Boris is an expert in his field!! We started servicing our cars in his shop many years ago and still doing so. Last time, when we brought in our SUV for an oil change he was so kind as to also take care of some scratches and scraping of the paint on the front right side of the car. Now it looks good as new. We also purchased from him a manual 2007 Mercedes Benz C230 that as for today is still running perfectly. Will continue to service our cars with Boris. read more

I would like to shared my experience with Boris. I brought my cars several times to the regulars maintenance, like to change oil, brake pads', transmission and differential fluid and beside this one with most serious problems. He give good advise, lowest prices to original parts and perfect work done. Always on times, very delicate, precisely and neatly. Strongly recommend Autoexcel VW Service. read more

Brought my volkswagen Jetta in after my last place closed down and he was so helpful!! He explained things so well too

I called to ask some questions about my car, and if he can work on it. the guy who answered the phone said that he does not work on diesels anymore, but was still kind and helpful in finding me in the right direction that I needed. In my experience, people usually hang up if the can't make a dollar off you and don't really care if your car runs or not. Definitely would recommend this place, it seems like customer satisfaction is worth more than the job to these people read more

This is the third time I've brought my SUV in, and Boris has always been amazing. He's incredibly knowledgeable about cars and, as a mechanic, he doesn't just do the job for a paycheck, he genuinely cares about both the car and the customer. The first time I visited with my parents, I needed a car inspection because my husband was still at the sea, and I had just moved from Seattle to San Diego. I wanted to make sure my car was in good condition. Boris provided so much helpful information for my husband, and I initially forgot to check the air, water, and oil. Now, every time I visit, I'm so grateful for how thorough Boris is. He handles the maintenance, explains what we need to know, and gives us updates on what to expect in the future. Today, after inspecting the brakes, he walked me through our next steps. I also asked about the air, and he reminded me to add more oil since it was low again, something I had forgotten, oops! Thank you, Boris! It's always worth coming here. I'm learning more about cars thanks to him, even though I only know how to drive and clean them hehe. read more

I have taken my VW Atlas to Autoexcel for the last 2 years. Borris is great. This time around my water pump needed to be replaced. He recommended I contact the dealer to check of the part was under warranty. It turns out it was. Other mechanics would have kept this information to themselves to make Borris has always been honest with me..His service is 2nd to none. I truly recommend Autoexel read more

Highly recommend Boris and his expertise. Cracked my oil pan late at night and the shop AAA towed it to quoted me a very high price so I looked around for quotes eventually finding Boris at Autoexcel. His quote was very fair and lower than the other shops I went to and he was very reassuringly helpful in explaining the intricacies of the repair so I knew what was going on. Being my Golf is on the older side many shops did not even want to touch it and to be fair Boris was apprehensive but he had me back on the road within the day. During my time with him, Boris was honest, professional and took pride in his work. If you have a VW in the SD area I cannot recommend Boris enough. read more

