    pancakes & bacon (2015)
    Jessica H.

Bottomless prosecco brunch? I was never going to say no to this offer on my recent jaunt to London. Booked in for 11am, my friend and I turned up at 10.45 - to an empty restaurant other than staff. This did not go down well with the girl on front desk, who was moments away from telling us to leave and come back later, but luckily a manager type appeared out of nowhere, took our coats and told us to take a seat in the 'bar' area until our table was ready. They then proceeded to actually lock the front door, causing confusion and many a stern telling off when some more people arrived. After this strange (but amusing) opening to our experience was over, we could take in our surroundings. And, boy, this place is fancy. The grand bar is fully stocked with all the liquor you could want, and a huge display of wine glasses takes centre stage. High ceiling, mirrors, and crisp white linen. We were not dressed for this... The menu is somewhat of a contrast to the setting, other than in the price. It's American fayre, with ribs as a brunch item and mac & cheese as a side. I through caution and dentistry to the wind and went for two sweet options - a 'main' of pancakes with bacon, and 'dessert' of lemon meringue pie with a refreshing raspberry sorbet. Both were tasty dishes, though portions are on the smaller side. You can have either bottomless prosecco or bloody mary's with your brunch, brought swiftly to the table throughout your meal. Unlike many 'bottomless alcohol' brunches, they do start you off before your food arrives, which is fairly generous. Once all plates have been clear, you're set for one more top up and that's your lot. And we got through a lot! A real treat in terms of location, presentation and service, but for £20 for 2 courses plus £15 for the prosecco, it's not something I'll be heading back for on a regular occasion. It stood out for the drinking novelty, but not so much the food.

    Pretty table decorations!

Not impressed by this place at all. It looks really swanky and is a great location right around the corner from the Ritz, but it does not live up to its glitzy interior. The staff seemed very clueless and sloooooow. As some people at the table chose their unlimited drink option, one would expect the staff to be on top of that and refill quickly, but they had to be called over to the table several times and sometimes just filled one glass and immediately disappeared again. They were just as clueless about the food, mixing up orders, just plopping plates in front of people without checking if that's what they ordered, and getting pretty much every single one wrong, we had to swap plates amongst each other ourselves. Definitely not attentive, terrible service. The food was entirely unremarkable. Not bad, but not great either and pretty standard fare that was definitely not worth the high price tag. The bathrooms are like stepping into a different world! One minute you're in a swanky, shiny, classy looking place, then you step through a door and suddenly you're in a dingy dive-bar style bathroom. Tiny stalls with doors that don't close, dingy lighting, peeling paint, it felt terribly disconnected from the interior of the restaurant and wasn't pleasant. I really wouldn't recommend this place at all.

Great spot for breakfast before walking to St. James Palace for the organization of changing of the guard. Food and espresso was simple and delicious. The server was very friendly.. would definitely go back.

This place is practically opposite St James Palace, The large Yellow flag flying majestically to let you know where they are. Its a very airy venue and has a modernist feel inside. There is a long bar filled with bottles of alcohol. A huge metal murial on oneside and a long wineglass chandelier in the middle. The toilets are tiny, you really have to squeeze in to shut the door. The staff are friendly and attentive. The cocktail list is full of new cocktails that i have never heard of before. Some of the recipies from America's prohibition period. I settled on a Senitmenalt Melody and a Carol Channing. A basket of bread was provided, very tasty but we were not told what they were but looking on the other review here I now know, I decided on the traditional Prawn cocktail or as they call it a Shrimp cocktail. This was delicious but a let down prawn wise. There was a small round of lettuce and fennel topped with what seemed like 4 prawns and marie sauce and grapefruit. However it was actually 2 prawns sliced in half, so not enough prawns to eat with the greens. This dish cost £14.50 thats £7.25 a prawn!!!!!!!!! I might try the clam chowder or smoked salmon next time. For the main we decided on the Rib eye steak and wow that was superbly cooked. We shared some sides with it of macaroni cheese with truffle oil ( a delight on the tastebuds), cayenne fries and hillbilly slaw. For dessert i settled on good old pecan brownie with ice cream and WOW that was the most moist rich brownie ever tasted. I definitely recommend this place for classy American dining at reasonable prices considering where its based.

