Then 3 hours later they get back to me and I asked that they still come. The issue with my car was concerning back brake lights that would not turn off and were draining the battery. The mechanic inspected and diagnosed that I needed my brake light switch replaced (also back brake light bulbs were burned out). He quoted me $420-$460 to fix it (that price included the $140 inspection and fuel surcharge fee). That sounded crazy to me so I just paid the $140 base fee said forget it, don't do the repair. I did some research on YouTube and checked out the situation myself, and it turned out to be just the rubber bumper piece that depresses the switch that had rotted and I was able to replace it with a bolt and washer I had on-hand for free. And anyway, if it had been a bad switch, that part only costs $10-$20. I'm pissed that the guy was going to over-charge me and I can't help but think it was because I'm a woman.

She went to pick it up and they had done nothing to the car. C. M. Told her the tires ( which only had about 36k on them) were worn / damaged to the point of that it was no use to rotate them. And they were so unsafe they could not even have the leaking tire ( the original problem repaired. For back ground, I am myself a 30 + year mechanic. I keep my cars in pretty good shape. Especially the one my loved ones drive daily. Instead Chris chose to put my wife back out on the street with a potentially dangerous condition in her vehicle. Basically, because she would not commit to new tires til i looked at them. I just got home and jacked the car and rotated the rear tire. Lucas first, don't top off fluids except washer fluid, only use manual tools and not drills, etc. the guys who work here have ALWAYS abided by my instructions without hesitation. They don't ever make me feel like a nuisance or burden and are always very polite and professional. Today was no different. Nick worked on my Mercedes to get my oil change done and then Derek worked on my new tire installation. Between the pleasant conversations, not ever trying to rip me off because I'm a female, and their overall politeness and ability to work on my cars the way I want them to, I will continue coming back year after year and bringing all of my cars here ranging from the more normal ones to the imports. They do have a pretty high turnover rate of workers, so just as I get to know one set of them, a new set arrives, but every single set of guys has been very helpful and respectful. I would absolutely recommend this shop, ESPECIALLY to females, because they won't try to rip you off like most shops around here will try to do just because they think you don't know what you're talking about and are an easy target. I also always bring in my own oil and filters (and even my own tires) and they have no issues using MY equipment, which many shops in the area will refuse to do. If you're hesitant, don't be. Lack of transparency and unauthorized cost increase!…read more Before reporting the terrible service I received, I want to make one thing very clear: the employees were polite and respectful at all times. My issue is not about attitude, it is about lack of transparency, which for me is the most important factor when choosing a mechanic. Yesterday around 10:00 a.m., I took my car to Christian Brothers Automotive (Lakeland, TN) with a known issue. I clearly stated that I wanted only the replacement of the alternator belt. I received a quote of US$380, was informed the service could be completed the same day, and I approved it. Later that day, I was informed that due to workload, the car would be ready the following day. I understood and had no issue with that. This morning, I received a call informing me that the price had changed from US$380 to US$950, an increase of US$570 (more than 150%). I did not approve the new price. I was then told that was fine and that I could pick up my car because the service was already completed. What do you mean? This is where the problem becomes serious. The shop performed a service that did not fully resolve the issue, even after I refused to approve the additional cost. In other words, I was expected to pay for incomplete work, and if I wanted the problem fully resolved, I would have to pay an additional US$570. In my view, proper and transparent business practice would require informing the customer of any additional necessary repairs before performing any work, and obtaining explicit approval prior to proceeding. If approval is not granted, no partial or incomplete service should be performed. To make matters worse, after picking up the car, I noticed a strong burning smell and smoke coming from the engine, which raises serious safety concerns and the risk of fire. This experience was extremely disappointing. Due to the lack of transparency, unauthorized cost increase, incomplete service, and safety concerns, I DO NOT RECOMMEND CHRISTIAN BROTHERS IN LAKELAND, TN!

I figured it had developed a parasitic leach so I researched how to diagnose and fix it, but the task seemed pretty time consuming, and I knew it would take me forever. So, I took it to Christian Brothers Automotive on Houston Levee. They took fantastic care of me. Jeff, the mechanic who was assigned to my truck, put in a lot of time and effort to find the leach (which turned out not to be any ordinary problem). And David kept me updated everyday with what they found, or didn't find. Their level of customer service was outstanding. Ultimately, Jeff found that a wire had not been secured properly (another mechanic at a different shop) and the insulation rubbed off, so the wire was making contact with some metal which was causing my battery to discharge. After this, they have a customer for life. Great guys.
