For my car, I had been given a selection of a Buick or a Ford Escape. I had selected the Ford Escape. The girl working the counter said it was the better selection as it had satellite radio also. Vehicle was clean and comfortable during my visit. The return was an absolute breeze as I had an attendant verify the regulars (gas, no major dings or scrapes) and that the SUV was in good working order. Then my final copy of the invoice was printed off quickly and I was wished a good flight. Overall the rental car experience from National Halifax has improved and definitely these people have their act together.

Mind you, we paid a pretty penny for the rental. Gone are the days when you could, without any reservations, walk into a car rental company and have your pick of cars. The Covid-19 Pandemic caused lots of car rental companies to decrease their fleet size as demand plummeted, then when business picked up again, there were supply chain issues, so not enough cars. We searched high and low for a car rental so we could drive from Halifax to the South Shore to scatter the ashes of a dearly departed. Budget came through for us, although not exactly at a Budget price. We paid about $435 (all in) for a Hyundai Kona for 2 days (47.5 hours to be exact). Online reservation was user-friendly, quick and easy. I appreciated the text and email confirmations and reminders. We had no problems when we arrived the day of the rental. Counter staff were courteous and efficient. We had to do our own inspection of the car. We noticed a huge chunk missing from the passenger front fender. We flagged down a staff member and he marked it on the paper, initialled it, kept a copy and gave us a copy. Then we were on our way. The car was clean. I know they wiped it down with disinfectant wipes because some of the surfaces, like the rearview mirror were pretty streaky, lol. I'm good with that though, glad they disinfected the car. Overall, a good experience with Budget Car Rental, even if the price was more premium than budget, lol.

This is a high pressure sales tactic, and exploits people when they're exhausted from the trip. Don't fall for this. Don't rent from them. Choose a company that actually cares about their customers. Budget isn't it.

It was two in the morning and I still had a 40 min drive ahead of me. I just wanted to be done traveling!! My fault for not looking over the charges!!! When I did get the emailed reciept (had to turn in the keys afterhours so did not get a final reciept when I returned the car) I noticed that I was charged twice as much for one day than what was reserved for three days!! Also what was listed on the reciept did not make sense and I could crunch the numbers to make any sense out of it. It looked like they just pulled a base numbers out of the air to charge the taxes and fees to!! I called Dollar's 800 number to see if there was someone I could talk to who could explain why I was charged twice as much for one extra day and I got the run arround saying "they couldn't see anything that was charged other than what was on the reciept" "I will talk to someone to see if the charges could be revised". I know I was just put on hold while nothing was being done because I kept getting the same answers. I called repeatedly directly to this location try to arrange a rebooking or cancellation, no one answered, and they still aren't answering after leaving several messages.I had booked through expedia (bad decision,avoid, and prepaid for a cheaper price, 2nd bad decision). Long story short, I lost $1,300 because I couldn't reach Hertz before reservation date so they charged me and said it was nonrefundable. I just wanted to change the date but they were unreachable. But if you read the terms and conditions (which nobody does) they are not responsible for anything, even if it happens after you leave the airport. Absolutely ridiculous!! We've been back twice and used AVIS without issue since. Shame on your Hertz. I hope you choke on your corporate greed. Disgusting!! I rented a car from Thrifty Car Rental at the Halifax Airport through Alberta Motor Association for…read morea month long stay in Nova Scotia back from mid August to mid September, after the second week I received a call rom Thrifty asking if I was Ok. She told me I was reported to be in an accident In Dartmouth NS. I told her I had no idea what she was talking about. That call was followed by a call from the Halifax Regional Police. The officer told me I knew why he was calling which I replied I had no idea. I was reported to be in a accident on Highway 111 in Dartmouth NS near the MicMac Mall. At no time during my time in Nova Scotia was I in Dartmouth. The closest was when leaving the airport and headed to Truro. During the time the accident was to have happened I was 500 kilometers away in Ingonish NS fishing with my brother. I went to the local detachment of the RCMP who told me to take pictures of the vehicle a send to the HRPD which I did. It took 5 days to close the file after it was determined that someone reported a wrong tag number. In the meantime I was afraid the drive the vehicle in the event I was struck in from behind and I can only imagine what would happen then so the vehicle hardly moved during that time. Thrifty would not return phone calls to me, and refused reasonable compensation for the time it took to close the file. I decided to get out of Nova Scotia and get the vehicle back to Halifax cutting our time short. Four months later and still nothing from Thrifty despite an intervention from AMA. So, from a segment of the tourist train which seems to be battling bad press they make no effort to resolve this situation. I'm not looking for much just compensation for that time it took to close the file. It was a Thrifty vehicle despite Hertz being involved in this also. It was their vehicle with their tag so they have some responsibility to support their customer. Not calling me back when I needed their assistance was unacceptable.
