    Got off my flight and went straight to the Avis desk. I had a reservation for a Premium car. Got to the Avis area and there was a long line and 4 employees working. The problem was, each time they got a new customer they would have to wait for car assignment from the garage area. It was a very slow process. Some customers were directed to the garage area and not having to goto a desk agent. There were no signs to which customers should go directly to the garage and who needs to wait to see an agent. After waiting in line for about 90 mins, I finally got to the desk. Gave the employee my info and he was able to find my reservation. I declined all the usual upsells and then we waited another 20+ mins for the garage to assign the car, which took even longer since I was renting 1 way from Tampa to Orlando. They didn't want to give their nicer cars to the Orlando location. Finally they assigned a vehicle and the employee says "We're gonna upgrade you". What's higher than a "Premium"? You'll be getting a Chrysler 300. That's an upgrade? Fine, at this point I just want to get on the road. Get out to the garage area and the car is beat up, missing the mirror cover, scratches all over. Looks like it was just returned and was not washed or cleaned. The only positive was it had a full tank of gas. They share the same counter space as Budget and apparently share the cars they have in stock - and they had a shorter line on that side.

    Never before, and especially as a Mother now, do I ever complain about bad service (not worth my time or energy). TERRIBLE service however, must be reported. I was traveling BY MYSELF, with a toddler, a stroller, and luggage. I'm a preferred Avis member and when I went to the counter they didn't acknowledge that, for starters. Once they processed my reservation they sent me down to the lot to get my rental car. The number on the receipt was f36 as you can see in the photo, there was no vehicle there. I went to the counter, mind you it's not a few feet, I went down 2 long aisles to get to the empty stall and back to the counter with ALL my luggage, stroller and child. When I returned to the counter and notified the employee she took my receipt and handed me a new one that said D30. I asked her if she was sure there was a car in this stall and with a condescending tone said "nope, I'm not". I grabbed the ticket and went to stall D30, NO CAR !!! I went back and at this point I'm extremely frustrated and I ask who the manager is and a different employee says with an attitude "I don't know I just got here". I said "ok, thanks, No problem, I will find out her name". She handed me keys and a 3rd receipt and I went on my way. For being a "billion dollar company" Avis sure lacks in investing in their customer service training! I won't EVER rent another car from Avis. This is absolutely ridiculous, inconsiderate, and beyond unprofessional. Tampa airport location for "Avis preferred" you are an utter disgust and unprofessional in customer service. If this is how they treat a mother traveling solo, visibly exhausted, and lugging a baby, luggage, and stroller, I'd hate to see how they treat anyone/everyone else. Actually, I did witness 3 more customers come to the counter with the SAME complaint!!! Makes perfect sense why they have 1 1/2 stars. They deserve 0 stars!

Tampa has shifted all rental cars to a separate facility that you reach by shuttle train. The ride takes about five minutes, it runs smoothly, and in the handful of times I have used it, I have never had a delay or a hiccup. It is an easy, predictable part of the arrival routine. National is simple to find, and as an Emerald Aisle member, I still get to bypass the counter and head straight to the garage. I used to be Executive, but I am regular Emerald now, which means choosing from a slightly lower tier. That was not a problem today. For this visit, I specifically wanted a minivan and had my pick of at least a dozen, walking right past a row of SUVs and sedans to get the most boring and generic one with a Florida tag. Exiting the facility and heading to downtown was just as smooth. A friendly agent checked my ID, waved me through, and I was on the road within moments. The van itself was spotless, had fewer than 2000 miles, and ran without a single issue for the entire week. Returning the car was equally straightforward. The signage is clear, the lanes are well marked, and the whole process moves quickly. I had the email with my final receipt before I even stepped back onto the train to the terminal. National at Tampa continues to be a reliable choice for me, and I expect to keep renting from them whenever I fly through TPA. [Review 44 of 2026 - 2228 in Florida - 25234 overall]

They try to up sell a lot of the add-ons - Now I get it that they probably make a commission on this, but the way the guy did it was a bit off putting. The car I rented sat for a few days because I was at a retreat. When I went to drive it again, the low tire pressure light came on. It didn't look that low, so I drove it to a nearby gas station to get air. I called roadside assistance twice. The first time I was on hold for 20 minutes. The second time no one ever picked up. I decided to chance it and drove back to the airport to get a different car, which was nerve racking because I wasn't sure if the tire would give out while. They were nice about swapping out the car and car me an upgrade. I asked for some compensation because I had to cancel all my vacation plans for my last day of my vacation and they offered not to charge me for any gas. When I dropped off the car the next day, I asked again to be sure and there was a $20 gas charge on there. I asked them to take it off. It was a different manager , and he said he did and they would email me my receipt. I never received the receipt, so I called customer service to get one, and of course when I looked on it, they had charged me $81.00 for prepaid gas. Which I didn't want in the first place. I called back and was told that I had to wait until Monday business hours to talk to billing, which is BS because when I finally got through, it was someone in the Philippines. They do that to make it difficult to get a refund. The manager never put a note in the reservation saying that he would refund me so the agent said he had to reach out to him to confirm that he said that... So what are the odds I'm gonna get this money back? Who knows. But even if I do, I can't get all this time I've wasted dealing with this back. On the car rental websites, their reviews are much higher which makes me feel like they are not real reviews. I've rented from Sixt a few times and had much better luck with them Don't bother with this company, not worth the hassle. And to never have someone pick up on the emergency roadside assistance number? What would I have done if I hadn't been able to drive the car? I'd still be sitting there!!