My lady friend brought her 2016 Jetta in to this shop for a vag com scan and repair. Boris scanned her car, and let her know what needed to be repaired. Boris completed the repair, he seemed professional, knowledgeable and the car has been running fine since. When she let me look over the invoice I was surprised that Boris charged her the scan which was around $110, and then the repair on top of the scan price. It is standard practice that repair shops scan your car and deduct the scan cost from the repair price if you get your car repaired with their business, especially for a repair that was near 1k and the parts cost were less than half of that. In addition I also was surprised that the parts cost that he charged was $130 more than I was quoted at VW Kearney Mesa which had the part in stock, mind you this is the retail price, not what a repair shop pays, and I completely understand that a repair shop also makes money on the parts which is fine. When I spoke to Boris regarding the price discrepancy he just said, "well we don't order parts from that dealership". I kindly asked Boris to refund the scan cost while also citing the parts price discrepancy and he refused. I admit Boris did not state up front that he would not charge the scan cost if she did the repairs but it is standard practice. I called 6 shops in San Diego and they all said this is what they do. I now am using a VW/Audi Shop now in Encinitas that charges only 40$ for a vag com scan, while also deducting the cost from a potential repair. I dislike leaving less than perfect reviews, I corresponded with Boris previously to writing this review and voiced my unhappiness with the charges, and I feel that even though Boris did good work that there are other VW/Audi mechanics that charge less for parts, and diagnostic scans but also are professional and do good work. Reply to Autoexcel: as I clearly stated in the review my friend was not pressured to do the work, and she was happy with results and the car is running fine. My friend did not call me previous to doing the work because I would have called Boris immediately and asked him to kindly waive the $110 diagnostic fee because she was spending almost $1000 in repair. In regards to the parts, Autoexcel bought the part, the list price is 381.67 at VW Mission Bay, and VW Kearney Mesa list price 249.61, I called VW Mission Bay the next day and asked them if they would match the part price that Kearny Mesa Volkswagen offered for over $130 cheaper, which is their manufactured retail price and they said they couldn't match it but they said they would take $80 off the price of the actual part, Which apparently they did not offer AutoExcel, or maybe they didn't ask... As I stated in my original review, there are many repair shops, and most if not all will waive the diagnostic fee if you do the repair, as well as look out for the customers best interest when purchasing parts, I appreciate Boris and his communication which is top notch and his repair skills... read more

**Highly Recommend** Super fast, honest, reliable and very communicative! I have a 2015 Passat, and was referred to Boris at AutoExcel by a coworker who told me he was an expert in Volkswagen. Boris is very straightforward and tells it to you like it is. He is a professional and an expert at what he does! There is never any pressure to submit your vehicle to unnecessary services. He also is very flexible with scheduling, and has been able to fit me in at a moment's notice. I brought my car in because the oil sensor was on the fritz. After I dropped my car off, Boris followed up on his promise to call me back with his findings and confirm the services / pricing before getting started (unlike some mechanics that act first, bill you after). He took the time to walk me through everything and make sure I understood the work he performed. Not only was the price fair, the work was done quick, and service was quality! It is such a relief to have found a mechanic that is honest, reliable, and performs excellent work. Thank you, Boris! read more

I've been taking my VW Golf to Boris since 2019. His services are always quick and he is very professional. He is also very kind and fair, and takes the time to explain what he means in layman's terms after referencing car parts/functions that the average person (me) may not understand. As a young woman who has encountered many snarky, sleazy auto repairmen, I especially appreciate Boris for never patronizing me and for being honest about what services my car ACTUALLY needs, and also what services could probably wait, which is so rare to find. His kindness and patience really go a long way, and I have recommended him to all my friends with Volkswagens. Thank you Boris!! read more

Boris is awesome! Excellent mechanic, honest and trustworthy. First time I took my VW here, I found a paper bag in the trunk two weeks later with all of the old parts that he replaced. Was great that he makes all parts available for inspection so you know that your only replacing parts that really need it. Boris did such a great job in my VW that I also starting taking my other German cars and even an Acura to him. The work is always flawless and is cheaper than the dealership. Now I use Autoexcel for all routine maintenance (oil change, brakes, scheduled maintenance, etc) as well as any unexpected issues. I usually call ahead to make an appointment and Boris is flexible and gets the work done quickly. You can tell Boris cares about his work because the shop is super organized and super clean. A+++. Boris also put sprint boosters in 2 cars for me. These make the car more fun to drive and are well worth the cost. read more

