She is the first person either on the phone or face to face that you encounter when going to the practice. She called me on Tuesday 1225pm, after my dentures had been dropped off to office at 1030am. No she called me to taunt and harass me that it wld need to be a discussion between them and my counselor regarding how I acted and I was ungrateful/ yea this demented psychopath called me to taunt harass reprimand chastise me while saying lies. The 5 visits I had never had an issue I said what I wanted and what I didn't which is my right I'm the one wearing them. And then when I was told by the dentist they'd be ready that following Wed 9/20. I was asking him due to an upcoming event with myself my children my partner that we had pushed back because of the dental treatment and awaiting the outcome. When I called while stating what I was told she began to get smart and irritated of me asking so I hung up on her I wasn't gonna continue trying to talk to her smart demeaning self. From that when I called the lab and the nice gentleman informed me that they dropped off my case, the dentures and my personal top denture off to the office at 1030am. But again the psychopath never called to tell me that she called to taunt me. I called the Wilmington police aa a civil matter asked them for assistance because the dental office was refusing to give me, the patient, my made for me body part. The officer was in awe and they LIED to the officer and told him the department of labor Voc Rehabilitation had cancelled IT. Cancelled what after I've had this treatment extractions and now the finished product what was cancelled? It was a LIE their psychopath receptionist and whomever else in that office blatantly LIED. Why did she fake speak and say goodbye with my name at each visit? Having limited insurance, I have not seen a dentist in years and it shows (broken teeth, cavities, missing crowns). This week, a crown broke off and that tooth gave sleep-robbing pain all night. I called Wahl when they opened in the morning; despite being a new patient, they welcomed me at the door within the hour. Susan, who answered my call, was there to greet me. We filled out paperwork and she let me know each potential procedure and cost estimates since she knew I was paying cash and couldn't afford anything major. This was done in an understanding, compassionate manner, not the "you better not stiff us, jerk" manner some care facilities utilize when they know you are uninsured. Dr. Peggy and her assistant got me settled in quickly. After a quick x-ray, my tooth was extracted. Dr. Peggy explained each step ahead of time, constantly made sure I was doing okay, and when I wasn't we stopped and made adjustments. Never once did she admonish me for the condition of my mouth. We solely focused on the issue at hand. Checkout was painless, where I was encouraged to look a little closer at my insurance and submit my info anyway to see if any of my appointment could be covered (I submitted this info via e-mail later in the day and received a reply promptly). Before I left, Susan came by with a card detailing the next few things we might want to do (standard checkup, complete x-rays) if and when I have the chance. She provided the cost for each as well, knowing that was a concern. The office is clean, professional, sincerely friendly, and truly caring. On their website, Dr. Wahl explains how his father took much effort to establish a practice that made a difference through their relationship with their patients. It shows. A large function of my job is practicing discretion which, more times than not, means extending grace to others; people are human after all. Something I always keep in mind when addressing a patron is that I have no idea what might be going on in their life...Unfortunately, I cannot say this office extends the same kind of grace to their patients. Most people wouldn't want to receive multiple fillings on their birthday, however, I did because that is what the office had available; no problem at all. It was not the most pleasant experience, but what filling is, as it left me with a substantial amount soreness (to be expected). I was experiencing enough soreness that performing a teeth cleaning less than 24-hours later was no longer ideal so, in addition to a work conflict, I had to reschedule the teeth cleaning to a later date. Unbeknownst to me, that reschedule was now being held against me; according to the receptionist, the reschedule meant I now have a, "history." The day of my rescheduled appointment arrives and to my surprise, life has thrown me a wrench and I'm now running late. As a courtesy and out of respect, I contact the office to let them know I am running late (reasoning not important) and this is when I learn I have a "history" and therefore can no longer see any of the dentist in the Kirkwood group. It did not matter that I apologized, it did not matter why I had to cancel the first time, it did not matter that I was Not cancelling this time, it did not matter that I had to leave work to care for my dog because no one else could and therefore accepted the consequences of being 20 minutes late- it did not matter that I was a human being having a human-"Life"-moment; none of this mattered to the receptionist who plainly let me know that it is the "discretion of the office to no longer accept me as a patient." While disappointed the office chose to be rigid, I accept my consequences and will find another dentist. It's likely for the best as I am not a big fan of robots. If you are looking for an office where the staff are human beings capable of grace and compassion, you're in the wrong place. Never forget, "Rules are rules" has killed millions of people. Humanity is greater.
