AVA Cancun Review
We recently stayed at AVA Cancun in a Friends & Family Oceanfront Suite, and overall our trip had many wonderful moments, beautiful views, and some truly outstanding staff members who made us feel cared for.
The resort itself is visually impressive. The lobby and common areas are beautiful, the oceanfront views from our suite were lovely, and the pool areas gave us plenty of places to relax as a family. We especially enjoyed the atmosphere in the evenings, the dining experiences, and the convenience of having so much available on property.
Several team members absolutely deserve recognition. At Dez Pool, Manuel and David were fantastic bartenders, and Juan and Erick were wonderful pool attendants. Rogelio at Chez Moi took excellent care of us on two different nights. Ivan at Black Iron Steakhouse gave us great service. Fernando at Legendary breakfast was excellent, and Andy and Gaston during the Legendary presentation were kind and professional. At the coffee shop, Oscar and Aracely were standouts. Carlos at the front desk was helpful, Cristian with airport transfer was great, and Joshua and Alejandro from bell services were also excellent. These staff members were the heart of our stay, and they deserve every bit of praise.
That said, there were some bumps during our stay. While AVA is a newer property, there were areas that already felt more worn than expected. Some finishes and details did not quite reflect what we anticipated from a newer luxury resort. Nothing ruined the trip, but it was noticeable enough that it stood out, especially given the branding and price point.
The biggest issue involved a spa treatment for our son. He had a sunburn, so we booked what we understood to be a sun-soothe/sunburn treatment using resort credits. Instead, it appears he received a massage-type treatment with oils, and he reacted to the products used on his skin. We did report the issue. We chose not to pursue a medical evaluation through the resort, but we did hope the mistaken treatment would be reviewed and adjusted or refunded. That experience was disappointing, especially because it happened near the end of the trip.
We also had an issue with our balcony door not closing one evening, which was stressful at the time, especially while trying to keep our son comfortable. Maintenance did come quickly, which we appreciated.
Overall, AVA Cancun has a lot going for it: beautiful spaces, great views, good dining, and some truly exceptional employees. The staff members who helped us throughout the trip are the reason I would still speak positively about the stay. I do think communication, follow-through around service issues, spa accuracy, and upkeep of guest-facing areas could be improved.
A beautiful resort with some fantastic people, but for a newer luxury property, I expected a little more polish and stronger problem resolution. read more
