Carlos is absolutely unprofessional, rude and "half assed" my project. I paid him to clear DG, level the yard, install weed barrier and a couple of borders. Halfway through the project, I noticed that he failed to add borders around a tree and to separate mine and my neighbors yard as agreed upon. When I mentioned it, he simply stated, " I didn't bring a border"... I waited for him to follow up with, "I will go get one now" but he didn't. He proceeded to go back-and-forth with me about how a border was not a part of the quote. He explained that I would have to pay more. I then presented my copy of the invoice, which clearly showed the border listed. Frustrated, He agrees to go purchase the materials. By then, I was super weirded out by the fact that he not only lied but that he would risk a good impression on a new customer for a $20 piece of material. When he gets back, he installed a crooked border and then refuses to fix it. He came up with some excuse about not being able to use the two dump vouchers that I gave him and proceeds to state that he will not come back and fix what he promised to fix. This dude is a joke! We paid in full once the job was complete. The seam was noticeable and he said he would Come back if it didn't fade, even wrote it on our invoice. We contacted him letting him know it didn't fade and it looked to be 2 different colors of turf, he said he was out of town and to call back next week. Calls me 15 minutes after the appointment to tell Me he's running an hour late so we rescheduled for the following day. He doesn't show up the following day nor does he let Me know. Then proceeds to block me on Facebook and blames me saying that I canceled. Tells me he's busy and that I need to go elsewhere and pay more. I'd rather pay more for honest and reliable service. The quote to landscape our backyard included clean up and prepping dirt for sod, fix or repair and adjust existing sprinkler system, add a drainage system and order and lay the sod...Carlos offered cash discount and a discount for dump vouchers which we did...The dirt was not prepped properly because we had weeds within a week (no response from Carlos as to what to do about this) Sprinklers were not adjusted properly some grass does not get water but our concrete gets plenty and sprinklers not working....response is we did not put the sprinklers in so not our responsibility in complete contrast of what the contract said. He way over ordered the sod but luckily he bought some of that back from us. Spots were left without sod, they did come back to fix that but there are gaps between sod pieces which leads to more weeds. read more

If I could give them 0 stars I would. They didn't level the yard before adding the decomposed granite. They needed to add more flagstone but didn't know enough to tell us that. The drains were done wrong. They did add a stock tank pool but didn't research it enough to know and the reversed the way the hoses were supposed to be. They don't have a license to garden so it's at your own risk. I wish I would have looked them up on yelp to see all the one star reviews. Let the buyer beware. Then go to Agrotech landscaping. They fixed everything and then some. I was over charged for a job done poorly. Agrotech was reasonable and gave great customer service unlike Avila landscaping. REALLY Wish I never hired this dude. Never thought to check and see if his license was valid, FIRST mistake. Hiring him, SECOND mistake. Thinking he'd actually care that his work was shitty and want to fix it to maintain his rep, THIRD mistake. Carlos seemed cool at first but definitely like he was on something. His quote, although written down, kept changing which caused for a lot of unnecessary back and forth messaging. He offered discount for dump vouchers but I never saw that written on anything NOR did he haul off enough to need TWO vouchers, but whatever. The work was started almost 2 weeks after he said it would be. He didn't do what I asked him to do with my river rock formation and had an attitude when I was adamant about him changing it. I finally got it my way after he changed it multiple times. The ground cover under the river rock and wood chips was visible in several places and was not pinned down or secured. I was wondering why he would have the wood chips slant up my wall slightly and now I know why, because the ground cover was up against the wall and not secured down (see photos from when job completed with it covered and now that the chips are sliding down and exposing the ground cover going up my wall....CLEARLY not flat or secure). The price may have been slightly better than other companies but the headache and shitty job that accompanied it were NOT worth it!! He didn't get any weeds in the sidewalk/driveway area (minimal amount and required minimal effort) but when I asked about it he said it wasn't included in the contract. Well, neither were the dump vouchers but