They can get unusual stuff, maybe beat eBay prices and be reliable at the same time. Sure, image is important but if you peer over the counter back in the aisles you may be able to see considerably higher organization and cleanliness than in front. For bored-looking guys, I suspect that if you and I knew we would both be amazed at the dollar volume these low-key total professionals turn. It's almost always one or two phone calls away - because they know who to call. And those old things in the yellowed packaging? They don't make a lot of that stuff anymore, particularly the specialized tools and if you can use it, it's gold. I have to admit that I'm old school - my first real job was in a jobber like this one many decades ago. There aren't many treasures like this left. So relax; ask and listen to what they tell you and ask some more if you need to. You don't need to be perfect, if you want a "10" fuse maybe something about what kind of car it fits and what year would help you both succeed.They *are* friendly if you be, too, and they might even come alive if you ask nicely for their advice or recommendation that will be backed by mondo experience. If you have a car it is likely you'll be back - why not introduce yourself? And yes, I've stood at the counter for what seemed like forever while they took the time needed to solve someone else's problem, but I knew I'd get the same attention if I needed it. And while I was waiting I picked up a trade mag and learned about current tech on alternator overrun pulleys, another time found a tool I needed and they had the best price. No, I'm not still in the auto trade, just a geek with some old cars I'm very fond of. And anytime we undertake a repair on anything, isn't it always against all odds? Exploded, in the way that E46 cooling systems eventually do, because BMW in its infinite German wisdom decided to make critical cooling components out of plastic that becomes brittle after fifteen years and then shatters without warning while you're deciding between organic and conventional blueberries and wondering why "baby" bok choy here were the size of my fist. AAA towed it. The dispatcher pulled up the list of nearby shops and Wise Auto Tech had the best ratings and could look at it that day, which on a Friday afternoon in the Bay Area is the mechanical equivalent of getting a same-day dermatologist appointment. It also happened to be blocks from my Berkeley pied-à-terre, which felt like the universe apologizing for the parking lot coolant geyser. Not much to say beyond the basics, and in a shop review the basics are everything: they were friendly from the moment I walked in. They finished the job the next business day. The bill came in at the low end of what I'd been quoted online by other shops, which in 2026 -- a year in which every dollar has been asked to do the work of about a dollar forty -- matters more than it should. I felt slightly guilty asking about the 10% AAA labor discount, the way you always feel slightly guilty asking for a discount from people who are clearly already being fair, but they didn't bat an eye. Here's the detail that stuck with me: when I picked the car up, I noticed they'd plugged in a loose fog light wire -- something that had come undone during an ill-advised encounter with a parking block weeks earlier, something I hadn't mentioned, something that had nothing to do with the cooling system. They saw a loose wire and they plugged it in. That's the kind of thing that tells you more about a shop than any Yelp rating ever could. It means someone under that hood was actually looking, not just fixing the thing they were paid to fix and closing the hood and moving on. Quick, friendly, honest, reasonably priced, and fastidious. That's the whole list of things you want from a mechanic, and most shops manage two or three of them on a good day. Wise hit all five. Recommended.

I needed the installation done, as I was in the process of giving the car to my daughter. I no longer drive a car. What happened to me over 20 years ago is a complicated one. I became too nervous to drive. The appointment was on March 14, 2025 at 11 AM. Albert Ng was my advisor. He thoroughly inspected my vehicle and told me additional work needed to be done. Windshield wipers were worn, bulb for the rear window brake light was out and the four tires were worn. I gave him the okay to replace the wipers, the bulb and the four tires. The car wasn't ready for pick up until Monday, March 18. My daughter and I arrived at 4:45 PM. However, we had to wait another hour to get the car. I can only guess the employees were still working on the car. What was the cost for the labor and parts for my car? It was about $787. Thank goodness I had the funds to pay instead of putting it on my credit card. Thank you, Albert, for assisting us. We are grateful for a job well done. Finally, our next step is a visit to AAA to do the transfer of ownership.
