Relying on strangers is always a crapshoot and finding an honest auto shop is, unfortunately, like finding a needle in a haystack. I didn't ask them to look at it; my car was there for exhaust work. Now I wonder if it really needed the full muffler replacement that cost $380. UPDATE, 2 days later: Mavis/Cole contacted me based on this review, and my husband was separately contacted after giving severe feedback in the customer satisfaction survey he got after this service. Mavis/Cole has reimbursed us for the full cost of the PSF replacement. The store and regional manager apologized for this happening and agreed it should not have been done. (I pointed out that I have a Mavis/Cole receipt from a couple years ago showing that they recommended changing the PSF just 6,000 miles after it had been done at the dealership, when obviously it was not needed--so I think this is an ongoing issue. Caveat emptor!)

This in my opinion is the best auto parts shooter in the city of Ithaca…read more Prices are competitive, the store is fairly new. But most importantly is that the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. These guys know automotive and products. Who you hire shows through instantly and this store has done a good job. Don't expect someone behind the counter who can only look up parts they sell on a computer screen. These guys actually have turned a wrench/ nut in their lives. They have an idea how things are engineered and go together. they also seem to know the products they sell not just what they have but also what works best and what is garbage. They are willing to pass on that information even if what they are selling isn't that great. I feel respected here. A lot of the other parts store locally seem to employ people who don't k ow the first thing about automotive work or cars at all. Thumbs up O Reilly !!! I said yes, thinking the cost would be worth the time it would take me to go buy the bulb and figure out how to install it. The oil change with the bulb replacement was $160. If that wasn't bad enough when I got home I realized the light on the back wasn't even installed properly. I went back to the shop to get it fixed, something that took 30 seconds. This was insane to me. A task that they initially billed .3 hours for to take 30 seconds to redo told me I was being exorbitantly overcharged. I was able to get a refund on the bulb but I feel as though they thought I wasn't smart and didn't understand I was being scammed. Do not go to Patterson's! I will not be returning and nor should you !!
