Don't rent from here. Location is severely understaffed and staff at front desk is extremely nit-picky and not friendly. Took over an hour to pick up a car when there was only 2 people in front of me. They don't have a separate line for returns either so you'll have to wait in the same line as people renting which is extremely inefficient. You are better off renting from a different place than here. read more

Okay, I gave them another chance and IT WAS A MISTAKE. I was going on a road trip so I wanted something good with the gas so I booked an economy sedan. When I get there ,all they had was a Jeep. I was annoyed but I had to go so I took it. As soon as I sit in the car, the car had an indicator saying that it was due for an oil change. I went back in and asked about it and they claim that the oil change was done recently and I do not have to worry about it. As soon as I start driving and the car had a terrible wobble on freeway. I turned back and told them that I do not feel comfortable driving long distance. They had no other car available and I had to cancel the reservation and pay $300 more at Hertz next door, and delayed my trip by 2 hours. It is cheap but dont trust them. read more

We rented a car from here to drive one-way to an airport to fly out since that would've been more economical than to take an UBER or Lyft. We have gotten good cars from here. One time we got a GRY HONDA HR-V AWD when we were supposed to get a Full-sized SUV, but that's all they had, but we were ok with that. We were charged a surcharge/fee of $5.95 for crossing a bridge in addition to the $7 bridge toll. Drop off was smooth and no other charges at the other end. The staff person was polite, it's usually just 1 person, maybe 2 people sometimes, so there maybe a wait, but usually we were the only ones picking up a car or dropping one off when we visited. Overall, we had a good experience here. read more

I was compelled to write this review after 2 great experiences at this Avis location because of Mas. Mas is the only reason to rent from this location. He makes the process easy by being courteous and helpful. After watching. I noticed he is a one man show. Our car got stuck in the shop. Then a couple months later. It happened to another car of our. Both times. Mas made it easy. read more

Avis - Come On In! - Car Rental Near Me - Elk Grove, California

Great and cheap place to rent, go to San Francisco for meetings and use them every time

Don't come here. The lady at the counter is so rude!! First off, she was never at her post at 8am when they opened. This branch deserves a better front person to represent the business. She told us that we should fill up the gas full. I thought we were all good because we only got the car one line gas and we even filled up 40$ half tank but she said we got the car in full tank. But the odometer reading of the car from the time we got it and we returned it only read 78 miles, because we only used it from sf airport to Elk Grove, she even told my husband to call customer service to complain and try her. It really ruined our day and morning. It was also hard to understand her. She called her manager like how she's really supposed to, and the manager immediately told her that we were right all along but she never apologized up until I told her too and said to try her and still raised her voice at me. It was really an exhausting, disappointed experience here at this branch. We are returning clients of Avis but I never expected to have this kind of experience here at this branch. Hopefully the management would make some adjustments and put a different person here to represent the business better. read more

We rented a car that had a nail in tire. Got a flat in middle of desert. Put on spare tire Drove to next town Barstow that had no cars to switch out. Was told by representative to go put a new tire on the rental up to $200 which we did but yet to be reimbursed. This was 3 weeks ago. DONT RENT FROM AVIS!! Worst experience ever! read more

