their policy. When I questioned how suspicious that sounded, the rep laughed and hung up on me. Called back and got a different rep who said the first one left no notes. Now I'm fighting with this company over damage I didn't cause, with no way to actually resolve it. Stay away from this company. Look on Google and see what people say about sixt. It's disgusting.
