I replaced that camshaft sensor, and then a new code came up for the crankshaft position sensor, which I also replaced. After all that work, I was still having problems like a rough idle and hesitant starts. While out shopping, I decided to stop at O'Reilly Auto Parts on Maynardville Pike in Knoxville, and honestly, that ended up being kismet. Jade immediately stepped in to help me. She brought out the OBDII scanner to check what was going on after all the work I had done. Unfortunately, it would not connect or pull any codes. Then things got worse. The SUV would not start at all, and I was completely stuck in the parking lot with no way home. After talking through everything, Jade suggested trying another camshaft position sensor (the one I bought was a cheap aftermarket on) to see if that would fix the issue. She helped me get the tools I needed and made sure the install went smoothly. It only took about 20 minutes, and I did the whole job right there in front of the store with her support and friendly chatter the whole way through. I cannot express how grateful I am for that. Jade genuinely cared, and in this day and age, when humanity feels bleak and lost sometimes, that means a lot. Jade did not just do her job. She showed real empathy and compassion, which is something the world needs more of. While helping me, she even shared some of what she is personally dealing with, and it created a real connection that you just do not get anymore. You all seriously need to give her a raise, a promotion and giant thank you, from me, I mean that. We went to Auto Zone and had a very pleasant visit and they handled my battery issue with ease. I will never step foot into O'Rileys again. The last time I was there, the mechanic kept coming into the lobby to give me updates, explain what they were doing, and let me know how much longer it would be. That kind of communication and care is rare. What really stands out is that they're not trying to upsell or squeeze money out of you. They focus on doing solid work and taking care of their customers. In fact, every time I've been there, my final bill has come out lower than what they originally quoted--which never happens anywhere else. I was referred here through family, and now I see why most of their business comes from word of mouth. Once you go here, you don't really want to go anywhere else!

I was In Kentucky at the time and this place, being in Knoxville was about 150miles away. I called Auto Express after looking it up on Google maps and verified it with Yelp. 5 stars. Without hesitation, I called. Initially, I was not impressed with the phone conversation as the guy on the other end didn't pick up with an "Auto Express, how may I help you?" , but rather picked up and said "Hello" as if to welcome the dead silence that followed. After clarifying with the guy on the phone that I had called the right place and asking if they sold tires (thinking for sure I would have to buy a full set or something) he said "Yeah, bring it in. The sooner the better." I was off put that they guy didnt ask for any information about my car or situation. Fast forward, I pull up to the shop. I don't see any tire selection in the store front or a street facing garage (must be in the back). I came in and asked for the guy who I talked to on the phone. Saying nothing, the guy instead just asked for my key. Hesitating, I held the keys in my hand, dangling them a bit, and said "don't you want to look at it first? I didn't even tell you what kind of car.." The guy cut me off, barking "do you want me to look at it, or do you want me to fix it!?". I submitted to him that I wanted him to fix it and surrendered my key... tire fixed in like 15min, no line, no wait, no charge. In summary, this place is a great place to take your car. Just expect that the people running the place are a little socially awkward and/or lacking in social skill. Overall solid job.

Their style is more casual than corporate and that is great for some people and makes others nervous if that's what you're used to, but they're all about fixing anything that is a true mechanical issue or safety hazard, but won't ever push you on anything cosmetic or non-essential, which is great if you're not a millionaire with a car budget to match! They're all much more into doing than talking at this shop, so if I had to give constructive criticism I'd say communicating more about the car's issues/options would make people feel better, but if you have to choose between a mechanic that will talk to you or one who will just fix what's wrong at a very fair/low price, I'll take the latter every single day. :)

Ok. I have a transmission issue…read more Brought it in to determine the root-cause. They found an old (not cleared) thermostat problem that I fixed a year ago. It didn't totally close, thus not allowing the Cat o get up to temperature quickly enough. I replaced for $25 and 45 minutes, easy. Check-engine light disappeared. But obviously the code locked in. And also they said I needed a full replacement transmission. Which I don't deny may be required. , sorta. I am 71 years old, done professional car work since 17. The ONLY reason I am not doing this myself is age. But that said, before I would tear down anything I would already know what component is bad. A valve, cam sensor, etc. My symptoms are of a valve-body stuck valve, causing the clutch(s) to not fully engage. Thus I wanted a more concise explanation for why I should give them $5,000 - $6,000 to replace the entire Xmission. I really should have had a talk with the trained mechanic that could go into depth about the detailed reason it is giving me problems. But I got the worker at the register explaining the estimate to me. I have 100% confidence she has ZERO true mechanical knowledge/training past what to say. She should have called the Tech to talk to me. Had that happened I would have set an appointment to have it replaced. But given the weak thermostat ($330) ghost diag, I had zero confidence about the rest of their work. Reminds me of "give a kid a hammer and everything looks like a nail".

I coordinated a ride to be picked up after dropping off the vehicle for 4 new tires. After receiving a text saying that the vehicle is ready, I coordinated another ride to be dropped off to the shop only to be told that the vehicle is actually not ready. Once the tires were installed, it triggers a text to customers saying that the vehicle is ready. However, this is a false alert as it now has to go for an alignment. As I'm sitting in the lobby, I watched another customer show up after receiving the same text message and was told the same thing. They were not happy about it and left again. Your employees are well aware that this is a communication problem. Please make customers aware up front so that they do not drive back prematurely.