I've been an Avis customer since 1996. I used to rent cars from the 16th street location, however I moved to Ek Grove in 2019. My car was in the shop since March 20th, and the dealer sponsored a rental from Enterprise for me. When the rental period ran out, I paid for a few additional days with Enterprise. My car repair was taking more time than expected, and Enterprise's pricing was higher than what I was used to, so I turned the car back in. I made a reservation through Avis for a premium vehicle. When I arrived to pick up my car, there was a customer in the office cursing and screaming at the staff about their rental. I didn't really pay it any attention because I've been a customer for over 20 years and I had never had a bad experience. I get my car. The clerk told me I could choose between a toyota camry or honda accord. I asked if there were any other cars i could choose from, he said no. I was in a rush so I took the car. The clerk (Mohsen) then reviewed the contract with me. Part of the contract involved the tolls. Mohsen stated that there would be a $6 upcharge per toll for the tolls, but he stated I could also pay a one time fee and get unlimited tolls. So I agreed to pay the one time fee. I asked for clarity, saying I go through the tolls every day because I commute. My wife was standing next to me and she asked for clarity that I would not have to pay $6 additional per day. I explained that I have a fast track that I could retrieve from my car that was in the shop if that was the case. He said "no, it's unlimited tolls." So I believed him. While I had the rental, I had several instances where I had the tire pressure light come on. I spent money filling the tires, I even took it to America's tire company to have it checked. Also, the cover that is right behind the rear view eventually I took the car back to Avis and the owner (Raman) took a look at it and said she didnt know what was wrong. She said I could choose another car but it would be a step down from what I had, and the car was dirty. I declined and just kept the car I had. When I brought the car back, the owner demanded I wash the car, or pay $250 fee to have her wash it. In my whole time of renting cars, I have never had to wash one. I have prided myself on bringing the car back without any major dirt beyond the normal. I didnt complain however, I took it to quick quack and in 5 minutes it was washed. When Raman was printing my receipt, she said "wow, you paid alot in toll fees", so I asked her what she meant. She showed me where they charged me for tolls, and then showed me the $6 surcharge that Avis charged me every day. I informed her that when I rented the car, I was told about the one time fee by her employee, and I was assured I would not be charged the daily surcharge. The owner laughed and said "sucks to be you". When I asked her to adjust the charges she refused, I asked her to call her employee, because based on the customer that came in right before me (that she admitted to him that Mohsen makes alot of errors) he probably made a mistake here too. I called my wife on speaker phone and told her I was charged the surcharges. My wife, without prompting, stated exactly what Mohsen told me. The owner then stated that in order to get my money back, I would need to call corporate, even though she admitted that she receives the surcharge. When I called corporate, they said the franchise has to refund the money. I could go on, but basically this franchise is horrible, and I will never rent a car from Avis again. It has been a horrible ordeal and by comparison, Enterprise just charged my card for the amount I owed for the tolls. Avis has become like the spirit airlines of car rentals. They have a low price but then find ways to screw you. I shouldve read yelp before renting.l never again. read more

Truly the best Rental Company in Elk Grove! Very helpful! Friendly! Made the experience much easier! Couldn't ask for anything more!

I would write a zero review if I could. I rented a pickup truck from this establishment. I went to the counter a few days prior to add an extra day, trying to be proactive. There was a couple who were being waited on and they walked outside. As I was talking to the woman (owner, or so she said), about wanting to add a day, the other couple walked in. We were in the middle of my process when the owner said she had to help the other customers, saying "They are my President's circle members, and they get priority". Once I mentioned I am also a PC member, she became very friendly. It was obvious she was giving me substandard care until I mentioned that. I rented the truck and it was great. Comfortable, and seemed to run well and even get decent gas mileage. However, while driving down the highway, the truck would suddenly lurch forward. The cruise setting jumped up to 95 MPH! I thought perhaps I had hit a button, but tested it four more times and it did the same thing. I tested it once more on my way back to Avis after not driving it for a day and it did the very same thing. The first couple of times, it nearly caused me to get into an accident. The road was wet and when the truck lurched forward, my tires lost traction, It was quite scary. When I returned the truck this morning, the gentleman ( I believe the owners husband), greeted me quickly and asked if I was returning a vehicle. I said I was, and he sent a worker outside with me to check the truck in. I told the worker the issue and he asked I tell the gentleman inside, I agreed as I thought it was a huge safety issue. We walked back inside and the gentleman greeted me with a smile. I said thank you and then said I needed to tell him something about the truck. Now, mind you, he reached for the keys and began printing out my receipt. He then said he had to help "These two people" before helping me. He said they were Presidents Circle members and they get priority. I told him my information would take 2 minutes and it was very important - a dangerous safety issue regarding the truck. He said, "I must help them first" and REFUSED to listen to me. If he had not taken the keys and finished checking me in, I would understand. However, he continued to point to the two gentleman - I am a woman and I felt like a lower class citizen to him. I get the cultural differences - in his country women are seen as a lower part of society, but not here Mister, we are in the U.S.A. Most importantly, there is a huge safety risk with this truck and I could have been killed. He did not care. I have rented several vehicles from here and absolutely will never rent from this place again. read more

