The ease of getting the vehicle as well as returning it was great. The car was not as clean as it should have been. The lady at the counter seemed nice enough but was preoccupied and not focusing enough on me. This led to me being charged $86.97 for a loss damage waiver when I specifically remember declining it because my personal car insurance covers rentals. I signed the bill thinking I was signing it to decline the coverage. It turns out that this was not the case and I was charged for something I specifically declined when asked if I wanted it. When I called customer service I was told there was nothing they could do about it because I signed the receipt. I will not be returning to Avis nor will I be recommending them to anybody. read more

First of all this is the ONLY major avis rental car airport location.....that tells you what car you are getting and location I'm email TWICE and you get there AND THERE ARE NO KEYS!!!. I guess what annoyed me more than ANYTHING is the idiot behind the counter who says it's the bosses fault....I told him not to do it.......wait it gets better....it's on the OTHER SIDE OF THE GARAGE....those were HER words.....while chuckling. Are you kidding......boo hey let me see if I can find a car closer....for your inconvenience. ....for your EXERCISE......HOW ABOUT A CUP OF WATER....SOMETHING!!!!!.....I hate inept service...... read more

I rented here via Costco and didn't have any issues. They charged me the price I was quoted and everything was fine at checkout, I did have to wait about 10 minutes for my car at the parking garage so they ended up swapping a different Camry which was newer so that was okay. I'd be a little leery based on other reviews here but I didn't have any problems. read more

I am giving this rating SOLELY off of the customer service that myself and my colleague received from one specific customer service member, if I could just rate her and not AVIS as a whole I would give her ten stars. First of all her name is Lenai, I'm probably spelling that wrong - pronounce leh-nay. I hope she sees this. In a sea full of angry customers and a line that never seemed to move she kept her composure, was polite, and incredibly courteous. She was actually getting on the phone trying to figure out what all delays and issues were and single handedly was trying to help all customer who were coming back from the garage saying no one was helping them. She was making calls trying to get solutions while her colleagues were being rude to customers and yelling out of irritability. More people should be like Lenai. Outside of her wonderful service Avis FAILED on many levels there was a 2-3 hour wait in line, and another 2-3 hour wait outside for the vehicles, some people's cars were being brought up to customers in a random order that made no sense. LENAI even went outside to try to help the garage people and was running around the lot trying to find cars for people etc. LENAI is the only reason like I said before -- the ONLY reason I'm giving this place a 4 star. She needs to be promoted and given a raise because AVIS at this location would suffer without her professionalism. Thank you Lanai for being the silver lining in a other wise terrible experience. read more

Staff is working hard, but their inventory management is abysmal. They waaay overbook. I ended up waiting 2 hours to get a car for something I prebooked (along with 20-30 other people). Truly terrible service. You would be much better off to Uber into town and rent something there. I have rented Avis before, but I would not recommend this location to my worst enemy. read more

Short and sweet, or kinda..... Kia soul, not a bad little "compact" car... Cup holders were dirty and sticky... Window inside was cloudy/fuzzy with some kind of build up... Car was clean, otherwise... Counter staff were very friendly as were the drop off staff. Not great, but I wasn't paying so can't complain too much. read more

As an out-of-towner I was thoroughly impressed by the service. My agent, who was a towering 6'7, was a mixture of wit and charm. Like a concierge he listed a number of places I could check out during my brief visit. "Are you a country music fan?..In my opinion the best beach for what you're looking for is.." All this while finishing up my registration work in a timely manner. I cruised out of there in a brand new tornado red Jetta. Worked for me. Returning the car at the end of my trip was hassle free. Also the lost and found service is very attentive. I left my Belkin iPod charger/player in the car and while they were never able to recover it, they tracked my claim for a few weeks and kept me in the loop. If you are in the same situation just call the main line and someone will connect you. read more