What the hell, Sixt? ---------------------------------------------------- Here's a recap of what used to be a much longer chronology because, to be blunt about it, this is getting ridiculous: 1. I rented a car in Tampa while visiting for my Mom's last days. I stayed in the area the whole time. 2. When I got back home, Sixt told me I owed them for tolls I had gone through in Orlando. Here's the thing: I had never been near Orlando. 3. I did the math and proved to them that (A) the mileage on the car wasn't enough to get to Orlando and back and (B) There weren't even any tolls listed *between* Tampa and Orlando. 4. They ignored my emails and continued to demand $99.65 for tolls I had never gone through. 5. I contacted AMEX who opened a fraud investigation(!). This required me to get a new AMEX number and update all my recurring charges that use it (what a pain!). But they eventually sided with me and removed the $99.65 charge. All this time, I've never been able to reach Sixt by phone to discuss this, and they've ignored my requests via email. And now they're sending a collection agency after me. Hey, everyone makes mistakes, but here's what's bothering me about this: Their responses were lazy and slapdash. They showed no interest in helping me figure this mystery out. They just kept asking for money I didn't owe them. And after 2 years, they just won't give up. I generally prefer to leave positive reviews on Yelp. I extend the benefit of the doubt and ignore small mistakes. But this isn't just a mistake; they've had many chances to fix the problem, and failed every time. From my end, it looks like malfeasance, theft and bullying.

There are no customer service either this is what has happened. - same law applied for Florida ! I picked up my rental at Routes on April 10th. While driving on the expressway on Monday afternoon, April 14th the rental had a catastrophic mechanical failure. This was on a multiple lane highway, I90. A road safety vehicle and an Illinois State Trooper assisted in moving the car as it was a hazard to me and other drivers. While with the rental vehicle and Trooper, I called Routes at 847-672-4000 and was on hold for several minutes at which time the Police officer additionally attempted at making the phone call. Neither of us had success at reaching Routes car rental for over an hour and a half. At which time I communicated with my brother who lives locally the issues I was having with the car and my safety concerns. He additionally attempted to call the rental car agency for an additional hour with no success. He decided to get in his personal car and drive the 30 minutes to the rental car agency. While he was there, he was instructed to inform me to abandon the car which he relayed to me. Two of my friends, additionally, tried to reach out to the rental car company and could not get a hold of anybody. The road safety personnel had a tow truck come for the car. At this time, I reached out to Uber to pick me up get me off the highway. Since the breakdown, I have tried multiple times to reach out to rental car company with no success. I was able to get ahold of Priceline, who the rental was booked through. Priceline was unable to reach anyone at Routes. They documented the attempted calls, including theirs, and the results of the rental. Monday evening, I emailed Routes and provided my contact information that I needed help with the car and it was urgent. I did not get a response. I even attempted to go on a chat on a Routes website, however it was for their commercial vehicles. She did state that there should be a 24/7 phone number for assistance, which I explained that no one answers the phone Tuesday morning April 15th I finally was able to reach someone, I said I had an issue with the car that needs to be resolved, she said I needed to speak to the manager I was told he was not there, I asked for the manager name I was told the name was "Shady" I asked his last name, the women said she didn't know. I asked her name she hung up. I called back, Eric picked up I asked for his last name he hung up. The car is currently in police impound with unknown mechanical issues and cannot be driven. It was removed from the highway due to the concerns the Illinois Police had for both my safety and other motorists. Both the State Police and Priceline are aware of the lack of communication or interest from Routes to make any attempt to resolve this issue or pick up the car. I phone records and emails will document the lack of communication from Routes. I have multiple photos of the scene of the breakdown and the employees that stated that they would locate the vehicle and take care of it. Illinois law (625 ILCS 5/6-305) dictates strict rental car customer care, requiring companies to provide a dedicated emergency number for roadside assistance and service inquiries. If an owner's manual is missing, personnel answering this line must have access to vehicle information.

They are scamming people left and right. When I returned the car, it was in perfect condition. Four days later, I received an email from the company they use for damage/ claims - Rockport Claims regarding the vehicle's damage. The damage claimed was damage to the windshield. The photos they provided showed specs of dirt/bird poop on the windshield that they claimed as damaged, worth replacing the windshield at a staggering $1500. This whole situation has been extremely frustrating and upsetting to say the least. I took photos of when I picked up the vehicle, and I have a video of when I returned it. And yes, there are those marks on the windshield but it is dirt, NOT DAMAGE?! After thoroughly looking at the paperwork provided by Rockport claims, the company Ace used to do the appraisal for damage seems to be a fake/fraudulent company. They also did the appraisal in Fort Lauderdale, 3 hours away from Tampa days after I returned the vehicle. The paperwork provided by the appraiser has the wrong dates, I have tried every number provided on their paperwork and spent time looking into the company, and none of the 3 phone numbers I found on my own research work. I searched the address; it does not exist. The business address is a PO Box on the paperwork, and when you look up the company used the address is actually someone's apartment. I saw from another person's review, this has happened before at this exact location for the exact thing. Unfortunately, everyone I have reached out to at the company over the past month has not been helpful and has been unresponsive. I have been practically harassed by Rockport claims for weeks over this fraudulent claim. They then proceeded to try and get additional money from my car insurance company, in addition to the coverage on my CC (which it was fully covered), which I did not give them permission to proceed with. I will be reporting Ace Rent a Car, Rockport Claims, and Coastal Appraisal South to the Better Business Bureau for fraud and scam.
