    This is a total disaster of an Avis/Budget location. I have traveled a lot, used many car rental companies, and the service here is beyond awful. Long line, rude & unprofessional staff, and they didn't have a car for me despite a reservation. They completely screwed up my travel plans. First, I waited 50 minutes in line, while it took several minutes for each customer to be assigned a car. Meanwhile, the lines (if any) were going much much faster at the Hertz, Alamo, Enterprise counters. After the long wait, it's my turn and I get treated very rudely and unprofessionally by LATHENIA. She says "next person come up." I walk up and go to hand her my DL and credit card. She says rudely "I'm not ready yet for you, I'll tell you when I'm ready." What??! No hello, just a rude tone. I then say "you called me up so that's why I was giving you my cards." She then escalates and says rudely "I have things to do before like log into the system, I don't need to take your verbal abuse." What??!! I then say, "what are you talking about? Why are treating me like this?" Then she continues to escalate and says "do you want someone else to wait on you?" I then say, "I want you to wait on me." To not bore you with the details, she continues her rudeness throughout, yet she accuses ME of 'verbal abuse' and says that she will "call the police on me." Again, what??! This woman should not be dealing with customers. A totally rude drama queen that can't take a customer not putting up with her rude crap. But wait, it gets worse. She then radios for my car. This takes several minutes. She then tells me that there are no cars and that I need to wait until a customer returns their car for my one-way rental. What??! I then ask to speak to a manager. When the manager comes out to talk to me, I start to talk about how rude LATHENIA was to me throughout, and LATHENIA comes out from the back room and pretends to be scratching her cheek while giving me the middle finger!! She did this 3 times! This is sooo unprofessional. I called her out for this and the manager said that they would be reviewing the video (camera right behind the counter). Honestly, the manager (David) was of zero help in resolving my issue, but he was at least respectful. This LATHENIA woman should not be allowed to deal with customers, and should be fired immediately for giving a customer the middle finger. In all my years, I have never experienced anything like this level of unprofessionalism. Avis/Budget should be embarrassed. Attached is a screenshot of another customer review calling out LATHENIA by name for rude behavior. Why hasn't Avis/Budget done nothing about this woman? I ended up having to take an Uber (at my expense) to O'Hare to get a car after all of this. BTW, the treatment I got from Avis at O'Hare was night and day versus Midway. Short line, short wait, pleasant service at the counter, and they honored my reservation. Do not EVER use Avis/Budget at Midway. Shame on me for not checking reviews prior to my reservation.

    Easy booking for last-minute travel from Chicago to Cincinnati. Drove directly to the Avis at CVG where the car was accepted on Christmas Eve without issues. No snags or drama or long lines. Think it's helpful to mention a good experience since (understandably) sometimes the bad reviews have the bias of over-reporting.

    Get ready to wait.

    Cars are never ready and assigned. Even if you are Preferred or Presidents Club, you'll be waiting in line for the one agent in the booth. I'm waiting in line now and the booth agent has been missing for ten minutes.

    We've been in line for 20 mins. People in front of us have been in line much longer. Employees do one reservation and then leave the counter? Ridiculous. Customers were taking about how slow the line was and one employee was quite rude instead of apologizing or trying to understand.

I assumed this was just related to the cleaning and was exhausted after a long day, so took the car into the city where I was staying. Didn't end up driving at the next day, but the day after I got in and noticed a severe cigarette sent and a cigarette burn on the driver side seat. In addition, the cigarette or small storage area in the console was sticky and dirty, and the cover for the back storage area was obviously from a different vehicle, did not fit, and took up a large portion of the rearview mirror space. None of this had been noted prior to renting the Car. I stopped at three Hertz locations and was told they did not have any cars that I could trade out for. RJ with reservations told me these locations would have cars, but said he couldn't reserve any for me and couldn't make any promises. Elijah at the State Street Chicago location walked away from me, after telling me there were no cars and did not offer any type of support or even a phone number to call for assistance. Larry at Midway location (again, where I was told cars were available on the phone) told me there was nothing for me and would hardly even make eye contact. He also mentioned that it was Saturday so I shouldn't really expect anything and that there wasn't really any customer service or manager available. When I asked about options, he just handed me the customer service booklet and again ignored any further questions that I had. Overall, I spent half a day trying to figure this out and still got nowhere. I spent over an hour on hold with no one even picking up the phone just calling and dialing multiple locations without getting any assistance. Extremely disappointed with the customer service experience even with gold status!