HORRIBLE. Completely disorganized. The lady at the counter was very rude. Being Avis Preferred is a waste. Everything about this location and rental transaction has been awful. It's easier to fly into Orlando and drive to Jacksonville than it is to deal with this location. read more

This is one of my favorite places to rent a car from! Everything goes smoothly and their prices are budget friendly. The staff is awesome and very friendly. This most recent visit was a good one. We decided to rent a car with Avis for the week of our vacation mainly because my boyfriend gets a generous corporate discount with them. I cannot tell you how unpleasant the experience was. I will never rent a car from them again and after talking to the other people who were also being tortured it's obvious that their operation at Jacksonville Florida airport is a complete mess. And the icing on the cake was returning the car and finding a charge for over $200 added for insurance that we never asked for and in fact turned down when we were asked. They did take it off the bill but the entire experience waiting in line and then being sent across the street to wait endlessly for an attendant (who actually closed the kiosk and went home before 5 pm on a Sunday) was a nightmare. Add to that that the tank was only 3/4 full when we picked up the car. If you read reviews about this particular operation you will find tons of reviews accusing them of padding their invoices with unwarranted gas charges. I will say that the desk attendants, both when we were checking in and also when we returned the car, were friendly and professional. On top of all of this they refused to reimburse us for the extra gas we put in the car. read more

Just wanted to praise Avis employee Earlyne. She couldn't do enough to help us with our rental. Very friendly and helpful. Avis is fortunate to have her as an employee. read more

One star only because they don't give the option of zero. The problem started with the girl at the counter deciding she needed to run in the back with her phone to text while helping me, then when the car was valeted to me I complained it was dirty and was told I could take it in the back to have it washed instead of bringing me another car. After I left the garage and got it out in the sun I saw a long scratch down the passenger side and went to Avis social media and complained and was told take it to any Avis location and exchange it. I went to another location and was told sorry they couldn't help me. I'll never rent from Avis again. read more

My family was in FL for a wedding in December and we needed a minivan. Although the price as good - we got a Dodge rather than the Chrysler we reserved. The desk attendant didn't seem to know what she was doing honestly. We found our car in the garage but there was no attendant to inspect the vehicle with us before leaving. Once we drove out into the sun I noticed a small crack in the windshield, I pulled over and took a time stamped photo. Upon returning the vehicle I noted this to the attendant- "no problem" she said. Last week I received a letter detailing $209 in damages to be charged to my credit card. I immediately called - "no problem " Shane said...just email your photo, which I did. Never heard back from them but today my credit card was charged $209-...totally unacceptable! read more

Have to say, I booked w Avis a while ago and while flying into JAX, I checked out their yelp ratings. Fearful of horrid service I booked a last minute backup w competitor. Fortunately, once off the plane, i discovered that the competitor had a queue 20 people long so I reluctantly headed over to Avis. From counter rep to the folks in the garage, everything was perfect. Not sure if I was just lucky of they finally got their service in line. Either way, I will rent Avis next time in Jacksonville. read more

This is twice I've had a bad experience with Avis and I will never rent from them again. This last time after all paperwork completed waited over 30 minutes for the car. We were told (me and the 7 other people waiting for cars) that they were coming from the car wash. What I told was my rental a white Jeep Compass arrived with black marks all over it, but visibly wet. As we drove away and the sun heated the car up we noticed an overwhelming odor of stale cigarettes as well as stains all over the vehicle. An air freshener didn't help at all and I had family refuse to ride in it. The best part though was when I returned the car and they scanned the barcode they said "all set Megan". My name is Amanda. Turns out they gave me someone else's car and someone had mine. He assured me he would rectify the issue and I needn't worry. So 3 days after I'm home from my trip, I get a text thanking me for returning my rental car - the car that someone named Megan was now checking in. The day I returned the car I called Avis and spoke to a gentleman who I told I needed to discuss some issues with the rental I returned. I spent five minutes discussing the above issues with him when he THEN told me "I'm sorry mam customer service opens in two hours you can try again then" when he new from the beginning that was my issue. And online customer service forget about it. They take says to respond and I swear it's a robot responding because it's like I'm talking to a rock they have yet to assure me there will not be any issues, I won't get any funky charges or do anything but say we're sorry we swear our company is never like this. Previous rental I got from them was a Honda Civic covered in stains reeking of smoke. This location literally STINKS and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

