During my recent visit to México City, my friend and co-worker suggested we have Saturday brunch buffet at Ave María. It was definitely worth the drive across the city. Somewhere in the middle of this vast city, we arrived at Coyoacán. It's like an oasis in the middle of the desert. Ave María sits alongside a beautiful park area with other restaurants. It has a lovely outdoor seating area in front of the restaurant. The service was exceptional, and the variety of food prepared was unbelievable. The hostess walked us through the inside, then around the outdoor buffet area, and back to the front. We chose to sit outside to enjoy the beautiful weather which allowed us to watch the people wandering through the park. Any and everything you could imagine from true Méxican cuisine, they had on the buffet. Trust me, the authentic Méxican cuisine is nothing like Tex-Mex, it's immeasurably different and satisfying. Some of my favorites were the "Caldo de Camarón," enormous and delicious tamales, al pastor tacos shaved directly from the spit when ordered, fresh fruits, and freshly squeezed juices. If you ever find yourself in México City make sure you see your way here. You won't be disappointed, I promise.

I approached the hostess stand on a Sunday at 11:15 a.m. She told me the wait was 30 minutes. So I went to look at the huge menu at one end of the restaurant. I approached her at about 11:35 or 11:40 a.m. and she told me they had called my name; therefore, my name gets put behind everyone at this point. Arghhhh. I don't understand this way of operating. The hostess did the same thing to a family who didn't hear them being called. We finally get seated. After looking at the menu outside, we're told they only are serving a brunch buffet. Another arghhh! Can't hostess indicate that or could the huge menu outside be replaced with one indicating that there is only a brunch buffet offered on Sundays? We were hungry and we decided to stay. The sweet bread basket was empty. A waiter told me they were out but he'd go look for some. I then saw the two baskets full of bread. The waiter was picking some with tongs and putting some of the bread I wanted. He said a family had asked for that particular bread. That showed favoritism. Furthermore, my brother in law's coffee cup had a lip stick mark. And the man making omelettes and bread was using his phone when I approached him. Phones are full of germs and he shouldn't be allowed to have his phone while preparing food for people. The buffet had plenty of food including fruit, pancakes, tacos, fresh juices, bolillos and much more. I'm not a big eater and don't know if I got my money's worth. Cost is about $15.

Located in the heart of Coyoacan, in the very popular Centenario Square, this restaurante has a traditional Mexican food menu including most of the typical dishes. They offer buffet option on weekends, I got this and it was great, wide variety of dishes. Service is great too.

Service was great, the atmosphere is the best outside just off the square. I read on Yelp the Italian food was the way to go. My wife and I split the Salmon ravioli in crema rosada and Lasagna Boloñesa. They were pretty good. My Cuñado however let me try the Tortilla Soup and it was honestly the best I've ever had. I'm in Mexico City, go figure!

    Delicious appetizer.

La comida era más o menos bien, pero el servicio era pésimo. Tardaron más de una hora en darnos la comida.

Excellent restaurant. If you're in Coyoacán, this is the place if you want to splurge a bit.

When we came in, there was no one there. It remained this way for the entire duration of our time there. I don't know if we just ate at a later time when most customers had already ate dinner or if the absence of customers is due to the food. Personally, I felt like their food is not bad, but it's also not good to the point where it blew my mind for me to come back for seconds. I ordered a prime rib with 2 quesadillas and avocado. The prime rib tasted a little bland and a little extra seasoning would have definitely helped out with the flavoring. The quesadillas were not that good because they were very dry. Overall, I would sum up the food as boring. The service was extremely friendly! Unfortunately due to my limited Spanish, I couldn't appreciate the warmth and enthusiasm of the conversation that the server was having with my other friends. Therefore, my review is mainly based on the quality of the food as opposed to the service. Oh and if you happen to be a foreigner like me and ends up using the English-version menu, the prices on it are wrong. The real prices are on the Spanish-version menu and they are slightly pricier.

We started with two orders of escamoles. They make it table side which I've not seen before. They say it was delicious. I don't eat ant eggs. We also got two orders of quesadilla - cheese, squash flower, and "corn smut" aka chicharrone. Service was good but after appetizers, they didn't change silverware. A little disappointing. They were good. I started with the cilantro soup. It was creamy with a hint of heat. The cilantro was an aftertaste and not overbearing. I would get this again. I decided to get the Chiles en Nogada, again. Since it is only in season such a short time. It was delicious! The temperature was warm. The group beef inside of the panlano was the perfect combination of meat, fruit, and nuts. The sauce was not too thick and not too sweet. Could have used more pomegranate but that's more my taste. Weird Banos situation: the Men's Bathroom is upstairs- be warned if you are drinking :) Women's is downstairs. One person said this was the best meal they had in Mexico. Everything was really good. I will come back here and try other dishes- like the chicken mole that was raved by one of our locals. The service was good. We drank a Mexican Cabernet wine and would get that again. The wine glasses we were served in varied in size. I got the baby glass! The decor is warm and inviting with interesting Mexico themes. The walls are rustic yet the art looks high end; this combination works here. Strange children's playroom upstairs.
