After 4 or 5 emergency jumps to my car in the past 2 months, I finally decided to replace my car battery. Feeling very reluctant about going to an auto store without a knowledgeable car person, I dragged my Mazda to Autozone, which recently opened near my place. I was immediately greeted by both employees and received help from one named Melvin. Now back to my reluctance about going to auto stores, I've found that the sales people try to push products on me or try to get me to buy the most expensive thing, knowing that I am clueless about car stuff. Melvin was very honest, showed me all my options, didn't persuade me into buying anything I didn't need, and was all around a super helpful and nice guy. He and the other employees helped change the battery. There is no extra charge for this service! Came in today and needed help with screwing my new Washington plates onto my car. Luis went above and beyond! Customer service was great but knowledge of how to test batteries & alternators was terrible. I ended up stranded 40 miles away and had to have my car towed home after I was told my alternator was fine (it wasn't). The kid didn't even have me turn on my car when he tested it - which I thought was odd. They told me it was my battery that was dead (it wasn't) so I purchased a new one. When I got there, I was greeted immediately by Fred J. He tested my battery and determined that it was bad. I purchased a new one and Fred J. had me up and running in less than 15 mins total. During the whole process from greeting to testing to selling/purchasing to installation to farewell, Fred J. made my visit a very special one with his insight and friendliness. I will never go to another auto parts store. Vern displayed the essence of customer service. He went above and beyond. I went in to get parts for a tune up a friend was doing for me in hopes of fixing a miss in my prelude. Vern immeadiately asked what was going on with the car, and then proceeded to come out, spend a good 15-20 minutes poking around, and gave me his opinion(which happened to be the same diagnosis the my friend gave me). He got all the parts together that i needed, and even explained a bit about how they worked(as i am relatively automotively retarded, although trying to fix that). Bottom line being, this guy is a class act. I wish more people would take the time to help their customers in this fashion. read more

Horrible experience. I went to buy an alternator for my car to have my mechanic install in my vehicle. My mechanic gets a commercial discount and told me to go here so I could purchase the part for cheap and then he would install it. Due to my schedule conflicts, this was the only time I could get the part. Not only was this autozone an hour bus ride from me, it was not very friendly at all. I asked if I could use the commercial acct number provided to me but the employee said my mechanic needs to come in. I told him it was physically impossible due to schedule conflicts and that I needed the part today. As soon as this happened I got my mechanic on the phone, but they refused to speak to him. Then some jackass who thought his shit didn't stink came out to talk to me in an incredibly rude and condescending way. His co worker came out and stood arms crossed, almost like they were trying to intimidate me. I felt like I was being accused of fraud when all I was trying to do was buy a dang alternator for my mechanic to install. I decided to leave and just go to O'Reillys next door, who was miles ahead of Autozone for customer service. Never go to auto zone!!!!!!!! read more

I went there to check the battery and replace it if needed. The kid was helpful, but apparently did not have an idea of where the battery is located in my BMW or how to change it, but offered to do so. He hooked up a back up battery as memory to keep the computer from resetting while replacing the battery, which actually blew a few fuses and generated random error codes. New battery replaced, the instrument panel wont light up and the iDrive system gives warning not to drive due to serious safety issue including steering, 4x4, transmission and brake systems. The worst part started here: the kid goes in to the store to ask the manager what to do now, he replies tell the customer that "this happens with BMWs, just drive away and it will be fine by itself!" What?! I tell him I probably know where the problem is, we need to start by finding the fuses that were blown due to incorrect wiring while replacing batteries, then we need to check the codes, verify issues and clear them. The kid has no idea where the fuse box is, so I help him locate the blown fuses and replace them (5A and 20A fuses for instrument panel). He then goes in to bring the code reader to figure out the error codes. He doesn't come back. After half an hour, I go after him but the manager says he already went home and there is nothing more they can do! I ask them for the code reader but they refuse. Ended up leaving my driving license with them to borrow the code reader and go through error codes one by one by myself. Turns out the incorrect wiring had also resulted in onboard computer to lose track of the wheels and transmission, but the systems were not actually damaged. After googling the solution, I clear the codes, return the code reader, get my driver license and finally drive home, thinking what would have happened if it was a less experienced customer. Stay away from them if you need minor electrical help or expect customer service. read more

people, if you are looking for 50% lower prices better inventory, better computer system and better service than their competitor across the block.. auto zone is the place. my car broke down, it was late and we were in a tough situation having the car up and running by morning. we went to the competitor first: no parts, no service... much higher prices. under desperate circumstances we had to be stubborn.. and were fortunate enough to find Auto Zone by Fred Meyer on 185-th and Aurora! thank you for saving our night!! both times there ,night shift employees were more than helpful and knowledgeable and earned life long customer and will spread the good word! thank you all employees on this snowy tough time of year on us and cars you are the best thanks much David Aslett and friends january 12 2011 read more

Called pretty early in the AM, and got a very nice man who seemed eager to help. Especially considering the hour, he was very nice and willing to look up prices for all the parts that I needed. He also immediately offered to put them on hold for me, which was awesome because most other places don't have them in stock. Learned from my mechanic today that my battery was failing. I knew that it was still covered under AutoZone warranty. I called AutoZone, the rep. looked up the warranty, and confirmed that it was still in effect. He told me I could bring the car in for a battery "swap" and that they could help me remove/replace it. When I arrived I spoke with a different customer service rep. - a tall burly stone-face guy around 30. This rep. seemed skeptical that my battery would test poorly and he seemed irritated that he even had to go outside to test it. Once the battery was tested, he flatly told me "Take it out of the car by loosening the nuts." "Do you have tools?" No. I asked which battery terminal to remove first for safety and he basically backed away and went inside the store. Then he left a set of pliers on the counter. At this time, there were two employees in the store and no other customers. While I didn't need this guy to go out of his way, his failure to provide simple information (remove the black terminal first and reconnect it last) or to state something like "Sorry, AutoZone policy is for employees to avoid any involvement beyond selling the part to customers." or "it might be best for you to return to the store when you have tools - corroded bolts can be a lot of trouble to remove" Instead I spent half an hour in a parking lot struggling to remove the battery in the dark with the crappy pliers. When I brought it inside, his only remark was "Cash or charge?" 'WHAT is the TOTAL?' i asked. Again, he seemed irritated that he had to answer even that simple question. The "swap" wasn't cheap but so what. This guy's irritated and unhelpful attitude is why I will never visit Shoreline AutoZone again! read more
