We found all the staff at Eagle's Nest to be very pleasant, friendly and accommodating. We had about 15 rigs, and rented one cabin. Paul placed us in sites very near each other, and close to the pavilion which perfectly met our needs for the event. The pavilion near the creek, with electricity, lighting, a nearby restroom, and running water, was a great set-up for our group meetings and meals. Paul even set up a fire ring near the pavilion for our evening campfire and music. The camp facilities were very clean and level, with full services at each site. The restaurant on site (Fireside Inn) has an extensive menu. Try the cauliflower soup ... it is FABULOUS. Eagles Nest is conveniently located near Cumberland, MD - a great local tourism spot with museums, shops, restaurants, and a scenic railroad ride. The campground is still a work in progress and we look forward to going back to see how it is coming along. Paul has a great vision for further improvements and is working hard toward that end. With a mix of seasonal and transient residents, most in self-contained units, there is little need for public facilities. Some in our group might have preferred a public bathhouse (in future development plan), but the lack of a public bathhouse would not prevent our return. Happy trails ...

We had a great experience at Eagle's Nest September 2019, our 39th annual 'Rolling Thunder' rally. The camping, accommodations, food and entertainment were some of the best we have enjoyed. Highly recommend ending your ride here so you can start the next day with the PawPaw tunnel' We were welcomed with a fire pit & wood, a beautiful little suite beautifully painted with wildflower and mountains, WiFi, a French press, huge, clean bathrooms & all sorts of fun reading materials about the two trails. Laundry facilities were sooo welcome due to constant rain & mud. The bike wash was just as essential. Whomever devised this little getaway clearly knew what's up!! THANK YOU!! Check in and out was hassle free -something you need when you're not quite sure what Mother Nature or your bikes (or body) will throw atcha. I would recommend this spot in a heartbeat. Plus? We befriended a father/son team also thruing it on bikes so it was wild to see them 50, 100 miles down the trail! Positive vibes!! Oh, and Big & Tiny's is a must stop!! Our last two camping trips to Rocky Gap were met with neighbors who decided to party until 2am both nights. There is an overwhelming issue with campers not monitoring their children and leaving a lot of trash in the woods. It is not easy to contact rangers for support. Calls go to voice mail with no response. We will likely select a different park for camping going forward.

We spent two nights at Firefly Ridge and absolutely loved it!…read more This summer has been a non-stop heat wave, so we have been unable to get in the amount of camping that we usually do in a normal summer. Luckily, Firefly Ridge has portable coolers inside their tents! This was such a life saver. The tents were cozy and spacious. Our tent had a private Blackstone and a firepit with grill so we had plenty of options for cooking. The bathroom was quite possibly the nicest bathroom that I've seen at a any campground or even other glamping resorts! I highly recommend Firefly Ridge. It is clean, quiet, and they take good care of their guests.

While I'm sure there is excellent hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, camping - etc. - etc. - etc…read more going on here, we just came for the overlook. For years I've seen the signs, the same as everyone that traverses 68, about a scenic overlook, this time, it was finally time to see just how scenic is scenic. First off, super easy to find the overlook. Exit 64 off of 68, this applies to either direction, then it's just two right turns to the main park office. Plenty of offseason parking in winter, as you would expect, and there is good signage telling you where to go for the office, the overlook, outside seasonal restrooms and some of the nearby trails. From there it's maybe a fifty or sixty yard walk down a small sloped path to the wooden planked overlook. Kudos to the staff that even though it had just snowed the day prior, they had a small path cleared so that you could walk out on to the platform. Granted, the platform was also coated in thick ice, but that's another story. Excellent views of the forest landscape and of Fifteen Mile Creek. We didn't last long as even though it was sunny, it was still below freezing with a hell of a stiff breeze. On the way back up the trail we did stop briefly in the park office looking for a map as a souvenir/memento and while the door was open and there was a state vehicle parked outside (just our car and that one), nobody was there so we left as it felt...odd. The park itself is massive and hopefully in the future we can make the time to come back and explore more. Especially since I live in the city being able to have silence is few and far between. GRSF is a gem, you have the bare necessities to have a great authentic camping experience. You can register for a camp site at the self service station. Sign up for a site, pay your money, get camping. Tip*- you must take your trash with you. You can dispose of it at the rangers station Each site has : bench Fire pit Cleared area for tents/hammocks We always stop off at Belle Grove Store- They carry all the essentials and food if you need some grub. This go round we were at site 5. Truly perfect, tons of fire wood around, very quiet and peaceful. Take advantage of this beautiful state forest while the weather is nice!

We highly recommend an evening ride when the heat of the day is gone and you get to enjoy an hour riding through fields and streams. The horses are sweet and fun to ride. The guides were great too.