American cuisine. Some of the food is really excellent. The waiting staff are very attentive. The major letdown was the pork or two. Very dry and not served with anything but a small bit of salad. Look at the fish or grill dishes if you're looking for a good meal!

Note: this review is particular to their Saturday brunch/ drunch. I had high hopes for this swank place, particularly as being American, the promise of a good stack of pancakes or crispy waffles had my mouth watering days in advance of my visit. Overall the brunch was merely ok, and not worth £25 for the food alone. The restaurant is located in a lovely spot on St. James' street, so you feel a bit special just going there. The venue itself is light and airy, modern yet comfortable with cushy chairs and large booths. Upon entering you are greeted and your coat taken. However I thought it was odd that the hostess asked to take my coat but stood there with hanger in hand watching me struggle to get out of it. Nevermind, I was shown to my table where some fellow Yelpers awaited to enjoy the meal ahead. For £25 I got: - A small bowl of fruit to start. Complimented with some fresh mint, this was light and tasty. -A waffle & syrup. (See the photo I've posted. I opted not to have the bacon) The waffle was very good - nice flavour; it could have been crispier but I was pleased nonetheless as haven't had a proper waffle in about 2 years. Yinnie chose the pancakes, which were a bit,...uh...stale...and sent them back. They tasted like they'd been made a while ago and were sitting around, not really fresh and hot as they should be. Disappointing. However, the waiter took them back without question and brought a waffle instead, which I thought was excellent service. Grant, Robyn, Tom and Daniel had the burger which (although I'm a non-meat eater) looked pretty good. -Dessert: Brownie & brandy ice cream. Brownies, how I miss you. I find it hard to get good ones in London / U.K. This brownie was really more of a fondant, not cakey as it should be -- a consistency which pairs much better with the ice cream than a fondant. The ice cream tasted freezer burnt. So then, how about that £10 extra for the booze? The bloody mary was ok, not brilliant. Couldn't taste any vodka and it wasn't spicy or full bodied enough for my liking. We certainly did get through a lot of Prosecco, although it didn't flow as freely (we weren't served as frequently) as has been my experience at other places. On one occasion we had to wait 5 minutes to be served drinks again, which...as the pouring of drinks is only done within a 2 hour time limit....is an excessive amount of time to wait with a parched palate. However for the extra £10 it was worth it; I suppose the extra cost of all that Prosecco flowing is figured into the overpriced food package. Overall I wouldn't return -- but had a great time out anyway.

