See that tiny scratch? It caused Sixt to lose a longtime and loyal customer. Well, I am not-so-happy to join the other reviewers here who have had similar experiences with misleading damage claims. Sixt leaves the consumer to self-walk the car and report any damage before leaving the lot which I did - and was advised by the desk clerk to report any dings/dents/scratches larger than a golf ball. I walked the car before leaving, saw no visible damage (the car was NOT clean, having recently rained so the lower portion of the car white car was muddy and dirty from splashes created from the rain) - however, when I returned the car after having it parked on our resort property for 8-days and being the only driver, the clerk at the return drive found a small scratch in the plastic bumper at the left-front of the vehicle. She told me not to worry about it at all..........only to receive a demand for $1800 for payment to repair it 3 weeks later. I have been a LONGTIME and LOYAL Sixt Client for over a decade....renting exclusively from them for each of my annual Kauai vacations and using them abroad in other cities I travel to as well. NO MORE. ***Sixt, you have lost a loyal customer for the misleading assurances from your clerk at the return driveway, for your lack of consumer-focused care in placing the burden on your CUSTOMER to self-assess any damage (let alone on cars that are masked in dirt to hide the damage in question), and for the complete inability to reach a human being to discuss this at your site location or via your 800 number!*** This egregious behavior will results in thousands of dollars of lost revenue from me personally, and I will be certain to share my experience with my friends, family, clients, or anyone I hear who may be interested in renting from you in the future to safeguard them from making the same mistake I did. I will also be addressing my grievances with the Hawai'ian and California Attorneys General Offices, the Offices of Consumer Protection, the Better Business Bureau,, the Federal Trade Commission.

Jeep Compass. Damage present at pick up that I was accused of causing a day after I returned the rental.

Crooks! Crooks! Crooks! Just like many people on yelp, Sixt accused me of new damage (it was present at pick up) to my rental after I returned it. The car was a silver Jeep Compass with damage to the back passenger side. The damage was covered by paint. When I returned the car, the person who checked my car pointed out the damage which I showed pictures to prove it was present at pick up. She was agreeable that the damage was present at pick up. A day later, Sixt emailed stating new damage was found on the car which was the same damage I was questioned. The damage was present at pick up but even if it wasn't, you can't blame me for damages AFTER I returned the car. Once it's out of my hands, anything that happens to it is not my responsibility. Sixt doesn't have that many cars on their lot. The same employees check in the cars everyday so I'm sure they know about all the damages on their cars. They just play dumb just in case they get someone careless or new to renting who didn't take pictures and videos of their rental before driving off. It was my first time and will be my only time renting from these crooks.

I had heard the nightmares about the big box car rentals from friends. Pineapple Express is a saving grace, to say the least. The whole experience was phenomenal. They picked us up within 3 minutes of grabbing our checked luggage. We were in our rental SUV after a very short ride to their lot & a couple of signatures, instructions, and snapping some photos. We always take a short video or take pictures for our own protection when renting, I thought it was great for both parties that Pineapple Express makes this a part of the simple process for the benefit of both parties. The vehicle was clean and comfortable. The beach umbrella & cooler backpack were much appreciated! The yummy pineapple & towels were a great surprise. You sign a waiver & agree not to go off roading or use dirt roads for beach access. I was a bit nervous about accidently ending up on a dirt road (I'm a very cautious person by nature) but using Google maps & satellite view, I was always able to find paved areas to park. In one case, we just hiked in a little further and that's always a bonus in paradise to me :) Their communication is so good, I'm sure if you have a question about a specific area before you head there - they can guide you on whether or not it's ok or offer an alternate plan. We had tracked in a bit of sand, so before returning the vehicle we shook out the weatherproof mats - which were so easy & handy! They were great and brought my husband back to our hotel vs. the airport as we were not quite ready to head home yet. From start to end our experience was amazing. We will always use Pineapple Express when renting a vehicle in Kauai! The whole team is fantastic. Mahalo

