I am so glad not to have ever fully moved into Atria. I signed up and was waiting for a few weeks…read morefor my furniture to arrive, so I went into my unit to prepare it. There were sugar and food crumbs in the kitchen cabinets, the microwave vents and stove were filthy with grease, there were ants in one of the toilets and the other one intermittently and randomly ran. And this was supposed to be move-in ready. I realized that I was feeling sick every time I stayed more than half an hour in the apartment, even with the sliding door open. Walking down the main hallway past the dining room, there was usually liquid or food on the floor. The garbage and recycling bins had food spilling down the front. It was just a very unclean place altogether. Then after I decided not to stay and went elsewhere, paying the required 30 days notice rent, a full year went by and then I got a collection notice in the mail for $186.00. This was without EVER hearing a peep from Atria until then. It took about five phone calls for them to actually tell me what the charge was for (one extra day apparently as I gave notice on New Year's). Karinna was kind and clearly cared about the welfare of the residents, but in every other way my experience was pretty horrifying.

This is a brief addendum update re my parents' final days and care given. Since I would not move…read morefrom the East coast to care for them, my parents utilized my 2 West Coast siblings both male. I had just started a job out East, and finally was able to fly in exactly 24 hours before she died. I was horrified at the size, dinginess depression of her " room". It was not clean, nor orderly- - like a middle income hospital room. Horrific! My siblings had flown in 3-4 days earlier looking for documents then left 2 days before she died. Mom had colon cancer her last 6 months and completely set up her hospice directive to remain in her apt at the end. She was the Office Mngr at the Scarsdale Medical Clinic and also had been their chief medical insurance mngr for 20 years. They lived in the Heathcote section of Scarsdale from 1958 to 1980. Dad was at Einstein. Years earlier mom had POA of Dad's elder cousin and had spoken up often re all inconsistencies problems with the cousin's care to mngt at the Care Center. She was not popular with them. Her last 3 months were terrible. They completely disregarded her directives and placed her with another woman in a tiny room. Three feet to a separating curtain, barely enough room on three sides. The fourth side with just enough room for 2 chairs. She never was in her own beautiful apartment as written in her hospice directive.... she was 100 % lucid, cognizant ( could not speak) to the end. She was having problems breathing through her open mouth, so I had the one ( male) nurse who had to monitor 2 floors solo in the Care Center, come and suction out her mouth/ throat. The rest of the staff were nurses aids. He rushed in, definitely not happy. Grabbed her hard, fast , lifting her under her head with one arm ( feet off the ground), then forced the nozzle into her open mouth suctioning for what seemed like forever! So long I felt she could not breathe! She also had a terrible fall 1 -2 years earlier and almost cracked her neck. So her neck was still fragile. He finally stopped and left. Her formerly peaceful breathing was now very very weak and she died an hour later. A COMPLETE horrific nightmare! Dad had an even worse ending 3 years later, also in the Care Center. He was living too long, over 103 years old. They decided to move him out of memory care where he had been over 3 years, into the final stage at the Care Center. He was very very healthy ALL his life, a doctor. The doctor prescribed him a medication and in 3 weeks he lost 25 pounds ( very tall, very thin always) and he suddenly died shortly after. I was informed of all this after he died. You MUST must have family locally who visit often....

Assisted living in San Diego, California…read more.. My father's cousin is going to be 93 years old in a few months. She's quite independent and is still mentally sharp. However, the body needs some physical help - like taking a bath, cooking meals, doing laundry, etc For piece of mind, my aunt lives at Brookdale. The staff are very nice and check on her to make sure that she remembers daily tasks such as coming to the dining room, taking her medication, and more. She has a private room and bathroom. The big screen TV that my cousin installed is great! She enjoys her puzzle books, letter writing, and chatting with her family. I'm so glad that Aunty is staying at a nice, safe place! It's makes me want to visit her more because there's no foul odors, temperature checks are done upon entry, and aunty's room feels like her old home!

