He's handled everything for us, from routine maintenance to larger repairs, and the work has consistently been solid and reliable. For context, this shop is essentially maintaining a fleet of vehicles for our family business, and they've earned that trust through honest assessments and fair pricing. I also know my way around a vehicle, so I can tell when someone is being straightforward versus trying to upsell--and I've never had that issue here. When I've taken my car to other auto shops before, I can say I've never felt I had an honest experience with any of them. Right away, Dennis was straight forward and detailed with me after a careful inspection. I appreciated that he took time, and was genuine when answering my qu estions, and helping on such short notice. Once He took time to explain parts being ordered and time frame it'd take, he started right away. I brought my car in on a Thursday, and no joke, come Monday morning, he's calling me letting me know it's ready. Upon arrival, immediately he showed me everything that was done, including showing me the warn out/corroded parts he replaced, did some additional "fixes" at no cost (front light, rotate tires that previously put on wrong, etc). He also suggested a few recommendations that were super helpful. I felt that he priced everything at a great, more than fair price for sure. Dennis made the whole process easy-peasy, and he was both very time efficient and thorough with the work on my car. Its dang near impossible to find real honest, decent, mechanics anywhere anymore, and by the grace of God, and a friends recommendation, I found one! I took my 2017 VW Golf GTI SE to the Grease Guys for a smog…read more I told them I had an APR Stage 1 tune on it which is a CARB (CA Air Resources Board) approved tune with an Executive Order (EO) number of D-783-3. I had the paperwork for the install from 2Bennett in Davis and I had the EO document (pdf). The mechanic seemed to have no idea what I was talking about. Kept thinking I had changed my ECU chip, which I did not do and saying he couldn't do anything because he couldn't find a sticker, even though I had the EO number. You would think a professional and highly rated smog station would know about after market tunes (which are detected by the OBD-II scan) and how to handle them. Basically I was denied service because the shop wasn't informed about state standards for the services it performs. There are hundreds of CARB approved ECU tunes on the list and this shop, apparently, can't help any driver who has one.