I highly recommended AutoExcel to everyone!!! Boris Dushatsky is a professional, knowledgable and HONEST mechanic. October 6, 2020, I brought my 2015 Audi A5 into his shop because the convertible top was not working. Mr. Dushatsky, promptly drove the vehicle in the back of his shop; used a laptop computer and scanning device to diagnose the issue. He checked all electrical wires and modules. 30-40 minutes later, he finally diagnosed the issue. Afterward, he gave me numerous of options on how to best fix the convertible top. He DIDN'T even charge me a penny for diagnostic. He didn't even ask for any money. I had to ask him how much for the diagnostic and his response was "nothing, its O.K.!" Also, after giving me advices on how to best resolve the convertible top issue, he advised me that he smelled coolant coming from my vehicle. He walked out to my car with me, opened the engine cover, and showed me the leak from the water pump. Instead of charging me to repair the water pump, he advised me that Audi has had recalled and extended warranty on water pumps on 2009 to 2014 models. He advised me to call Audi customer relation to see if they would also honor the extended warranty on my 2015 model. He said if they don't honor the extended warranty, bring the car back and he would be glad do the repair for me. On October 7, 2020, I brought my vehicle into Audi of San Diego and they quoted me $1,550.00, to replace the water pump. As advised by Mr. Dushatsky, I contacted Audi customer relation department, and asked them for a one time goodwill repair. On October 8, 2020, Audi approved my goodwill repair request and all I had to pay was $200.00. Mr. Dushatsky saved me $1,350.00. In addition, after Audi of San Diego, replaced the water pump, they advised me that the left and right front control arm bushing sets on my vehicle were torn. They quoted me $1,200, to replace just the control arm bushing sets. Today, October 22, 2020, I brought my vehicle back to Mr. Dushatsky and he advised me to replace the entire control arm sets instead of only the bushing sets. He quoted $998.00 total for both parts and labor, for two control arm sets. I am bringing my vehicle in to have the control arms replaced tomorrow. Mr. Dushatsky is a great guy with many years of experience and vast knowledge on European vehicles. I completely agree with Nicholas B's review, that Mr. Dushatsky is "professional and knowledgeable." However, I disagreed with Nicholas B on how he analyzed the costs of parts with other repair shops and asking for refund AFTER services were completed, LOL! I wish I could ask my doctor for a refund after my successful brain operation or my lawyer for a refund after an acquittal verdict, LOL! It is absurd to ask for a refund after services have been rendered completely in your satisfaction Nicholas B. I don't know where Nicholas B gets the "standard practice" from but I don't know of any in an auto repair business. Audi of San Diego charged me $199 just to look at my car. Doctors, lawyers, and other professions charge different rates based on education, knowledge and experience. Like anything in life, you get what you pay for. When you bring your vehicle to Auto Excel, you will get the services you deserve based on Mr. Dushatsky's experience, knowledge and professionalism. read more

I now have 114,000 miles on my 2003 Jetta and Boris continues to be a great help. He recently replaced both of my radiator fans and during the process, he noticed that a previous shop (see my other reviews on Yelp to find out which one does such horrible work) had incorrectly installed my new radiator hoses. He came up with a solution that saved me from future problems without having to replace the entire hose again. He also buys, repairs, and sells used VW cars. If you're looking for a used VW, check him out - I'd feel much more assured buying a used car from him than someone on Craigslist or even a local dealer. read more

I tried Import Auto Specialists when I first arrived in San Diego. They charged me $750 to do some work to "fix" the engine light on my VW beetle. The engine light came back on 2 weeks later for the same code and it also developed a coolant leak - don't know if that was related to the earlier maintenance Looking for someone better I searched Yelp and came up with Autoexcel. I called on Friday and Boris had some time to look at it. He did a careful inspection of the car. Found a couple of things that the import auto guys hadn't noticed and gave me a quote that was almost exactly half what the import auto guys wanted to fix the leak. He had time to fit it in that afternoon so he dropped me back to work (in his car) then fixed the beetle. He finished the work when he said he would and picked me up from work (!!). When he picked it up he had cleared the engine code (for free - and explained that it probably wasn't necessary to fix the cause) sorted out the low engine idle (for free) and done the work he had planned. The car is running very well. Best auto repair experience of my life, great guy. He also showed me the components he had removed from the car and explained why. His knowledge and enthusiasm for german cars really comes over. read more

