I've been to this location a few times in the past year and have never had an issue.
My best experience was a few days ago with Larry. I knew what ratchet size & extender I was looking for to remove tough bolts around a dead battery; and he suggested something that might be simpler (though I had already tried it-the flat side had the size I needed the extender for). I told him my plan of bringing it in to recycle it & get a new one. He informed me that they could attempt to recharge it first as a free service before spending the money on a new one, which was something new I didn't realize!
I returned a short while later to drop off the battery for recharging (positive it wouldn't work, but why not). The other associate working said it would take about an hour, so I told him to just call me when it's done. I never did get a call & lost track of time a bit. When I got back shortly before closing, it turns out they had been very busy, too. (Perhaps the associate didn't hear me or forgot to call?)
Nevertheless, Larry brought it right up when he saw me & tested it in front of me to show it wasn't holding a charge. I told him I want the absolute cheapest replacement (it's my dad's old '96 Lincoln that we're trying to sell or trade & will probably be used as scrap metal anyway; but if it's running we get a higher price). He suggested the official cheapest match at $100 (what is in his system-just doing his job). I pointed out that I saw one on their website for about $70. He showed me his system screen that none of the local stores within 45 miles had it in stock because it's being discontinued & they're just trying to get rid of that inventory. Then he suggested a couple of their generic brand on sale; but he couldn't guarantee they would work with my vehicle since their system doesn't list it. We matched a few up to the original battery & found one w/ very similar specs. For the one spec that was different, he checked the system to see what the minimum requirements were for the car, and it did match. Again, he said he couldn't promise it would work, but I could return it if it doesn't. I tried matching some new bolts, too, (and Larry was very kind being that I was dragging into after store closing hours. I really didn't find the bolt types/sizes I was looking for easily. He did suggest one set that I didn't think was a close enough match, but decided to try it anyway. Then even though I already had some, he included the felt rings because it would give me an extra discount. Overall, I spent less than $70 (and did end up returning the bolts the next day, so closer to $60) & the battery worked beautifully!
I really appreciated that he took the time to truly help, give suggestions, match up batteries that aren't suggested in the system, and showed patience. I'm so used to doing things myself, that I was even impressed when he carried the new battery out to the car for me (which I knew they would do if I asked, but I wasn't expecting it). Overall, it was one of those great customer service experiences that didn't make the store profit a lot in that time, but it did bring me back to buy other things I needed later, which profits them more in the long run. I wish more people & stores would use this philosophy! read more
