Duke Albert is a gem full of gems on Central. I'm so glad I realized that it was NOT a barber and…read morepopped in for some unique shopping. Walking in, I loved the decor which included neon lights and a big State Fair chalk mural (this is a belated review from the summer. RIP, summer). Duke Albert offers an assortment home goods, bath and beauty items, gift, trinquets, and even some vintage clothing from local artists and beyond. I ended up getting a plant hanger, enamel pin, and colorful skirt. Other tempting items of interest: local hand soap, cool candles with metal skeleton cores, silly cheese kit that they found in France, an antique stucco stamp, vintage games and posters. The owners (I assume) were really cool too, providing lots of info and even insight on where they found some of the unique treasures. I'll for sure stop in here periodically when I want something for friends but mostly myself.

Opening the door, the cozy scent of light incense and Palo Santo wafted into my nose. I knew right then it was going to be something a out of the norm. The dimly lid store had a cool, clean, modern mix with bohemian, zen kind of vibe. The kind of store I could personally hang out in for a good hour (or two) just for the smells and all the awesome random finds!! (If only the kids weren't with me today...) While it isn't really a kid geared store- I found something for just about every age group. It's a mix of (extremely clean & crisp) vintage trinkets and clothes, gorgeous more natural lines of personal care, a few beautiful cannabis based things, just funky randomness, classic & modern art, air plants in stellar wall hanging containers, jewelry, (did i mention cool vintage things that were immaculately cleaned??!) well made things I'd like for my next house...it just had a bit of a whole lot of really neat stuff. I'm definitely coming back- again & again. Probably every time I need to find a gift of something a little more unique for some of my cool friends that prefer unique random finds.

Shopping at Patina has always been a cherished part of our outings. Sadly, that tradition came to an abrupt and upsetting end yesterday on Mother's Day. I share this as a warning to others: the Patina team appears more interested in targeting their customers than treating them with dignity or respect. On Mother's Day, the Roseville store manager, Trina, accused my 83-year-old mother of shoplifting-- claiming she saw her steal something several weeks earlier. My mother is one of the kindest, most honest people you could ever meet. She's a retired retail associate who spent over a decade at Herbergers and has never stolen a thing in her life. Trina offered zero proof-- no video, no photo, no name on file. Trina, along with an associate with a judging attitude, showed us one blurry image of a person standing at the counter, photographed from behind, who could've been anyone. Claiming this has some sort of proof. Trina also claimed a police report had been filed and that my mother spoke to police. She gave us a case number. When we contacted the Roseville Police Department, we were told no reports were filed in 2025. The case number Trina gave us referred to a 2024 incident involving a woman with the initials B. W. - not even close to my mother's name. This was a blatant attempt to justify a false accusation and make us go away. I followed up yesterdays incident by emailing the district manager, Karin Tappero, as directed by staff. I did not receive a response. Being wrongly accused and publicly embarrassed-- on Mother's Day, no less -- was incredibly hurtful. It completely overshadowed what was meant to be a joyful day. My mom and I were left shaken, humiliated, and heartbroken. After decades of loyalty, I can't express how degrading and disappointing this experience was. Patina used to be such a fun shop for us to go to together. We will never return to any of their stores and happy to bring our business elsewhere. In today's retail climate, it's astonishing that Patina has no problem alienating and falsely accusing longtime customers. Shoppers deserve better.

There's a large variety of products throughout the store, and they're organized very intuitively. I was super excited my most recent visit to see that they carry several kinds of Smiskis, including hippers. And the prices felt pretty reasonable -- the hipper was about $12, and the normal ones were about $10. They also have one of the largest selections of Jelly Cats I've seen in person. So many things they carry are right up my alley, and it's a great place to spend time just looking at everything.

With that being said, I finally made a visit here Sunday late afternoon on a whim. I started outside before heading inside to see all the other plants and things. Quite the selection inside and outside. I purchased my first hanging basket ever. I'm such a flower person and the hanging basket I got was so pretty. Inside has many different things from bird feeders to nick knacks to pots and candles and many different types of plants. It's well set up and I witnessed staff answering customers questions and offering their assistance. Cost wise I would say everything is fairly priced and some of the plants are so unique that it's a given you need to pay for something like that. Staff I engaged with were nice. Parking is street parking but there's plenty so not stressful. When it's time for me to look for a plant, I'll have to come back.