Bought a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta today for my mother-in-law. she's 85 years old so we needed something reliable. Dealt with Boris and I believe he's the most honest man out there in the used car market. Every question was answered honestly and truthfully in his own words to best of his knowledge. After the deal was over I told him I was concerned about DMV fees in the future. Expert knowledge, flexible schedule, no upsell, reasonable rates, clear and thorough answers to my questions. Those are qualities I expect from a good mechanic and Boris nailed it. He's a nice guy who is patient and will do the work you need but not try to weasel any more in. The shop is cleaner than most I've seen and while small is organized and capable. I went in for a regular service but asked Boris to look into some things. Others I didn't mention as a kind of test. Thankfully Boris got some stuff all sorted. Others, like my warped rotors and hesitant engine, he either said wait for it to get worse or totally missed. The waiting room is next door to the shop so you can't watch the work being done but I suppose you could walk over at any time if you wanted to check in. There was no wifi so for those of you who need it you'll have to go offsite. Small issues but I'll definitely go back to Autoexcel the next time my car needs work. read more

Hey Guys, just wanted to share about one super cool mechanic. If you are driving Volkswagen or Audi and have a problem that other mechanics long gave up and are trying to hide when you come to their shop DON'T waste another day!!! I'm not kidding having fuel mix problem in my 2002 Passat still gives me the willies. The car wouldn't start, die on the intersections and do other crazy things. As I've mentioned before I literally was driving between 4 shops in Chula Vista and I think the guys there could hear me coming a mile away. Then my friend told me about Boris at Autoexel. Don't get me wrong but I came next day and the look inside the shop gave me a pretty good idea that the guy means business. The shop is literally spotless and says a lot about the guy. He took my car in and in about an hour he called me back and told me the the rich mixture was due to the oxygen sensor wiring being frayed and I can pick it up after work. I cannot mention my surprise, since couple of guys before Boris were looking at exactly the same sensor and never bothered to check the wiring. The guy is very good at what he does and that not a small praise. I've seen him working on an AUDI and the lady owner repeated my exact story of going from mechanic to mechanic and coming with the same problem until she came in to Autoexel. Since then she wouldn't go anywhere else and her car is no spring chicken. Guys! Trust me on this! Drive! Tow! or if necessary push your VW or AUDI to Autoexel, you'll come out happy. www.autoexcelinc.com By the way I'm scheduling my pre-summer checkup with Boris. So, take a number. Mike read more

We loved working with Boris. During our 4 years in San Diego, Boris was the only guy allowed to touch our Audi! spent an hour online reading reviews of places to take my wife's 2001 beetle for service. Went with Boris at Autoexcel and it was worth the 20 minute drive. When I arrived I told him I needed to get an oil change and new brakes. Upon looking at the breaks he said they were ok and didn't need changing, I told him about a "wobble" when breaking and he locked up his shop and Boris and I went for a test drive. He said it was the rotor, He let me watch the whole process until my short attention span gave in and then he showed me to the waiting room where I got to choose from several vhs movies to watch. I went with Black Rain a pretty awesome cop drama. Boris was great, very honest, very quick, and informative. read more

Took my VW there, Boris is as honest as they get. He gave me the lowdown on what was wrong, and what was going to go wrong in the future. Most importantly I was impressed with his straight forwardness and ability to explain the problems and why you need what he's asking you to pay for. pricing was reasonable but service was great. There is no better place in the Greater San Diego area for good, honest, quality VW work. I bought a used 2001 Jetta that had the Service Engine light illuminated. The previous owner (original owner) told me he'd repeatedly tried getting it repaired, even at the dealership. Autoexcel was able to find and fix the problem and did it at a good price. Also, there were multiple other issues with the car (none bad enough to keep it from safely operating). Boris reviewed each of them with me and offered his honest assessment of the value in completing each repair, considering the expense versus the age/mileage and intended use of the vehicle. He gave his assessment then left the decision to me with no pressure. I've spent two decades trying to find an expertly skilled and respectable auto service. I may start buying only VW now, just so I can take all of my vehicles to Autoexcel. Very refreshing to see an honest, hard working business. This is my first Yelp review. read more
