Some of them were legit and I had the issues fixed, but some of the things were using his magical headlight defogger at over $100 for the service! I took it to a new shop and had the work done there. If you really want someone to help you with your car/truck troubles or you need an expert opinion this is absolutely the wrong place to go. I had AC issues and I went to them couple of times and both times they procrastinated by saying either they did not have an expert available or fixing it would take a long while. I got another specific appointment for a day they agreed was good to have it looked at and rectify (I have a Honda Accord '06). They came back saying everything from the refrigerant to the compressor need to be replaced and gave me a $925 quote! There was a separate quote with original parts which went up to $3000 I don't exactly remember the number. Needless to say, I took it to another place and they just replaced the refrigerant liquid and it seems to work absolutely fine. Unfortunate that they had to be dishonest about something so basic. I had a huge list of things that needed to get done on my one day off this week, but the sounds coming out of that one tire were saying there's now way I could keep driving around without getting it fixed -- I needed some help and fast! I call up Fowler, who I've never used before by the way, after checking auto shops via yelp that are open on a Sunday (not many are). I also called my dealer but of course they don't even answer phones. The guys at Fowler pickup the phone, I explain the issue, and they say "sure come on in today and we'll look at it..." 4 minutes of tire-grind-ouch-driving later and I'm at the shop. They do a quick inspection, move a few cars out of the way for me, and I drive it into the bay. 10mins later they have it all fixed and no more terrible grinding noise. I really appreciate the fact they got me in, were friendly the whole time, and took care of the car and issue. The mechanic says head into the office and we settle up for a very reasonable price. THE GUYS at Fowler saved my day! THANK YOU! PS: this is also the shop where they do all the yellow taxis, which tells me that they know a thing or to about keeping cars on the road...

Canadian Tire - 149$ plus tax, my dealership at Dueck GM terminal ave. - 140$ plus tax, some other local automotive shops (I live in Port Coquitlam) gave you the read for free then wanted to charge you 80$ for diagnostics. Well Deckers ran the code scanner then did diagnostics and realized it was an on board computer glitch (most likely caused when the cars system needs updating) plus a small evap leak. They reset the flashing vsc off, traction and engine light then recommended that I take it more seriously if it happens again. "So what do I owe you?", I asked as I started mental cringing at the thought of forking over a hundred dollars for a less than fifteen minute job that turned out to be a glitching computer...... ready? --- 40$. Nuff said, Deckers now has a customer for life. I immediately tried to book an appointment to change my back breaks with them but the serviceman Mike took a peek with a flashlight and told me the pads were at about 30% so wait 2 more oil changes then come see him..... WHAT?! Honesty, integrity, service with a smile, really folks it's a no brainer. Deckers Automotive. Thanks Wayne and Mike, you made my week! Sincerely, Dean

How frustrating does that sound? They will charge you, not fix the problem so that you come back and later will say sorry to compensate the frustration. Here's what happened: On January 19th, my car was stalling, so I went to Vancouver Auto Centre (VAC) and got charged $175 for diagnosis fees (excluding change of plugs). I didn't question it, considering it an emergency fee due to the short notice. Between January 19th and February 13th, I only drove the car for four days, fearing more expenses, and started using an electric bike instead. On February 13th, the car stopped, requiring a boost from BCAA. Then, on February 15th, the car started stalling again, and I took it to All Care Auto, recommended by a friend, who changed the alternator and battery for $867. As it turned out, an alternator problem caused more issues than initially apparent. VAC charged a hefty $175 for diagnosis, excluding labour hours, which should have identified the alternator issue, potentially saving my $600, excluding three hours of my time. Such a diagnosis is usually applied when standard procedures fail to pinpoint the problem. I've learned the hard way about garage practices. I discussed it with VAC, but they said they would not charge me the diagnostic fees again if I went back!! how funny!! They would charge me more than All Care auto did and might not fix the problem in the second place. Given the nature of my job, finding a reliable mechanic around downtown Vancouver for immediate assistance seems challenging. While I can't vouch for All Care Auto beyond this one experience, as I have used them only once, they have a good online reputation.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? It was only after I paid that I came to realize how ridiculous this cost is, and luckily it was before I had anything fixed by these guys. I called 5+ other mechanics in the city who all laughed at this cost. The most any of them would charge to run this diagnostic was $50. I took my car to another mechanic who charged $600 for the same job that The Garage quoted me $1100 for...and guess what? They ran the diagnostic for FREE before advising that any work be done. I watched him do this in about 2 minutes. I'm not sure if they sized me up and thought that they could over charge because I'm a woman and I don't know a lot about cars, but I'm sure anyone who knows ANYTHING about cars would laugh in their faces if told it would cost $170 to run the diagnostic that takes 2 minutes.