I travel to Jacksonville frequently and each time rent a car. Having rented from all of the different agencies on site at the airport, Avis has far and away been the friendliest and most customer service oriented. The line is never long, the rental process no longer than five minutes, and the staff extremely friendly. On my last trip to Jacksonville, Dollar "accidentally" cancelled my reservation, and Avis helped to save the day with a well priced rental and a double upgrade. Thanks again Avis! read more

The Avis rental agency at JAX used to be run quite well, but in recent months things have gone very wrong. I have now twice had the experience that I don't get the car I have reserved and prepaid for. On the first occasion, I had to settle for a much cheaper car, but I had to fight for a month or so to get the difference (several hundred dollars) refunded. The second time I had to wait an hour in line, most of the time the counter being staffed by zero agents, to hear that my reserved car was not available. They found an acceptable substitute, though. However, they didn't accept my voucher for the prepaid rental, and charged it on my credit card. Now I have paid for the rental twice, and customer service hasn't replied to my request for a refund. read more

I wouldnt normally go with Avis. Priceline picked them for me. It was a great deal. I got a good car and good customer service. The tire got a nail in it and they had another car ready for me. Would use them again read more

Great service on my trip. Both during pick up and returning the car. Honestly, speaking it is rare nowadays to find good service. Most people I run into, while traveling the U.S. seam like most of the reviewers have mentioned...preoccupied with their own gossip. I did not have that problem. I had the joy of dealing with a very friendly service driven lady at the counter. My car was clean and had no issues. read more

I was walking around getting rates from other car rentals at jacksonville airport , and i came across Avis & had the worse costumer service. I asked the lady at the counter if the total she gave me was the finale total for the car for the weekend & she said "its only a couple dollars more" & i told her id be back because i wanted to check the rest of the rental places, & told her that i was okay with waiting in line again, so she then looked confused and ask " do you see these lines? do you really want to wait in these long lines? and not just pay the extra bucks?" I then said "ill be back cause i have time and im just getting rates" She then ask me " do you not have enough in you bank account to get it" with the worse attitude. Her asking me these questions was very unprofessional . I DON NOT recommend. read more

Worst car rental company ever! Rental ran out of oil mid roadtrip. We decided on a rental so that we wouldn't come across any car trouble but my husband had to go out of our way and service the rental car! We paid all the tolls only to be charged for them again! We are also being charged for an additional driver although its a family member and the phone rep at the time of reservation reassured me that it would be free of charge. I demanded an investigation and to retrieve the recorded phone call in which you can verify what I was told. They said they will look into it. I have not received my deposit back nor the $25 oil reimbursement. When we returned the vehicle, the representative was so rude. Do not rent from this company because you will be screwed weeks after you return it. Check your credit card statement and it will be overflowing with charges. Disgusting! read more

Sorry to tell you Avis one of the worst rental company in US. It is very deceptive company , greedy if you compare with other rental companies like enterprise. Their rate is double of other companies , second if you go online and do reservation on specific car , when you pick the car from their office will find different car not that one you reserved and paid for it. All what can say sorry, this is what we have. This is the last time I rent car from them. Real swindlers. read more

