Michael was awesome! Very friendly, easy going, took his time as he walked us through a property we were interested in. His knowledge of construction and safety was stellar and made the entire process a breeze. In fact, he was the easiest part of the entire process of buying a house. A few other things: - He drove over 30 minutes to our location and didn't charge us an extra fee. - He was on time - He had a great attitude. Buying a house is stressful enough -- he put us at ease - He walked us through each issue on-site explaining what the problem was and how it can be fixed (even said how much it might be) - His report was easy to follow - He picked up the phone when we called after to walk us through a few questions we had on the report -- and didn't charge us for that You won't be disappointed if you work with Michael Kirby -- very, very nice guy, smart and knowledgeable. read more

I have not been asked to write a review; this is my honest experience with Mike and Avidia. I really hope others write more as he deserves it. I am moving to a new town, and didn't have any idea who to hire for an inspection. I found him on Yelp and took a chance. It has been one of the best and easiest decisions I have made with the home buying process so far. I needed an inspection for a custom home on a decent-sized lot that required a lot of due diligence - custom home with lots of updates and modifications in a rural area. On the phone, Mike provided very reasonable quotes and clear expectations up front. He then arrived promptly on time, and literally left no stone unturned. He was personable, professional, communicative, and extremely dedicated to his work. The inspection took twice as long as expected, AND he had to commute back the next day to inspect the crawl space that the seller had to open for him, and he knocked it out of the park without even batting an eye. The inspection report arrived just two days later (it would have arrived sooner had he not had to wait on the sellers to check the crawl space). My realtor and I were blown away (and my realtor has seen a LOT of inspection reports in her day). It was the most squared away, comprehensive inspection report that I have ever seen. It gave us so much to work with to negotiate with the seller to get them to fix or otherwise be held accountable for outstanding issues with the home. His costs are absolutely reasonable, and he even gave me a military service discount. He is experienced, reliable, and was a tradesman, so he knows his craft. I cannot thank him enough, and recommend him without reservation to anyone who needs a qualified inspector who demonstrates integrity and expertise. He truly has your best interests at heart. read more

We were looking for a home inspector in an area we never worked in. So glad we found Mike!!! He is professional, detailed, kind and educated in all aspects of home inspecting. Answered all our million and 1 questions and even did a second inspection after we requested the items to be fixed from the seller. Pricing is excellent and report is detailed. He does have a busy schedule, which I am so thrilled for, he deserves it! Definitely recommend him for your next home inspection!!!! Mike Kirby is THE MOST thorough home inspector we've ever experienced!!! Ever! He takes his time, looks at every detail imaginable, and documents findings impeccably. His philosophy is "I work for you, the home buyer, period. Not only does he walk through his findings with you in tow, he provides a range of options for addressing the chink in the armor. It's an education not just an inspection. Mike is also available for follow up calls if things aren't as clear as you need them. He tells you what should be addressed immediately bc of a danger or a serious code or safety violation. We trust him implicitly! He has done two home inspections for us. I can't think of anything else he could have done except for cooking our first dinner personally. Not sure if he's a good cook :). Very personable, frank, and responsive. 5-Star + read more

If there actual service is anything like their customer service, you are in for a treat! I did a quote request via Yelp for an issue I'm having as I thought I needed an inspector. They responded quickly and asked for more information. I responded with more details and received the most thoughtful and honest reply. They first shared that their service may not give me what I need. Then it got even better! They gave me additional insight on the type of company I should call AND the type of service I should request. This information is like gold to me. There are not enough words to express my heartfelt appreciation for them taking that extra time to help me given they had nothing to gain from it. This type of customer service is so rare that I had to share it with my Yelp community. Thank you Avidia!!!! read more

My husband and I were in need of a home inspector for the house we are hoping to move to in Tehachapi and we like to support local business. We found Avidia Home Inspections and decided to choose them based on their good reviews. I am SO glad we did. We were not disappointed! Michael was so professional and thorough. He spent a little over 3 hours during his inspection and even came back the following day so that he could complete his inspection of the attic. When we received our report, we were pleasantly surprised at how extensive and thorough it was (57 pages!). We currently had our home inspection done on our house by a different contractor (chosen by the buyers) and there is no comparing to Michael's work. If you are in need of a home inspector, Avidia will not disappoint! I will recommend Michael 100%. read more

What a breath of fresh air! I sent out a request for a roof inspection quote through Yelp. Michael responded almost immediately. After asking me a couple of questions, he quickly let me know that he is not the right person for the job I'm looking for. He gave me some good advice and guidance and pointed me in the right direction. If I were buying property, I would definitely look to Michael for the job of inspecting it before purchasing. His responses/advise were honest and to the point. I wish I could do business with this company for that aspect alone, unfortunately, they are not what I need at the moment. read more

My wife and I were buying a home up in the Tehachapi area and needed a home inspection done. We didn't want our real estate agent to choose who we used. I just feel like that would be a conflict of interest. There aren't many inspectors based locally up here but after interviewing several we chose Avidia. The day of the inspection I brought my dad who's a contractor himself but isn't licensed to do home inspections. He shadowed Mike during the process and told me that he was very knowledgeable and thorough throughout the entire process. I think what gives him the advantage is that he's also very personable and is a bargain for what he brings to the table. I don't write reviews very often but I do when I think a business really deserves it, whether good or bad. If you're looking for a great home inspector at an awesome price Mike's your guy. read more

Want peace of mind when contemplating buying a house, Michael is as good as they get. I had Michael inspect a home I was very interested in buying. He showed up on time and was extremely professional. He was very personable and friendly. He stepped me through certain aspects of the house showing me where it was very good and where it might have issues. I found this to be very helpful. In addition, he would point out likely issues I would have in the future as well as remedies for the issues. He was extremely thorough in his inspection and a gave great attention to detail. His report gave me the confidence and assurance to proceed with the purchase. I recommend him to anyone who wants peace of mind when it comes to discovering any possible issue. Call him, you won't regret it, I know I will if I need any more inspections. read more

My Fiancé and I have used Michael Kirby twice in two months, and are very happy we did. The first house we were in escrow for had several problems he was able to point out very quickly, and was very informative. His attention to detail and friendly personality had us calling him again when we found our new house. He is very prompt with his reports, between 1-3 days for an organized description of the state of the house. We will definitely use him in the future and recommend him to anybody looking for an honest inspector. read more
