My mom has been living at Atria La Jolla for five months. She enjoys the friendly community -…read moreresidents and staff. Eating a variety of well-prepared, healthy meals in the restaurant is a delight -- it is a pleasure not to cook! Common areas for residents are welcoming, clean and stair-free. Proximity to Doyle Park for walking is a treat. Atria's staff are kind and eager to serve residents. I stayed with my mom for one week in August 2022. I found it easy to meet residents and learn about their life experiences. We filed maintenance orders at the front desk for minor repairs in her apartment (change a smoke alarm battery, replace a bathroom sink stopper, replace a valve in a shower faucet). Maintenance technicians were responsive. One Saturday evening, I joined my mom for a concert at Atria by a local singer, Peggy Sue, who specializes in pop music from the 1940s and 1950s. During this performance, my mom sparkled as she told me the songs reminded her of listening to the radio as a young person. My mom, sister and I appreciate email updates to Atria's residents and families from the executive director, Karinna Topete, about important community events - celebrations, building maintenance, staff changes and vaccination opportunities. My mom tells me and my sister that moving to Atrial La Jolla is a wonderful choice.

There were sugar and food crumbs in the kitchen cabinets, the microwave vents and stove were filthy with grease, there were ants in one of the toilets and the other one intermittently and randomly ran. And this was supposed to be move-in ready. I realized that I was feeling sick every time I stayed more than half an hour in the apartment, even with the sliding door open. Walking down the main hallway past the dining room, there was usually liquid or food on the floor. The garbage and recycling bins had food spilling down the front. It was just a very unclean place altogether. Then after I decided not to stay and went elsewhere, paying the required 30 days notice rent, a full year went by and then I got a collection notice in the mail for $186.00. This was without EVER hearing a peep from Atria until then. It took about five phone calls for them to actually tell me what the charge was for (one extra day apparently as I gave notice on New Year's). Karinna was kind and clearly cared about the welfare of the residents, but in every other way my experience was pretty horrifying.

I successfully underwent spinal surgery and I am able to walk for the first time in months. My injury had forced me to use a walker before my operation. I moved into the model apartment and bought all the very tastefully appointed furnishings. The staff is exceptional and I enjoy the most delicious food, three times a day and even frequently use their room service delivery when I do not choose to dine in their beautiful dining room our outside dining on their extensive porch area. What's more, I have housekeeping keep my place immaculate and even use their internal laundry service to was my clothes. There are many private and pretty places and I can choose to either socialize or enjoy my privacy...my choice. Everyone, the staff and other residents are bright and kind. I thought to only remain long enough to recover from my back injury and recuperation and even have a very expensive rental home in Bird Rock (La Jolla) to move back to but....I cancelled that lease only today and intend to remain as a Chateau La Jolla resident.

One really important thing to consider is, this is NOT an assisted l living facility, they are senior living and apartments. The only downside would be the seals and sea lion smell! I can barely handle that stench for very long. My parents love museums, art, culture and anything creative! Not super close to me, like next door but also not far away! The rooms are pretty nice, maybe a little small but not terrible or anything. Def will consider this one for sure. So many to look at! Prob look at 5-10 more places for them. Def recommend Casa Manana if you can handle the smell. haha

The property appears extremely run-down and poorly maintained, with chipped paint, worn-down walls, and an overall neglected appearance. What could have been a beautiful experience is completely overshadowed by the condition of the establishment. The atmosphere inside does not come close to matching the beauty of its surroundings. It's disappointing to see such a beautiful location being let down by a place that clearly needs significant attention and upkeep.

What a gorgeous place to retire in! My friend's apartment is really stunning - very modern, spacious, and with high ceilings and a patio. The landscaping is beautiful; people can easily walk to the dining room or to one of the many activities they have; and if you become less mobile, they have golf carts that will pick you up. The also send meals to people's apartments if they are unable to walk. The chaplain was super cool; they have lectures and film screenings; and the food was pretty decent! The patio was lovely, and inside lots of people were dining with friends. They have a daily special and then a regular menu. We got the soup of the day first (potato leek) which was yummy, and then I had a decent mushroom swiss omelette. They didn't have Dijon mustard, but servers were very nice, and they unfold your napkins like you're in fine dining. My friend also loves the dog park, and the beautiful old trees on the property, and the views of the ocean and PB are stunning. And we saw friends of his along the way too, and he told me about some of the other very accomplished and interesting residents. Looks like a great place to retire if you can afford it! (though it is way up on a hill, so if you're driving yourself, be prepared for the way up to be winding).
