IF YOU LIKE BEING TREATED LIKE YOU'RE STUPID, THEN AUTOSOURCE IN WINDSOR IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!: However, if like most of us, you care about having the respect you deserve as an intelligent and informed customer, you'd be better off somewhere else. Here's my story:
I needed to purchase an affordable car and AutoSource seemed to offer what I was looking for at a price that seemed to be fair. However, dealing with the high pressure sales person on staff made me feel very uncomfortable. They low-balled my trade-in and when I told them what I could afford for a monthly payment, they came back with an offer for credit that was $50.00 more than what I told them I could afford. I was ready to walk away, but then the sales person did that shenanigans thing where they go "talk to the manager" and then miraculously come back with another offer for credit that was the payment that I was looking for (WOW!).
Then, they demanded to see a color copy of my social security card as well as my cell phone bill and another utility bill. Unnecessary!
Oh, and the payment that they offered me included GAP Insurance and an extended service plan/warranty type thing that she told me was "required by the bank" in order to get approved. The sales person didn't know that I used to work in the consumer lending, so I know that requiring a customer to purchase GAP and/or an extended warranty as a condition for credit approval is called coercion. In most situations, coercion may be illegal, but is definitively unprofessional and immoral. Also, all they sell at AutoSource is salvaged titles (what they colloquially refer to as "branded titles"), a fact that the sales person did not disclose until the very end of my application. In many situations, extended warranties, service plans and GAP will not cover salvage titles, or will cover them at a reduced benefit. Therefore, they are selling a service that potentially is of little or no value to the customer (see other reviews about loopholes in the service plan...)
Anyway, I walked away and went to CARMAX in Loveland. Carmax sold me a car for the same price as the car at AutoSource. The car at CARMAX had one minor accident, whereas the AutoSource car was a salvage title. The CARMAX car had heated leather seats, the AutoSource car had cloth seats. The CARMAX car has a sunroof, the AutoSource car did not. Also, CARMAX offered TWICE the amount for my trade! And, they approved me for a monthly payment that was $80.00 less than the AutoSource!
By the way, I did buy an extended service plan from CARMAX, but the sales person there presented it to me as an option, not a requirement and explained to me the value and benefits of the plan and how it will cover the vehicle for an additional 40,000 miles beyond the remaining factory warranty. I did not buy GAP from CARMAX because it is available as a rider on my regular car insurance for about $4.00 a month.
So, if you like having your intelligence insulted, go to AutoSource. But if you're looking for VALUE and a nice used car at a fair price offered by a professional staff who respect you, then go to CARMAX! read more