Located near Green Park Station you cannot miss the large see-through glass windows giving you an immediate insight to the amazing interior design with it's large yellow flag hanging above. With a glass chandelier in the centre, dark wooden tables, dimmed lighting and spacious it is a place I would class as fine dining. Staff all had beautiful matching uniforms. We were assigned our own waitress that evening, a lovely lady named Miriam. All staff knew the menu well and for the third day of opening I was impressed. Coats were taken, chairs pulled back for seating, water refilled, staff smiling and always available- unfaultable service. The complimentary breads were spectacular and worth a praise- San Francisco sourdough and potato and rosemary bread, both fluffy with the potato and rosemary being the highlight for the fragrance and the lightness to it served with a delicious creamy salted butter which just lifted the flavours. Being new to fine American dining we asked for recommendations from Miriam who highly suggested the soft shell crab and clam chowder. The excitement she gave won us over and those were the starters we chose. The crab was amazingly light and crispy, influences from the east and from the Mexican cuisine with the avocado puree and chipotle sauce on the side that went well with the crab and the side of rocket. Clam chowder was served in the classic American way, a bread bowl with a bag of cracker to crunch up and pour on top for texture to the creamy, thick chowder- all very pleasing to the palate. Sadly mains weren't all that satisfying. The Yufka whiting's filo pastry overtook the texture of the fish which felt lost to the chewiness of the overcooked batter. Flavours and moisture were lost as a result and the ratio of batter and fish wasn't well balanced. I would also advise a wedge of lemon on the side just to compliment the dish as well. More successful were the double cooked chips that were amazingly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the outside, all well seasoned too. The pig loaf was recommended to us. As succulent and well seasoned as it was, it needed more flavour. It could have been a lot better if some vegetables were added like carrots, peppers and celery for some natural sweetness and to break it up so it was too heavy to eat. It would have also improved the texture. But still it was a very good quality meatloaf, coarse and juicy and came with lovely cooked sweet cabbages on the side, a nice tomato puree and gravy to add moisture & flavour. But the best dish was the awesome slow cooked lamb chop requested medium rare. And I would recommend everyone to order it cooked this way as it was bursting with sweetness and was effortless to cut with a knife. The fat underneath really marbled the meat which gave it that tenderness. It came with quinoa which was a bit bland but together with the gravy it all came together well. I would definitely order this again. Portions sizes were large here which is unusual for a fine dining place But I was more than happy as it meant there was more for sharing and very American like. We need not to have order the side of macaroni cheese but it was also recommended. It was made mostly of Parmesan cheese and probably Provolone cheese on top for that stringy texture with small amount of blue cheese for that more pungent taste and depth of flavour. It was good but definitely needed to be baked a little more longer for browning that would give it that smokey edge to it. We finished the meal with Apple fritters which came in threes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a jug of custard. Why don't everyone serve desserts like this, ice cream to balance out the sweetness and custard to bring the dessert together in a warm creamy gooeynesst. The fritters were shaped like large raviolis, in a light golden crispy filo pastry, filled to the top with a sweet, thick filling of apples. The texture and flavours and the combination of hot and cold was amazing. It was nice to have a full control of how much custard you wanted, the temperature and how crunchy you wanted it. A pure delight. Throughout the whole meal our plates were cleared at appropriate timing, staff checking after each course making sure everything was okay, the place was very well staffed so all our needs were met nearly immediately e.g. for extra condiments. Tables were cleaned by a table brush so you felt clean. I felt like the queen for the night. It was an a lovely warm atmosphere, glamorous setting too and I can imagine it to be completely different atmosphere during the day with the natural light coming in from the front and from the side of the ceiling that revealed the sky. All their dishes are a high standard but with some extra touches they can be improved tremendously. Service and the atmosphere won over the food ever so slightly for me but overall the experience was very memorable. But just for those lamb chops and apple fritters I already plan my next return. 4.5 out of 5!

Big banner in case you miss it.

It's a little unassuming family run restaurant but with serious intent from the kitchen. I was offered a table in the main dining room or the garden when I walked in - as we are in the middle of 'Wimbledon week showers', I chose to dine indoors. The menu was written in impressively authentic sounding terms but closer inspection revealed some fusion going on - lemongrass, tumeric and enoki mushrooms being amongst the ingredients on show. I'm up for a bit of fusion as long as it doesn't end in con-fusion! Having confirmed that I was hungry, the helpful waiter suggested getting 3 dishes. I couldn't help myself and went for the fusion sounding dishes. Panceta con cidra was pork belly, rolled and marinated with garlic, black pepper and dill, braised in Asturian cider. I zoom in pork belly whenever I see it and this version has been slowly cooked to melting tenderness with the dill coming through strongly - it didn't need the wedge of lemon which came with it and I enjoyed it as it arrived. Pollo a la plancha del Parador were a pair of chicken thighs marinated in lemon grass, turmeric, garlic & coriander and cooked on the plancha (grill). I prefer dark meat as it remains moist and the oriental kick wasn't too overwhelming. When the waiter said the Higadillos Salteados (chicken livers with Iberico Jamon, enoki mushrooms, shallots, black pepper and butter) would be served pink inside, I smiled - nice to see a restaurant willing to serve food as it should be cooked and not pander to squeamish guests. These were a delight and to get some Iberico ham from acorn-fed pigs was a bonus. This is tapas of the highest order, given a little twist. A little Yelp gem which deserves its high star rating.

El Parador specialises in scallops, Halibut, and crab... although they were many others still left to be tried. The interior Decor, to me seemed rather french with little white table clothes and a smart yet gentle ambience. The wine list was impressive to say the least, with over 30 bottles of wine, in the price range of £13-30, with over 15 available by glass. The lunchtime menu has a special offer of 3 tapas for the price of two.