I was in line for over an hour to be seen. I rented an intermediate SUV, but they only had large pickup trucks. I took the offer. The check- in staff was professional and friendly given the circumstances. They provided a fuel credit due to the inconvenience. The pickup was too big for my needs. Difficult to maneuver. Many of the features that should be available on a large vehicle were not equipped or programmed, especially the parking technology. My car lacked wrap- around cameras to assist parking, proximity warnings when close to objects, or back up warnings. The back- up camera was imprecise. I had no functional trunk. My drop-off experience was poor. It was Easy to drop off. One agent was friendly and helpful. The other public- facing agents were uncaring or rude. My agent barely spoke to me and didn't ask basic questions about returning the vehicle. Offered no assistance. I also had bad experience with staff in preferred member area. Five minutes after returning car, I realized that I had missing items. The friendly return agent directed me to the desk agent. The desk agent was openly dismissive and rude to me . Suggested that that my reason for checking the car was not important. She was dismissive and didn't want to offer help. This is not an exaggeration. This experience makes me less likely to rent a vehicle from this vendor at that location.

However, about two weeks later, I received a call saying the taillight was broken and that I would be charged $325 This was very surprising to me, especially because I purchased insurance coverage through the Hertz website at the time of the rental. I was transferred several times between representatives, and I felt pressured to pay for something that I do not believe I'm responsible for. To be honest, I'm genuinely upset about this situation. When I got there I realized that I did not have my driver's license on my person. I showed them my physical government ID with my name and address, the exchange text message which identified my CURRENT VEHICLE and my credit card that I booked the rental with and they said NO. Then they told me that I could not leave with the vehicle that I came in with and that was a problem to me. Clearly I had ID with my address, a driver's license in the system, a rental agreement with my name and the vehicle that I came with ...A text message confirming the vehicle that I came in with was rented to ME and these people took the car leaving me stranded in an city i was not familiar with meanwhile my hotel was 55 miles away in Portage IN!!!!! NO ONE CARED OR SHOWED ANY CONCERN. I had to take an uber for $107.00 to get my license, $38 in an uber for them to tell me the could not give me another car because the avis that took my car didn't return it!!!! So now I had to spend another $132 in an Uber to go from Merrilleville Indiana all the way back to Chicago O'Hare International Airport at the request of Avis road side just for Avis to tell me that I was at the wrong airport and I need to go 35 minutes away BACK TO AVIS AT MIDWAY airport. Luckily there was an employee there with common sense. He called Midway Avis and confirmed that the car was returned and I was able to leave with a car. I will never use Avis again. This whole ordeal cost me $277.00 and 7 hours of my time. DISGUSTED!!!!

The guy at the counter had no empathy, sense of urgency or fux to give. It's one of those moments where you just exercise some patience because you still need a car. After waiting an hour, I was asked if a Mustang would be ok. At this point, I really want to break up with them so I tell them guy yes. Get to the adjacent garage and began to take note of the existing damage on the car. Nothing alarming but nothing I wanted attributed to me. The car hadn't been cleaned out, off and the windshield was really cloudy. No big deal but the windshield washing fluid was empty. So back inside I go to talk to Mr. Unbothered. The representative who tracks incoming cars, took it and washed it, filled the washer fluid and tried to make me feel a little better about the situation. When I was waiting, I asked the agent how I'd be compensated for my inconvenience. He shrugged his shoulders and said the car I was going to be put in was an upgrade. I'm not a Mustang person so this rang hollow. I then insisted that he adjust the rental time to only reflect the time I had the car. He agreed and went back to doing next to nothing. I had no issues returning the vehicle. As a rule, I take a picture of the fuel and miles to be able to confirm that I did refuel it and no surprise charges occur. Keep in mind when you are arriving or returning to allow time to take the shuttle back to the terminal. Customer service is minimal here. No one answers the phone when you call and the in person experience leave something to be desired. I do plan to use other car rental agencies in the future as I was not happy with the experience at this location.
