My experience purchasing a vehicle from Automaxx in 2025 has been extremely negative, and I would strongly encourage prospective customers to carefully review every number, fee, add-on product and financing term before signing anything.
Approximately a year and a half after purchasing my vehicle, I am in the extraordinary position of still owing an amount only a few hundred dollars below the original purchase price, while the vehicle's current trade-in value is dramatically lower. The resulting negative equity has effectively made the vehicle untradeable for me.
One of my biggest concerns is how the transaction and documents were presented. In my experience, the signing process was extremely rapid. I was directed to initial and sign pre-highlighted areas rather than being taken carefully through every material charge and financial term so that I fully understood what I was purchasing.
I was also charged for additional products that I do not believe were adequately explained to me. One particularly significant example was approximately $2,000 for a WalkAway product. Based on what I subsequently learned about its conditions and limitations, it has not provided the protection I believed I was purchasing and has been of no practical use to me in my circumstances.
I also dispute how the interest rate was represented to me during the sales process. The rate I understood was being discussed was not, in my view, adequately reconciled with the actual financing terms I ultimately received.
My complaint is not simply that my vehicle has depreciated. Vehicles depreciate. My concern is the combination of the financing structure, additional charges, add-on products, representations made to me, and the speed and manner in which the documents were presented for signature.
Had the complete financial consequences of this transaction and the limitations of the additional products been clearly explained to me in a way that I understood before signing, I would not have agreed to this transaction on these terms.
After approximately a year and a half, I am left with a vehicle carrying substantial negative equity and a loan balance that has barely moved relative to the original purchase price. I consider this the worst vehicle-purchasing experience I have ever had.
I would not purchase another vehicle from Automaxx, and I cannot recommend this dealership based on my experience.
My advice to prospective buyers: do not allow yourself to be rushed. Take the documents home if possible. Read every page. Verify the actual interest rate, total cost of borrowing, vehicle price, lender fees and every optional product separately. Ask what each add-on actually covers and, equally importantly, what it does not cover. Do not sign or initial a highlighted area until you understand exactly what you are agreeing to.