I'm writing this as I've visited numerous senior care places both as part of my job and just recently, on behalf of a friend of ours. I love to acknowledge good service and kindness and it was easy as baking a cake. I was impressed with the flexibility of the administrative staff; as our friend needed to cancel an appointment, then he rescheduled twice for a tour. The receptionist, Stacey, went above and beyond the call to find and deliver some delicious food without a reservation. Ashley was both direct yet gentle when doing a health assessment, and the chef also was most accommodating. Last, not least, both Marisa and Audrey S. were the icing on the cake as they made us feel welcome and look forward to coming back!

My father lived here until his passing, about 3 years, and while i went to visit him I was amazed…read moreat how terrible the conditions were, the carpet in the hallways was stained and smell of urine was lasting in the halls. I mentioned it to the staff there but they have yet to clean the carpets, I was also surprised by nursing staff at the facility, some people are not cut out to helping the elderly, they need to have patience, and treat the people that live there with some time of respect. I would not recommend this place. I also called to speak with the manager about the experience, but neither EJ Lewis, nor Andre still have time to contact me. I left my email and phone number for follow up. About some of the issues I mentioned, but recently attempted to have my lawyer call them about some of the concerns, again doesn't appear that anyone wants to talk to me about it. So I just decided to start leaving this review online in several different places. Maybe someone in upper management will return my calls.

The entire length of his stay, the nurses and staff always took really good care of him, and made his last few years as comfortable as possible, even when they were short staffed... When dad first moved in, everything was top notch... but after about 18 months, I started to notice that things were going down hill... The staff, who were always amazing, were way under staffed, and Emily, the gal who was in charge of everything, was really doing a number on the place... None of the staff were happy, and when many of them moved on to work at other facilities, it was a huge loss to Novellus.... I was at the point where I was looking for a new place for pops... Luckily, Emily was let go several months ago, and replaced by EJ ... Since then, EJ , Shayla and Elizabeth have really turned the place around, and into the place that my dad moved into in the first place!!! My dad had a rough last 4 months, but the love and care from all of the nurses like Michelle, Sylvia, Perla, Elka, Minerva, Antonia, Sam, Cristina and several others, really made a difference, as they all had a way of getting my pops to smile!!! I was there every night to see my dad, and I got to know all of the staff well... The ones that have been there for a while, combined with the ones that were recently hired with the new management, are all amazing!!! And while there was a decline for a minute, I would highly recommend Novellus for your loved one!

I can only…read moreimagine this is where the beautiful perfumes of the world come from, because the fragrance is intoxicatingly prevalent. In our case, we immediately were transfixed by it as soon as we exited my Benz to view these incredibly perfect roses. What a magnificent sight to behold and scents to inhale! Paths and walkways, all lined with gorgeous roses. The roses are a wonderful perk for each resident, who receives a rose bush as a gift. For some, it appears they have more than one...labeled with their name(s) on them. The practice of each resident receiving a rose bush began when a lady who loved roses, and was an avid gardener, thought it would be a nice idea, so she turned the wheels to set the practice in place. How cool is that!?! I learned of this from some of the residents, who are very active outside with their walkers. Many came outside on this beautiful day to enjoy it, get some exercise, and chat with people such as the likes of us along the way. This is a retirement community. Everyone we talked to was so nice. They were happy and appeared to be very well taken care of. They all spoke of how much they love where they live. I've taken pics of some of the glorious standouts, but I highly suggest you view this beauty firsthand during this particular time in the Spring. I can't speak for the inside of the residences themselves, as the only thing I learned was what I gleaned from their website listed here. The video shows a glorious ocean-view environment for the very lucky residents. Apparently, a 1 bedroom, 1-1/2 bath with 753 square feet rents for $7,325.00 per month. "This is the place", they say. If you are an aging billionaire living in La Jolla, California. Enjoy the roses I've snapped for you and all the other beautiful flowers at Casa de Manana. It is truly a marvel.