First and LAST renting from here. Check in was alright. Check out was a pain the ass. The cruise control did not work. The middle eastern lady told me during check in there will be a charged if we get sand in the car. Well, I returned the car without sand and What did I get charged for, pet hair in the car (mind you we have no pets) and the exterior being dirty. I told her we don't have any pets and there was none in the car. She ranted will there's hair so I'm going to charge you and be happy I'm not charging you $250 and just $20. She also said i can take the keys and go clean the car myself before returning it. I'm sorry but i have rented cars many times from different locations and rental companies and have never been charged a cleaning fee before. Will not recommend this place nor be returning. read more

The manager here was ridiculous and treated us as scammers. Using corporate rate, I booked the rental through my workplace under my fiancé's name to go to SFO. He went to pick up the car, but the manager refused to give it to him and insisted that I must also be presented with my work ID. We had rented with Hertz before the same way, and he went to pick up the vehicle by himself just fine. Not sure why he would got rejected this time. Since I was at work, I was not able to go there with him, so we told her we could provide the photos of my work ID, my ID, and even our flight itinerary to prove that we were indeed traveling together to the airport, so I would definitely be in the car. She refuse to help and said people would abuse the cooperate rate if they just rent for their friends or other people, so she needs to see me in person. That's non sense! She shouldn't assume that her customers were scammers, and we have documents to prove that we were indeed the people renting and driving the vehicle. If you have such policy, you have to be clear and specific during the booking process, but it didn't specify that I had to be present at the time when we pick up; especially the reservation is under my fiancé's name. Later on, she tried to explain to my fiancé with a digital copy of the fine print, but it still didn't say the booker has to be present to show the ID if the booking was reserved under another person that's traveling together. Also, the fine print made it seems like the manager has the discretion to choose whether or not to help or reject the customers in such situation, I understood that there could be scammer, but when a customer could provide so many documents to prove their legitimacy, the manager should put customer service first and help the customers with difficult situations than to insist that she was 'right'. She could have helped us, but she chose not to! We have no other budget rental choice at that moment without corporate rate. I ended up having to call off from work and picked up the car myself!!!!! The car she gave us was with scratches and the maintenance light was on!!! This made me regretted that I did not book through Hertz this time as Hertz often gave us the brand new clean car and sometimes with free upgrade. I swear I will never ever use Avis again! The way they do business is just insensitive and didn't consider the customers' needs. I would love to share this ridiculous experience with my coworkers and friends! Do not recommend renting from here. read more

I was introduced to a SUV that was dirty on the outside, but figured what the heck, but getting inside and driving off the lot, I was struck by a most pungent smell. This means that either there's a dead rat somewhere, or the air filters were never changed! How is it a vehicle of this condition was deemed fit to rent to a customer is baffling! read more

Honestly, I'm not sure how these folks are even able to remain in business. From telling me that I didn't select an option that I clearly selected, to arguing with me about a fee they're trying to slip in the contract after the fact, just stay away from this place. First thing I'm doing Monday morning is calling Avis corporate as well as putting an inquiry in with the FTC. Enough is enough with shady folks like these. read more

Car had significant damage to the trunk. It was never taken off the cost of the rental.