he had no issue taking and using those! My brand new hose nozzle was broken the last day they were there but he never responded to that message and I chose not to push the issue because I was OVER dealing with him at that point. I discovered today, 8 months after he put the DG in, that I have two fault line looking craters down the side of my yard to the sidewalk, but my drain system is supposed to go through the river rocks to the street. His response, this is due to water running and DG is not warrantied. Uhmm, never did I ask if it was under warranty as I would NEVER have you back to my property for ANY work. I would only recommend this dude to my worst enemy. His work is sub par, his attitude is cocky/negative when confronted with anything, and that's IF he even responds. Do yourself a favor, STAY AWAY from Carlos and his shitty business practices/work! Disclosure...I waited so long to write this review because I didn't want to write it based on my initial frustration so I chose to wait, relax and see if the work grew on me or was I over reacting a bit. Today I had a small exchange with him about the fault line looking areas in the side of the yard which intensified the bad taste he left in my mouth 8 months ago. That prompted me to see if he had a Yelp and, well, here we are. First time I met him a while back, he was HIGH & provided estimate for Yard Work. We didn't do that job. After that we used carlos services several times for Mostly Cleanup & Trash Out. Recently we needed help with a roof leak at 2 of the Rental Properties, he agreed to do the work & Purchased Materials from Home Depot like 3 Tarps & other Supplies. We didn't use the tarps so he returned one after few days of getting paid & Follow up & said he couldn't return other 2 because he got it from other Home Depot which is BS. After this it became very difficult to get hold of him. He kept 2 Tarps Worth Approx $260 & didn't want to answer the phone anymore. Once in a while text response that I am busy & I will return it soon. We finally got hold of him & asked him to return the tarps so we can return it ourself. He kept the $129 Each Tarp & gave us 2 different sizes tarps one $39 & one $64. We asked Home Depot to see if Wrong tarps were sold or charged, they confirmed NO. Carlos Avila is not honest. He put artificial turf in our backyard. The lines between a few pieces of the turf on the right side were not blended well together and do not look like a large uniformed piece. I asked for it to be fixed but he told me it would blend together on its own within a week as the heat from the sun warms it and promised to come back if it didn't. I took him for his word because he presented himself as an honest Christian man. I gave it a couple weeks since it was cold and then contacted him because the lines still didn't blend together. He responded saying to to give it longer because it hadn't been hot enough. I believed him because it had been raining a lot. More time passed and it got warm. The lines still didn't blend together so I contacted him again. He ghosted me and wouldn't respond. After multiple messages he finally respond saying the job was finished and he wouldn't be coming back. In addition, the ground was not properly leveled before laying the turf. It's very bumpy. Please don't let this "king of landscape" Carlos Avila scam you. I am writing this because I don't want anyone else to be scamed. He charched us $ 7.000,-- for 48 feet of 4 foot high chainlink fence. He took that money out of our checking account without our approval. I assume he kept our debit-card information in his cellphone when we made the down payment. (He made me read the card info to him, then verified it by holding it under his cellphone) He broke our sprinkler system in the process of installing one of the fence pols. Therefore, he said it wasn't his fault...... But he promised to come back the next day to fix it. Before he left, he wanted me to "finger sign" on his phone, that he finished the fence. He probably used this signature to draw out the remaining balance to make a total of $7.000,-- When we realized he wiped out our bank account, we contacted him by text. He insulted my husband: " You're so ugly....you can't even find an american woman. He then gave "rating" on my chest area.....nobody asked for his input on any of that. He did not finish his terrible job or fix our sprinkler system, which he had to break because that was where one of the fence posts had to go. He texted: "I have my money, why then should I come back?" Then he blocked us. Please do not let him do that to you. We are now broke financially and emotionally drained. Is there a way to give zero stars?? My husband had carlos come over on Sunday, 4/18 to give an estimate on some work we are thinking of doing in our yard. While there my husband mentioned that he'd purchased a large palm tree from a local nursery and Carlos said he could have his guys