I have been wanting to visit their winery which is located in the Columbia Gorge, but its a far trip for me so when I heard that they opened their tasting room in Portland downtown, I was so excited! Today I finally got to visit their beautiful and cozy tasting room located on Fremont st. in Portland. They have their winery-exclusive bottles as well as distribution wines, and a very reasonable tasting menu, with 4 Bubbles for $25 and mix of 6 varietals for $35, which is a must try if you're new to their wines. The service was top notch and the staff were so knowledgeable and could tell you everything from where the grapes are grown and how they're aged. I absolutely loved their 2023 Sparkling Chenin Blanc, which is made Prosecco style, mildly dry with great balance of bubbles. They also have Gamay Noir, which I highly recommend if you're into easy, light reds. Chardonnay is also so special, slightly tart and puckery, aged in both Stainless Steel and French Oak! I can go on and on... They have a Wine Club membership as well. Most wines are $30-$42 (some are $20s and even $84), moderately priced with excellent quality, highly worth it. Their famous Tempranillo Rosé and Heavy Glow which is a sparkling rosé at Whole Foods and they're some of their most popular bottles. I can't wait to come back.

Unfortunately, it turned out to be quite disappointing. While some members of our group were doing the wine tasting, the rest of us were not allowed to order wine and had to wait until the tasting was finished. It didn't make sense that we couldn't simply enjoy a glass of wine while waiting. It was quite cold outside, so we asked if we could move indoors. We were told that the indoor tables were reserved, and instead we were offered blankets. Although we appreciated the gesture, it wasn't a comfortable solution given the weather. We had booked the 2:00 p.m. reservation (the online booking only offered 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. time slots), but by 3:00 p.m. our tasting had to be wrapped up. If reservations are limited to one hour, that should be made much clearer during the booking process. To make matters worse, the wine we were most looking forward to tasting was never served. It was only after we asked about it that we were told it had sold out. This is something that should have been communicated before the tasting began, not after we noticed it was missing. We came a long way hoping to share a special winery experience with my parents, but poor communication and the way the experience was managed made the visit far less enjoyable than we had expected. I hope the winery improves its communication and reservation process so future guests have a better experience.

From a purely aesthetic standpoint, this venue is exceptional. Unfortunately, the experience with the coordination team did not match the quality of the venue. There were several preventable issues that impacted the day. One guest table was completely missing during the reception and had to be requested during cocktail hour. Additionally, when timeline questions arose, the couple were told that the DJ should have been coordinating with the venue. While the DJ was not one of the venue's preferred vendors, we felt that facilitating communication between vendors is a fundamental responsibility of a wedding coordinator, regardless of whether those vendors are on a preferred list. There was also a cultural tradition incorporated into the celebration that had been discussed with and approved by the venue in advance. The tradition created dust on the floors and carpet, and the couple apologized and expressed their willingness to cover any necessary cleaning or repair costs. Rather than approaching the situation collaboratively, they received an email afterward that felt unnecessarily harsh and focused solely on this issue, without acknowledging the coordination challenges they experienced throughout the planning process and on the wedding day. This venue has so much potential because the property itself is truly beautiful. However, I believe the coordinators would benefit from additional training in event management, communication, professionalism, and client service. Weddings are significant milestones, and couples should feel supported, respected, and confident that the details they have entrusted to the venue will be handled with care. If you're considering this venue, I would highly recommend it for its beauty. I would also encourage future couples to ask detailed questions about the coordination services provided and to clearly establish expectations in advance.

This was the last stop on my whirlwind tour of most of the distilleries on Distillery Row (minus…read morethe 2 off to the west, and the 2 off to the south). Their normal price is $8 to taste 5 things (fully comped with the passport), so the passport is a particularly good deal here. However, it was another of the annoying ones where I really wanted to taste more than 5 things, as they had a decent selection that all looked interesting. I started off with two of their aquavits - the aged version of their traditional one, which I thought was good but not amazing, and a more uniquely Portland-y one, "ole bjorkevoll", which was absolutely the best aquavit I've had, just ridiculously smooth and ridiculously flavorful (really wish I could've tried the aged version of that second one, but they were temporarily out, unfortunately). I then tried two of their pepper vodkas - a habanero vodka that only had the slightest hint of pepper, more sweet than anything (I got hints of honey and vanilla), and a hotter one that did mostly taste like vodka and hot pepper, but wasn't overpoweringly hot. I thought both of these were, likewise, good but not amazing. Finally, I tried their coffee vodka, which was absolutely fantastic - really tasted properly like drinking 80-proof coffee. Gorgeously smooth, without the sweetness - just this and a cream liqueur with an ice cube, would make a simple but fantastic "cocktail". One of the best coffee spirits I've had, and I've had some pretty good ones. I also had to try one of the mini-cocktails here, because I couldn't possibly imagine aquavit and ginger beer being that great together, but they promised it was, and their aquavit was so good. Turns out yeah, it's pretty fantastic. The place was pretty small, so if you came at a busier time, it'd probably be unpleasantly cramped. It's a bit hidden, though, so I don't know how frequently it gets that busy - I was there on a Saturday late afternoon, and it was fairly quiet, kinda relaxing, really. Got to chat with the owner a bit, too, so that was neat. Note to self: if I'm ever back in Portland, this is one of the ones I have to come back to, so I can try the rest of the stuff I couldn't try this time.

They have a very efficient space where they do all production and bottling, but this leads to a very small tasting room. While the liquor was good, we didn't feel any excitement or passion from the bartender as she was pouring. As opposed to other tasting rooms we have visited where the bartenders describe the spirits, we felt that portion was missing from our visit to Rolling River. There were 2 other parties there while we were there so it's possible that it was difficult for 1 bartender to manage and engage 3 different tastings. Overall, good spirits and worth stopping in! It can be a little difficult to find, but look for the signs to follow the hallway to the tasting room.

Tasting is pricey for what you get (4 wines at 1oz pours) for $20. This fee does not get applied to…read morea purchase, so expect to pony up another $23-40+ for a bottle. I typically enjoying buying a bottle or three, when trying a new place as I like to support local cellars and vineyards. However, at these rates, this will likely be the only time that I taste and purchase as it just isn't a great selling feature in my humble opinion. So, if you go, I recommend purchasing a glass as you will receive more value and perhaps even more enjoyment than what is gained from the tasting.

People around us ordered the full board and it was massive enough for 2 very hungry people or 3/4 people sharing. The staff was amazing! The bread was a little salty for my taste but it's very good. Our server was very very nice and I enjoyed his service. However there was another worker there that I found to be a bit rude. We had already gotten checked in by our server and had asked to sit at the table with the better view and he had already set it up and was just get it g water when another server interrupted us had asked us our name/ info, and claimed we had no reservation (which we did and we even showed her to email to prove it) and we tried to explain to her that we had already been helped and checked in but she was talking over us and ignoring us and saying what we wanted wasn't available even though we already had it.