Last time I rent a car here. They have all these added fees that's not on the print out itself but handwritten on the invoice like if there's a hint of smoke smell, sand, pet hair, mud, grass etc that they charge extra for cleaning. They gave me a car wind a cracked windshield. Told the employee about it and he said not to worry about it cs I have insurance. I explained to him that if the crack gets bigger then I can get a ticket for the windshield. No reply. I'll take myself to enterprise across the street next time. They have better customer service and looks more legit. This place looks like a fake Avis. read more

Avoid this location if you can . I will never rent here again . The car was dirty inside and out and had strong odor of marijuana and cigarettes. I didn't realize it till I drove away . I took the car back 30 minutes later and there was 1 other option in a lower category of car. Also the lady at the counter said they don't wash their cars because there is no water here ? Ok , then take it through a car wash for your customer ? She said they don't do that. And she said sorry and no I gotta find something else . Terrible read more

I rented a car from Sacramento airport that turned out to be an old Camry with over 42,000 miles on it with bald tires and it was dirty. After calling customer service, if you can even call them that. They said I could come here to get an available car and switch it out. I read on another website that this was a good location and I was ready to agree until I tried to make the switch. The lady in this office is thoroughly unhappy with Budget/Avis as a company. She complained that all of the managers were off, no cars were going to be shuttled to her location and here is the kicker she was upset that I was bringing her a bad car to trade for a good car. She showed me emails from some lady that said there would be no help for them during this holiday time. No accommodating customers just rent the cars out. She asked to take a look at my car we went outside and she said she would have to charge me for the rock hit on the windshield. I had not had the car for 24 hours, I picked it up from SMF in the dark before they were about to close. No one did a walk around with me at all, but I was going to have to pay! She continued to complain about the company and how they should have sold the car they gave me because of the milage. I tried to be understanding about her frustrations with corporate but I was reaching the limits of my patience. I had to take a breath and pray before allowing my emotions to control me. I told her that this is not my fault. I ordered a car and I work hard for my money. I am just there to trade the car out and be on my way. She told me that if it wasn't full then I needed to put gas in it. The Customer Service Rep told me I did not have to because of the nature of the situation. She said they put no notes in the system so I have to go get gas. I went back into the car and turned it on, the tank still said full. I came back and told her that then she said I needed to go anyway because as soon as her next customer drives off the tank will go down. I did not go get more gas, she did point out that I was paying $17 a day for insurance, I did not ask for this insurance but it was added by the airport. It covered the rock mark on the windshield which was a blessing. I would have had to pay for that even though I did not do it. Finally I got a car, a white Camry with over 30,000 miles. The interior spelled like smoke, there were paint chips all over the car and guess what? The tires were bald too! I had no choice but to take this horrible car I definitely didn't want to go back inside and get all of the complaints about this company from the woman again so I left. It was awful! Here are the reasons I would never rent from Budget/Avis in Sacramento again. Horrible cars that should be taken out of commission, bad customer service, no empathy or understanding when it comes to giving the customer what they need and what they work hard to pay for. It is the epitome of greed and I can't trust a company that doesn't care for its customers. Here is a tip to the Indian woman who owns this location on Elk Grove Blvd. Sell this franchise you are clearly unhappy with your investment and how corporate is treating your location. Start your own rental car company that provides better quality cars and good customer service. You might need to bring in someone from the outside to do the customer service because honestly when someone is renting a car all they need is a decent car, when they have to come to your location to trade the car they do not care about what is going on behind the scenes they just want someone to do what they need and send them on their way. Getting a replacement car from you was one of the most stressful experiences I have ever had with renting a car. I am glad I wasnt in town for a funeral or something traumatic because hearing all of your complaints would have broken me down. I give you 2 stars because I think you are a nice person but I also feel like you complained because trading the car for me wasn't going to make you any money. If that is true it is sad. Companies like Southwest Airlines and Amazon are successful because they put there customers before the money. By doing that first they have made record profits and are leading in revenue. Take a page from their book or go do something else no one wants to hear about your issues with the franchise, it's not professional. One more thing I noticed last night the breaks were grinding. They don't check these cars they just send them out. Not safe at all. read more

Do not rent from this facility. They have unreasonable expectations for the condition the car should come back in. If you have a hair that falls out of your head they will charge extra to clean the car or tell you you need to take it and have it washed and cleaned. They Claimed I had a pet in my car, At no point in time was there a pet in that car when I had it. There were literally a couple hairs in the car that were blond, like mine. I've never had a rental company tell me something like that. Use at your own risk! read more