pick the tree up and come and plant it for us. They agreed on $75.00 to do that and Carlos said they'd do it on Tuesday, 4/19. They never showed. Around 430 on Tuesday afternoon my husband called Carlos and I overheard the conversation because he was on speakerphone. Carlos said his guys got tied up and wouldn't make it until the next day. Carlos asked if 10am on Wednesday 4/20 would work and we said yes. Never showed again. He didn't answer my husbands call yesterday afternoon and now via text he has a horrible attitude - telling my husband that he never said he would definitely do the tree and that he didn't show up because he's busy doing jobs that are making him more money!! Does he not realize that we were considering using him for our larger project which came with a price tag of nearly $4000!?! Do not use this company!!! His attitude changed dramatically and I'm still stunned that someone would treat a customer this way! Ok, so I totally agree with ALL the prior reviews. So this JUST happened. We scheduled with Carlos to install DG on both sides of our home. I signed a "contract" which stated he would start the job Saturday 03/13/2021 and that the job would be completed in ONE DAY. Carlos and a worker arrived Saturday morning to do the job. They picked up the materials dropped them here at my house. They placed hills of the DG on the side of the house and left. He didn't say anything to me. It was around 12 noon so I figured they went to lunch. HA! he didn't return. So I texted him Sunday asking what happened as he went to lunch and never returned and asked when would he return. He said he doesn't work on Sundays and would come back on Tuesday morning. Okkkaayyyy. Well Monday morning around 7am he texted that they would come today to complete the job. moving forward now. Carlos and his crew arrived around 8am to complete the job. Cool. Job completed it's ok I guess, as I can't really tell too well because it started to rain. So, Carlos charged us $1400.00 for everything including labor. the amount given was after a cash pay discount plus my two dump vouchers. I placed $1400 in an envelope for landscaping project and wrote on the envelope 1400.00.(this part is important) once I gave him the deposit of $300.00 I then crossed off the 1400 and wrote 1100. You following me?!?! Ok so once the job was completed he text that my balance was now 1155.00 because I had to pay for a border and a few flagstones he picked up for me. No worries. Of course. So I took that same ass envelope with the 1100 in it that I wrote 1100.00 and went to my purse grabbed another 100.00 bill to put in the envelope to make it 1200.00 to include a 45.00 tip. I gave him the envelope and Thanked him for his work. This was at 1125am when they completed the job. Carlos text me with an attitude at 4:50pm saying I needed to call the waste management for the dump voucher that I owe him and also that I owe him 60.00 for the border and flagstones. So I called him. He said I only gave him 1100. I said no I gave you 1200. He said no you gave me 1100 and you even wrote it on the envelope. BWHAHAHAHA Dude I don't care what I wrote I know what I gave you. I proceeded to tell him why I wrote the amount there and also that I took the other 100 from my purse. He's like yeah whatever forget it. I'm like NO, hell no. I'm not a cheat, Liar, nor scammer. I know dammm well I gave you 1200. He says well I guess I fucked up because I didn't count it in front of you. I said yes true. But WTF??!?!?! DON'T YOU EVER QUESTION MY INTEGRITY PERIODT. I'm not a thief, nor a cheat. Carlos Avila is not a licensed contractor as his business card claims. He wrote a contract to do fencing with 10% down and the rest payable upon completion. He torn down several sections of our existing fence on the first day. The second day he started setting poles. He and his crew didn't show up for two days then upon their return he demanded more money to finish the job. His work was poorly done; we could have paid teenagers and had better quality. Not one portion of the fencing was complete, straight or gate posts set correctly. We were left with our property completely unsecured and had to find another company to rip out with he did and finish the job. I tried to take him to small claims court, but can't locate him to serve him with the paperwork. I tried to talk with him he blocked me on all social media, phone, and wouldn't sign for a certified letter. I have all the paperwork, photos, and correspondence to prove my statements are true. Look for a someone else, not a "company" that has a fraudulent license number, no business permits and poor quality of workmanship. I wish I had looked to the Yelp reviews before hiring him as it's the only place he cannot sensor bad reviews. I believe he has ruined his reputation in his home town and is now looking to the High Desert (Apple Valley, Hesperia, Victorville, etc) for more victims. read more
