This review is solely based on my personal experience at AVI as a Basic Esthetic student. Things might've changed now, but that doesn't take away from my experience as a student who paid for their education and wasn't met with the exceptions and with the promises that they made. I also want to clarify that the only reason I'm giving this place any stars is because google makes you give at least a star and it's also due to the fact that I had two amazing instructors, Ms. Rhonda and Ms. Gulzar and Yomira in the front was really nice and helpful. I started in May 2022 as a part time student but decided to go in full time and let the owner, Naheed, know through a phone conversation we had. When I signed up, I was told that changing to a full time student wouldn't be a problem, how as a class we would receive make up classes from a makeup artist, how we would go visit the Dermalogica school that's located in Tyson's, and how we would have Dermalogica events throughout the program. Within the first three months, I had encountered three different instructors, never during the time that I was there did we have a makeup artist come in, never even got the chance to visit the Dermalogica school, most of the Dermalogica events have been through zoom, and right as I had finished my program, there has been another instructor that came to teach the last class I attended. Not only was there miscommunication between the staff and students, but every single time that a new instructor comes in, Naheed, would come in to class and tell us, the students, how we are doing everything wrong and how everything was not up to date with the DPOR. Mind you, her the equipment is all old, half of the esthetic beds were broken, some of the products were expired, yet she had all of us deep clean the room and figure out what was broken and what wasn't so it could be "up to date" with the DPOR. When we presented Naheed with a list of what was broken/expired, what supplies we needed to succeed and how the Wifi never worked, her answer was "I'll fix it, don't worry about it." She also said it was our duty as students to deep clean the room. I understand cleaning up after our practicals and making sure that we leave the room fully stocked, but when it came to dusting the room, and putting aside equipment that wasn't working properly because she didn't take the time to check for herself is a bit unacceptable. I was there for five and a half months and the owner kept saying she's working on fixing the Wifi, but it never worked in the duration that I was there, she told me to use my own hot spot in order to login to Mindtap or Classmarker, which is required to do so for theory purposes. The supply was never ordered because she said we have to provide our own supply and that she's not obligated to provide anything other than the basic kits. So if it wasn't for Ms. Rhonda that provided products for lash tinting, lash lift, eyebrow lamination and eyebrow tint, I probably would've never learned those protocols. As mentioned earlier, Ms. Rhonda and Ms. Gulzar were absolutely amazing! They're passionate about the esthetics program and want the students to succeed. Extremely grateful to have had them teaching us and for being so understanding with our frustrations and also providing us with supplies and equipment that actually worked that they have paid for. Naheed on the other hand is money hungry, is so condescending and will belittle you if you don't agree with her. She likes to gaslight her students because she has little to no respect for anyone, even her employees. She literally threatened to kick me out of the program for not showing up to class because I had COVID. She withheld my certificate for three weeks because I graduated a month earlier, but yet she allowed other students to graduate without taking a midterm or final, so please explain how is that fair? I went in there and did everything that needed to be done and passed all my exams and practicals and completed my hours. Please save yourself some time and money, because this place isn't worth it at all. read more