We rented the Dodge Minivan for 10 days. The vehicle was not clean, but worked fine for our needs. Upon returning the vehicle, I was charged $25 for "pet hair". I don't even have a dog and there was NO animal in the car - EVER! The woman at the counter implied that I was lying and offered me 45 minutes to go clean it up. If you rent from this place, take PHOTOS!! I am furious, I'd be fine with the charge if it was true... but to tell me it was clean when we received the car is complete BS! The requirements are not even in the contract. They write it down on a pink slip after you've already paid. read more

Reserved an SUV with them at a great rate. Showed up on that day, and was told there are no SUV's available at this location nor at any Avis location in the greater Sacramento area (really?). With few other options, I was stuck with a full size vehicle instead. The full size did not have the same cargo room, so this affected what I could bring, and really affected my entire trip. The full size is also less $ value than the SUV. The regular rental price of the full size is about 40% of the normal rental price of the SUV. Basically, Avis advertised a great price, then switched me with a product of lesser value and functionality. Add to that, the car had not yet been cleaned. It wasn't completely trashed, but the windshield was speckled with bugs, the inside was dusty, and some of the previous renter's personal effects were still in the glove box. read more

Someone in a AVIS rental car rear ended me, so I gladly accepted a free rental car from them while they handled the claim and damages to my car. But after this experience I will never rent from Avis again. I called 3 days in advance and told them I needed to be picked up at a body shop (that was 3 miles away from them) at exactly 8 AM, because I had to be at work on time. That morning, at 8:04 called to make sure they were on their way. At 8:25 I called again to see where they were...apparently, the driver went to the wrong body shop!! He finally showed up at about 8:30. When my 2 year old daughter saw the driver, she flipped out. She was so scared of him...I had to force her into the car seat, and that took literally 20 minutes. She cried the whole way. I didnt think the driver knew any english, then he said "give her toy" ... HA HA.... If i gave her a toy she would probably throw it at his head! That's the only thing he said to us the entire time. He then tried to figure out how to work the radio and only came up with some really loud static with every button he pushed. After signing all the papers, and getting our rental car, my daughter calmed down and we were on our way. I was only 1 hour late for work =/ read more

This is purely for a check in rating, the process was quick but with AVIS they have a cleaning fee and I was reminded more than once especially when I put my kids car seat in the back. It's raining today and so of course I was reminded about mud being a charge. Since I picked up the car sooner (an hour earlier because That was the only opportunity for getting a ride) then I had to turn it in by that exact time the last day of the rental and not by the time I originally scheduled. I would give them 0 stars if possible. My fiancé and I made a reservation to get a rental from this location. When we arrived today they tried to give us a Toyota Corolla with tons of visible dents, scratches and dings everywhere as if it had been in an accident. To make matters worse, when my fiancé started the car the engine light and maintenance alert were both on. We immediately notified the lady who then kept insisting we take the car anyway because there were no other cars available. We refused to take the car and even told the employee that we had a really long trip ahead of us and didn't feel safe taking a car with dents and scratches and an engine light alert. She then proceeded to bring the mechanic out and said he could just "reset it" for us. She clearly didn't understand the concept of NO - NOT SAFE. She finally told us there were only SUVs left, and that she wouldn't even offer it at a discount. To conclude this horrible experience, we canceled the reservation, got our money back, and booked with enterprise. What a joke! read more

I rented a car from this company because they are a local, small business. I kept the vehicle for about a week. When I returned it, I was surprised when the owner told me I should have cleaned it better. He complained and said they don't have the time, energy, or money to clean the cars. I was taken aback because the car was clean. I've rented vehicles for years and always clean them before I return them. He was whining as though I drove through the car through mud and ate food and dropped it everywhere, which I hadn't. In fact, the car was parked for the majority of my trip. Needless to say, I don't feel they valued my business and I won't be going back. I will however, try another small business. read more