Do yourself a favor and don't rent from Avis! Their car broke down, I had to pay the tow because their roadside assistance was too slow and the officer who found me wouldn't let me stay for an hour to wait for it. Then 5 days after they finally reimbursed me (6 weeks after my return date) they magically found pet hair in my rental and sent a letter saying they were charging me $150. I don't even have a pet!!!!! And the kicker???? They charged me TWICE for this mysterious pet hair. So now I get to spend another 6 weeks trying to get $300 back. You call and some person tells you "three to five business days" about 12 times until you FINALLY get a competent person who maybe solves your issue. So now I have to wait and can do absolutely nothing. It sure is convenient that 5 days after they had to reimburse me they magically found pet hair in a car that I returned 6 weeks prior. Seriously I rented this car in FEBRUARY and I'm still dealing with these a-holes. Do yourself a favor and choose a reputable company that doesn't STEAL from you. read more

For a recent trip to Florida, we rented a car through priceline. I could not rent two carseats through Priceline, so I had to go through Alamo. One The carseat would not work in car. Alamo could not provide another carseat. I had to cancel the reservation and rent from Hertz (the only other rental facility open at 1 AM (the time of this transaction) and I am now stuck in a battle between Priceline saying they won't refund the money for the rental and Alamo saying that they will only refund the cost of the carseats. What a mess. I will not go through either Priceline or Alamo ever again. read more

WATCH OUT! [I would rank Avis a 0 if I could] Just returned from renting a car at Avis and they charged me for insurance that I specifically declined at the counter. Their rental agreement apparently puts it back into the clause and, even though the agent told me I was not being charged for insurance, I was charged for it and they refused to waive the charge. Beware. .....before Renting from Avis at Jacksonville International Airport, FL. Before leaving Boston Logan International Airport I phone Avis 5 or 6 times to let them know we had a delay with our departure. Would be arrive one hour after closing time. Never had such a hard time with Customer Service and Reservationist before in my life. Been renting vehicles for over 30yrs, Absolutely NO Customer Service. The young lady at the airport desk was very polite and understanding but was under trained and left alone at closing time. Without the correct vehicles for a half dozen customers, one being myself. She promised she would escalate my case to customer service for adjustment never happened. Instead I returned my vehicle on a friday night with 10 Avis employees walking around in the garage check in area goofing around without helping anyone. Girl in garage booth refused to help me, told me to go inside airport. Excuse me I just walked the whole length of the garage only to be told to go inside and wait in line. Yep go inside...very rude, went in side to a half dozen to dozen people waiting in line for a car. I did make a scene stating "I'm not waiting in line after witnessing 10 Avis employees doing nothing in the garage and refusing to help me here are my keys, full tank of Gas and no damage to vehicle thank you good night." Only to receive notification of charge on my credit card with a $55.00 over charge for late return. When I arrived in Jacksonville, I was told by the agent that they had no intermediate cars (what I had reserved) I was offered an SUV or a Camaro. I took the Camaro but returned to the airport the next morning to exchange the car (hated the Camaro) I was not offered what I had originally reserved but given a low end Chevy Impala. Then when I returned the vehicle I was charged an additional $85 dollars for an upgrade that I didn't want in the first place. Contacted customer service who says I had authorized the upgrade. Update: sent another e-mail to customer service, went over the whole scenario again and received a credit in the full amount. Good job! read more

Do not, I repeat do not rent a car from here. There customer service is really poor. Was sent here on orders, got hustled being told that I would be paying a total of $167, then found out later that amount actually is more like $1300 more for an upgrade. I am an Avis Preferred customer. Avis rented me a car that needed to be serviced. The check engine light was on, the spare tire, jack, and the spare tire tools were loose in the trunk. They were rattling the whole time during my drive. I tried to switch the car before leaving the airport, there were no Avis employees around. The Avis office outside by the car lot was closed. It was 10 pm, I ended up driving the car without knowing it was safe enough to drive an hour away on the highway. The car was just plain terrible. It was a piece of junk. Avoid Avis. Am so upset with this rental car place now,,,,they used to be run well, however, after this past experience I will not be renting thru them again. Waited in line for over an hour with only 3 customers were ahead of me. After I was assisted by a very nice front desk person, who kept apologizing for the wait, I received the papers to pick up my car. After going to the garage, over 20 customers were waiting in line. It was over an hour plus to get my car, ....they were short staffed and the cars were serviced quickly to get to the clients. The auto I had received was not the one that was reserved or assigned at the desk, as they gave it away to customers in front of me. My auto was run thru the wash as it was still wet, and quickly vacuumed out. There was sand in the back along with trash under the seats. I just received a letter stating that I was being charged an excessive cleaning fee-stating sand in the back. Upon calling, they gave me the excuse of an unopened box of cereal, sand, and pet hair (a previous review had mysterious fur show up too)....The sand was from previous and there was never a pet in the car. After discussing with customer service via a phone call, they stated they could only give half the money back...so very disappointed. Will not use or recommend Avis again, and from now on I will take dated photos of the interior as well as the exterior for documentation. read more

