My husband and I planned a trip to Hawaii using Michele Petrole at Agency Travel Group in Madison. We had never been to Hawaii so we were looking for guidance and recommendations for best time to go, hotels to stay in and activities to do. We met with Michele and told her what specific things we wanted to do, how long we wanted to stay and what our budget was. She took our wishes seriously and helped us work them into the trip along with her suggestions from her experience. She set us up with hotels that far exceeded our expectations. About 2 weeks before we were leaving she notified us about a pending strike at one of our hotels and recommended an alternative, which we agreed with. She changed it immediately. Thank goodness we did because many people staying at the hotel with the strike spent their vacation time trying to change hotels while we never wasted any of our vacation time because Michele was so on top of things! Our entire trip went off without a hitch. All of the travel, transportation, hotels, and activities worked as planned with companies that were great. We had a wonderful experience with Agency Travel, have recommended them to friends and will definitely use them again!! read more

100% agree with the other post, wish I saw this before I booked. If i did we would have booked elsewhere. Marianne worst agent only thinks of her customers as commission and once commission service is done she ignores and avoids contact with the client. It is her job to book dinners and such, she will claim to book these things, but because they do not involve additional commission and it is additional work on her end she just does not book them (example spa credit, honeymoon welcome, dinner and glass boat reservations). She will confirm many times that she booked things, but when you get to the hotel you will find the opposite, and have to rebook if thats an option, and you will have to pay out of pocket. After reading reviews it seems she has this laziness with many others too. Marianne is cold hearted and unapologetic of the disaster of a honeymoon she caused for us. My husband and I would like to thank Janice, our awesome travel agent. We called her from the airport when our flight home from Chicago, which we had booked ourselves, went from a 9:00 PM flight, to a 10:30 PM flight, and was then canceled. We were told at the airport, that there were no flights to be had for what was left of that day. We were offered a flight at 6:30 AM the next morning. Not a flight home to New Jersey, but to an airport in New York. That would have been a nightmare! That's when we called Janice, and she jumped right into helping us. She got us on an earlier flight that same night, going to New Jersey, where we were originally scheduled to go. We can't thank her enough! Janice has always done a great job when setting up trips and vacations for us, always thinking of everything. But to drop everything and quickly find us a flight home, when she had not booked the original flight for us, well, we just think that is above and beyond! Thank you so much Janice! read more

After trying to plan our Europe trip ourselves over the internet, with expensive results, we decided to try Avenue Travel. We were always under the impression that you pay a premium for using a travel agency but trust us, it is the exact opposite in fact. I called them with a loose idea of where and when we wanted to go and Michele called me back within an hour with the perfect itinerary. We went to Paris, Cannes, Amalfi Coast and Venice for far less than we imagined possible. Hotels and flights were included at a great rate for the entire package. Michele and staff at Avenue Travel Group are incredibly professionals. We were able to use our Amex points and received double membership rewards. Since then we've recommended them to everyone who has mentioned that they want to travel!! read more

(in our case it was a special welcome she had promised us, dinner reservations, and booking resort activities requiring a reservation because of limited seating, After reading reviews it seems she has this laziness with many others too. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! You are better off booking on your own...there is no benefit from booking with them. read more

Marianne Lauda of American Express Avenue Travel, Madison, NJ, was very helpful in helping plan my vacation this summer. First, I got to say I keep changing my mind as to a destination. First Belize, then Dominican Republic, then Mexico. I could not make up my mind based on price, amenities, lay overs, ect. At one point I said I don't know where to go. You think a travel agent would walk away at this point; Marianne stayed with me, just patiently making suggestions. She came up with a great suggestion to Guanacaste Costa Rica, which is ideal for my wish list of diving, fishing and interesting excursions nearby.
