Jim helped me troubleshoot my Whirlpool fridge over the phone. It was "snowing" in the freezer and the refrigerator was not cooling my food. Jim has a great sense of humor and really knows his stuff! He took the time to check the cost of parts as well as the cost to repair it. He determined that it really was a manufacturing issue with Whirlpool and recommended that I call Whirlpool directly. I called them to inquire about replacing the glass cooktop on our electric range and they got back to me quickly. They provided a very itemized quote (part cost, shipping and tax, repair cost, etc.) and included the cost of replacing the whole range so we could make an informed decision about whether to proceed with the repair. In further conversations, I was encouraged to call the manufacturer again (we'd gone down this road without luck) and we were able to have the cooktop replaced at no cost through the manufacturer with this guidance. Truly stellar customer service from Joanne and Pam! That said, I'd happily purchase an appliance from Automatic Appliance Service in the future and/or consider them for repairs. My Whirlpool refrigerator wasn't cooling even though the freezer was working fine. I went through the usual basic diagnostics (e.g. fan, condenser, vent, etc) and didn't have any luck. So I decided to give AAS a call based on the positive reviews. I spoke with Joann and she was wonderful and was able to schedule me in quickly due to a cancellation. Bob (technician) arrived at 9:38am the next day and left by 9:47am. During which time, he took one look at the freezer cabinet and saw a light coating of frost on it, and proceeded to research the cost of replacing the associated components (~$550) that may or may not be at fault (didn't even pull the fridge out from the wall to look in the back). When I inquired about the diagnosis, he said with his 42 yrs of experience, this is how he has always done this type of repair by replacing all of the potential components. Mind you there is a flat fee (~$100) associated with this visit, and I am more than happy to pay it if I feel the technician at least made an attempt on any kind of repair. If I hadn't ask a few questions during the visit, I am certain the entire duration would have been 5 minutes or less. How would you like it if you take your car in for repair, and the technician "looks" at your vehicle and says you need a replacement of internal parts. I feel guilty writing this as this is a family owned business, and it appears you have worked very hard to build your reputation. However, as someone who is inclined to read multiple reviews before attempting any contract hires, I feel the need to post my experience to level set your expectation. read more

One of the best things about them is that they often are able to diagnose and fix basic problems over the phone, saving me the cost of a service visit and charging me nothing. If you live in their service area these folks should be your first (and only) call when you have an issue with your appliance. I have used Automatic appliance to purchase all my appliances and service them for many years. I have never been disappointed by the products or the service. Most recently we had a near disaster in our home when a part from our 11 year old dryer broke, discharging gas in the machine. Fortunately this was remedied quickly by our energy supplier. My husband and I went here after a recommendation from Sostilio & Sons plumbing. We had a clogged drain and our overflowing broken dishwasher. Automatic Appliances is a family owned store and everyone is very professional and so kind. We bought a dishwasher within 30 mins. We worked with Pam who helped us go through all the dishwashers that met our needs. We bought and ordered Friday and it was delivered and installed Wednesday. The guys that installed it did everything. They were prompt and professional! They took out the old dishwasher and hooked up the new one. They took the time to walk me through all the new dishwasher's features that it offered and the warranty that they provide at no additional cost. Very professional and no need to hire different people- all in one appliance service. Bonus- they love dogs and my dog kept bringing them toys to play. We will be replacing a few other aging appliances in the near future. Definitely will go back!!! We won't look at any other appliances store. First class service. I called Automatic Appliance to have a look at a refrigerator in my tenant's apartment that wasn't cooling. The service man called before coming (always a big plus). He quickly diagnosed a failed compressor - the fridge was dead. If I came down to the showroom before noon he could get me a new refrigerator the next day. So I hustled down to the showroom, where the same guy was tending shop (small business, high touch). He picked out a floor model for me that had just been discounted. He said he'd deliver it in about an hour and a half. A half hour later, he was there. It was so fast, I hadn't even had time to move my car out of the driveway, and I was stuck on a phone call. No problem, the service/sales/delivery man moved it for me. Fifteen minutes later, the new fridge was in the, the old one had been removed and my problem was solved. There are several big box retailers within five minutes of Automatic Appliance, but this small company will get my business again and again because of its outstanding service. Update Sept., 2011 This small appliance retail and service operator really is as good as it gets. My allegiance was solidified last year when my dryer stopped heating. I called AA to send someone out to take a look. I was fully ready to write a check for $200 or $300, but the store manager tried to talk me through ways to FIX THE PROBLEM MYSELF. in other words, he was happy to leave money on the table if he could save me some money. Why don't more businesses work this way? It turns out the dryer was broken and needed to be replaced. Guess who got that business? And my business for a new washer, and a new refrigerator, and for every major appliance I will ever buy as long as I live in this area. These guys absolutely rock. read more

While we've been a customer for years for both buying and repair (washer, dryer, dishwasher repair, garbage disposal) our most recent purchase was a new refrigerator. They did their best to see if the old one could be fixed, then gave us a great price on a one (Jim encouraged me to price the same model at any of the nearby big box stores.) What prompted this Yelp review was the delivery. They were in and out quickly, and except for the gleaming new refrigerator in the kitchen you never would have known they were there. They disposed of the old fridge, moved all of the rugs back where they belonged, and even (wait for it...) PUT A 6-PACK OF BEER INTO THE FRIDGE TO COOL!!! These guys are the best. Let's face it its a fabulous family owned and run business which makes this company real and super caring about its service and happy customers. I just bout a new washer and dryer ...I got my last one there in 1989 and basically it has worked perfectly for decades. When I ordered my new combo they knew me, what I had bought, where I lived and the fact that I had the laundry on the upstairs...unbelievable after all those years. Got a great deal on a nice oven, with features I've always wanted. Jim Green was there when he said he's be, brought a plumber, and when the plumber made a mistake, he came back (at 4pm on July 3rd) and squeezed into a tight spot with pliers for an hour to get my new oven working. The person who answered the phone (Jim), was not only courteous, but also very knowledgeable and most importantly, very honest! he took the time not to simply make a "blind" appointment, but instead, he tried to find a possible cause and see if this would be a repair that made sense. My husband and I drove to Automatic Appliance and (unknown to us) after closing hours on Saturday Jim opened the door and greeted us. He could not have been more helpful or knowledgeable. He did not try to up-sell us. He provided candid opinions on brands and cost value. Automatic Appliance is a family business and I asked how their prices would compare to the big box stores. Jim explained that they are part of a small store cooperative type group that combines orders for lower cost from manufacturers.