We reserved a 2025 blue jeep with one touch sky roof. Spendy, but we counted it as a way to fully enjoy the lush landscape around us. The one touch sky roof feature was absolutely fantastic. We could easily switch between buttoned up and fully open top as we ventured out between rain showers. I highly recommend this car rental option for being able to rent the exact vehicle you want, without having to guess your luck with the phrase "or similar". Cons: Being a unique car rental company, without long lines or disappointments to start your vacation, I will say it took a fair amount of trust to rely on the good word of the company that things would go as promised. There is zero in person contact at pick up or drop off. You pick up and drop off in a deserted parking lot away from the airport, closer to the cruise ships, using a lockbox. The uber ride airport to lot and reversed at the drop off was less than $40 total. We had one person get the car and pick up the others and all luggage. It was not a far distance, but not walkable. Lucky for us the rental was exactly as hoped for and we would repeat the experience if we are lucky enough to visit Kauai in the future. For those wondering why there are no recent (2025) reviews, I'll say there isn't an easy way to leave a review on their website right now.

It is one of the 4 car agencies that Costco travel uses, and like the other times we used them, it turned out just fine. Budget started out in 1958, and became part of the Avis Budget Group in 2002. It has over 1,300 locations in the U.S., with quite a few outside of airports (where the cost can be lower). This location in Lihue is part of the airport complex, within walking distance of the airport curb, but also providing frequent shuttle service. I booked a week rental (since once you pass 4 days, it is just as cheap to rent for a week) through Delta Travel this time (mainly to get matching MQDs), and didn't have to prepay. Using a Sapphire Reserve credit card meant getting primary collision/comprehensive insurance automatically. Budget does not charge for a second driver if spouse, and doesn't require their identification. Thus, I took off after deplaning, to see if I could beat the rush of people to get in line. Ended up walking to the location with luggage: wouldn't recommend it, just better to take the frequent shuttle. There were 3-4 associates working the counter, but the car rental just takes time so ended up waiting in line for a bit. My fastbreak number did not transfer through, as I later found out, so not standing in the fastbreak line was the right call. My biggest issue was that after I was done checking in, was told to wait at the curb for the car to be brought to me in 5-10 minutes. Ended up being almost 40 minutes...just wish I had been told that upfront. Got a Chevy Impala, which ended up being a good car for the week, as long as you stay on paved roads. Returning the car was similar to other busy locations: the check-in folks couldn't keep up with returns, so just told us to leave the key and go (didn't ask us any questions). I'm always hesitant about doing this (just feel better if I can get a receipt stating that I returned it on-time, and full)...but there really isn't much choice. I did get a receipt about 1 hour after the return, with the charged price being about $4 over the quoted. The shuttle driver to the terminal was pleasant and helpful, which made the last interaction with Budget being an agreeable one.

After driving and stopping at my hotel, I discovered the car was infested with cockroaches, including baby roaches and even eggs inside the vehicle. This is extremely unacceptable and unhygienic for a rental car company. I expected at least a basic level of cleanliness and safety. I immediately felt uncomfortable using the vehicle. I will be going back to the location to request a replacement car and I strongly recommend management improves their cleaning and inspection process before giving cars to customers.

Because of the wait they gave us a discount without even asking. Because it was thru Costco, they had to mail us a check. Gili, the manager, was fantastic about making sure the check was processed and put through. Upon arrival, I accessed the complimentary airport shuttle to Alamo and then proceeded to the check-in counter. To reduce wait time, I selected the Accelerated Check-In option during my initial booking and provided my information in advance. Because of this, I was able to go straight to the Alamo vehicle lot to pick up the white Jeep Wrangler. I would also like to note the high level of hospitality and friendliness from all of the staff members, from check-in to the exit booth. I even had the opportunity to interact with the manager, Tobias. I had a question regarding adjusting the steering wheel, and he was extremely pleasant and helpful. Overall, I had a positive experience. Alamo offers competitive rental prices, and I highly recommend this location for any vehicle rental needs.