My experience with my last rental here was horrendous. When I arrived at the rental counter the agent gave me her pitch and up-sold me on a rental upgrade (from a regular mustang convertible to a "fully loaded" GT mustang convertible). I was on vacation, so I figured "why not?". We were in a hurry to get going and it wasn't until I was en route to my destination 45min from the airport that I realized that the car she gave me was not, in fact, a GT mustang. It also had not been cleaned well and the interior smelled VERY strongly of mildew. I called the number provided by the agent and left a voicemail. Never got a call back. I woke up the next day, angry, and drove 45min back to the airport to address the situation. The agent (Michelle) and manager (Jacob) were apologetic and promptly refunded the up-sell charges and provided me with a new vehicle (another regular mustang convertible) and gave me a $25 credit toward my rental. While I would have appreciated a complimentary upgrade for the inconvenience and 2 hours of time I wasted, I was happy to have been given my money back and the chance to address the situation with a manager, so I was ready to forget about the whole thing and carry on with my vacation. Unfortunately the story does not end here. I walked out to my replacement vehicle to discover that the rear windows would not roll up all the way. I went back to the manager, who apologized again and got me re-assigned to yet another vehicle. He told me it was being cleaned and would only be a few minutes. He instructed me to go to the valet pick-up area and that the car would be brought to me there. I went to the area and waited, and waited, and waited. 45 minutes later the car finally arrived. The agent at the valet are was very apologetic and repeatedly stated that it "shouldn't have taken this long". At this point I'd lost half a day of my vacation and in return was given a whopping $25 credit for all of my time and trouble. Absolutely unacceptable. Will not rent with Avis again. read more

I have rented from Avis at JAX twice. My first experience was great. I was given an unexpected upgrade, the car was immaculate, ran great, etc. However, the second experience is turning into a nightmare. I have received notification from AVIS that the car was returned in such poor condition that AVIS at JAX sent it out for detailing. The conditions cited were unknown stains on the passenger and back seats, pet hair, and excessive dirt. The picture of the dirt is sand around the cup holder. I did not travel with a pet nor a guest. Hmmm, makes one wonder how the determination of my guilt was conducted. It appears that "location", meaning AVIS at JAX, had a longer than normal wait time for the car to be re-released for rental after my usage therefore, I was the person responsible for the dirt and stains. Facts, I rented the car during a high volume period, July 2018, and paid a premium price for the car, $35/day. I accepted the car after 7pm on a Monday; the car was parked in the parking garage. Parking garages are lit for visibility, not for close inspections. I did not use the flashlight on my phone to inspect the car before leaving the garage. The car, a VW Jetta, had a funky smell to it, should have been my first indicator to stop and check the car more closely. At this point, AVIS has indicatede that it is charging ME $75 for the detailing. I AM BEING HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE IRRESPONSIBILITY OF OTHERS, WHICH INCLUDES EMPLOYEES. Customer service has been diligent in its refusal to consider the idea that the damage existed prior to my rental of the car. No resolution as of yet. read more

I've rented cars from this specific Avis roughly 4 times and recently the customer service has just been horrid. The employee was extremely rude when I arrived to pick up the car.
