The instructor checked the weather to help determine the best day for an hour flight up. We got some Ariel views of the ground below. Only traveled about 5-10 nautical miles from the airport and traveled northwest. Ann Arbor is only about 30 nautical miles away. The first discovery flight for a 4 seater plane is $220. The two seater is only $180 or so. The 4 seater is a bit more roomy for taller folks, like my husband. We could have also flown out of their Howell, Ypsilanti, Flint and their Pontiac location. The discovery today was out of Pontiac airport. It's another worldly experience being up in the air and in the cockpit area of a plane for sure. The instructor, M was nice, a newer licensed pilot. He was still informative and helpful. Always there supporting and coaching my husband through the process during the discovery fight. He did the take-off and landing for us, as expected for the first time up. M said he has never flown for fun at all, it has always been for work and to rack up his required flight hours. He only got his private pilot license back in 2016. M made sure to do a 10-15 minute plane check ahead of the fight take-off and helped field some more follow-up questions after our flight. You steer with the stick between your legs. The Pontiac location is towered. The Howell location is not towered. Gives a bit more assurance flying out of a towered airport than an unmanned airport. The first discovery flight cost $220 out the door. Each flight up will be about $250 or so there afterwards. Requires about 55 hours of flight up through Crosswinds. It is 40 hours minimum by the FAA. $150 for two seater planes after the first ride and four seater is $189 for an hour at a time, includes gas per hour. Excludes any landing fees for the airports. The tank holds enough gas for about a 4 hour flight. You get to fly for 45 minutes of the hour ride up. It's recommended that you keep the same instructor for all of your lessons too for consistency and comfort. Their planes are newer and well kept as well. I can see why folks take the plunge and take flight lessons now.

Great flight school and rental service all around. The instructors are fantastic and the aircraft…read moreare well maintained. Crosswinds won't just teach you to be a pilot. Instead, they will teach you how to be a safe and competent pilot who can analyze flight conditions and make go/no go decisions. The scheduling system allows renters to squawk issues that are noticed on aircraft so that they can be sent in for maintenance. It is easy to tell that both flight safety and enjoyment are key to Crosswinds. I have completed my private pilot through Crosswinds and am in the process of completing my instrument rating with them. I have rented their planes for over 50 hours of personal flying time with zero issues. I have no complaints, except that I wish they had a multi-engine plane.

Worst customer service! Worst quality of service! Worst at customer communication!…read more As an aircraft owner, I hired this company for a radio installation and headset jack install. They promised a 2-week turnaround. After nearly 2 MONTHS later, the aircraft was ready for pickup. On the trip home, multiple systems that were working previously were now found inoperative. Once we got it back home, my mechanic was hired to find and repair the problems. Here is what they found: *Flap switch inoperative due to wires, their company, relocated erroneously through the flap lever. *A/C wires pulled from the relocated switch too taunt. This caused the wires to short out and blow a 75 amp breaker!!! * Shorted-out wire touched the aircraft ground and literally arced so much an inflight fire could have easily happened. This company performed less than adequate (actually UNSAFE) work. I sent multiple pictures to Top Flight showing them the errors made, only to find them less than cooperative in rectifying their mistakes. NEVER do business with a company that does not answer or return calls. They will overpromise and underperform in every aspect when it comes to aircraft installation and repairs. At this time, we are reporting them to the FAA safety board as well as seeking reimbursement of our cost to get their errors repaired.
