The owner, Jackie, is super sweet and I love taking her Sunday morning flow class. I also love the other morning flow classes with Ana. She helped me to rent a mat for free because it was my first visit. Then, she informed me about other classes at Pure, as well as a tour of the facility. The free mat was perfect for what I needed. There is an eyelet on the top left side of the mat, and that is where you lay the mat down in the room. I asked if the spots were reserved ahead of time because they do that at other studios, but there is not need to reserve a numbered spot - it just helps with mat placement and ensuring that people have enough room to move uniformly. I love that! I hate a crowded hot yoga room. The studio is surprisingly cleaner than most hot studios. There is a hydration station to refill your water bottle, which is nice because you aren't forced to purchase water. The restroom is really clean. I haven't seen gym showers that clean even at Equinox in California which I thought that the 3 SF Bay Area locations had nice enough showers. You are limited to a 3 minute shower here at Pure, but that's fine for a quick rinse and it's great when you have to share and are waiting for another person to finish, but they are taking forever to finish. The class itself was a nice succinct Bikram yoga class with the same 26 postures in 60 minutes instead of 90. Beth was a wonderful instructor who gave me a little trinket after my first class. I'm very excited to visit again on the traveler's pass!

In larger classes at other studios, I now realize that I was getting away with poor form, and robbing myself of some of the benefits. The difference in my body after two months at Authentic Pilates of Austin is astounding, especially compared with a year at my previous school. Lindy remembers that she is also teaching, breaking down the traditional exercises into skill-building steps appropriate for your level, and monitoring your progress in strength and form. She knows when to modify an exercise for your specific body condition, and checks in on its effectiveness. Lindy's teaching skill, positive attitude, and beautiful space make me excited to work out.

Gundega's Yoga classes are a great work out, and help me better cope with demands from a stressful job. I find Yoga to be a great way to clear my mind, build strength, and tone muscle. I always feel amazing after class and the following day. The studio is in a residential neighborhood in North Austin which I remember feeling much less intimidating than attending for the first time at a big studio. Gundega is a great teacher, very instructive and knowledgable, and always keeps the mood positive and light. Classes are well attended but never uncomfortably large at the studio. Highly recommended!

All the instructors are so great and professional and put their own twist on their classes. The prices are very affordable, the studio is very clean and just a no frills kind of place where you focus on basic equipment. This is amazing because it means it's very easy to replicate your own studio at home or when you travel. I have been feeling a lot stronger and my lower back pain is completely gone. I love the excercises and they are so inclusive, no matter your strength level. The real 6 stars for me is the flexibility to do classes remote or in person, live or pre recorded. This is a true game changer and is the sole reason I'm able to stay consistent with my 3x a week workout schedule. I will be a customer for a very long time!

Other than a couple-minute orientation the first time you attend, there is no individual attention in the Pilates classes. I went in with a decent fitness level and zero Pilates experience, but in hindsight it would've been good to look up some mat Pilates basics on Youtube before my first class. Everyone one staff is super nice. Attendees mostly keep to themselves. You probably won't make a new gym bestie. But for people who want no nonsense, it's great.

Whole Body Fitness I…read moreparticipated in the 45-minute class in Agave Fitness Center. My instructor, Ivonete, had a unique style that heavily focused on using multiple muscle groups at once and posture. We used many weight machines, and rather than simply doing the default movement that worked one body part, she taught us methods to engage both core and legs, or both legs and arms. It was just me and one other woman in the class, so when we both expressed a little confusion about exactly what Ivonete meant about certain postures, she put things on hold and took a lot of time to carefully explain and show to us the right way to do it. I love when instructors truly spend time working closely with you to make sure you have the right form, as it makes sure you aren't injured and maximize the workout. Ivonete invented the blue mats you see behind her, which have footprints and handprints to help you maintain proper form in a variety of exercises. http://maiden-voyage-travel.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/IMG_0832.jpg Breath Work I ended up being the only person who attended this session, and it was amazing getting the personal attention. This workshop was out in Solidago Gardens, which is secluded from the rest of the resort. I walked past a stone labyrinth (pictured below) and approached a building enclosed in a stone wall that looked like an Asian temple. I entered the courtyard, and there was a waterfall fountain. I opened two large wooden doors and entered a stunning wooden room with a high ceiling and skylight. It truly felt like a sanctuary or temple in China or Asia. Susan, my instructor, was a lovely woman who was soft-spoken and soothing. She discussed the anatomy of breathing, and how being conscious of our breathing can help us in our day-to-day lives. She had me lie down and close my eyes, and she talked me through a very relaxing breathing exercise. After that, she told me that breath work can help us in several situations in life. There is a type of breathing that helps energize you and pumps energy into your veins (if you've done Bikram, it's the Pranayama breathing you use at the beginning of class). There is a type of breathing that helps relax you when you're stressed and anxious, and there's a type of breathing that can help drift you into sleep or meditation. There is one other type that now I'm forgetting. She let me choose which strategies I was most interested in and taught them to me. Toward the end, she had me lie down again and walked me through another soothing breathing exercise. I left so relaxed. http://maiden-voyage-travel.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/IMG_0832.jpg Emily
