I've worked with this company before last year in November and got my car fixed had to get a new alignment or whatever. I'm no mechanic I just know I paid over $1700 to get it fixed. Less than 90 days later I had another incident with my vehicle. It had nothing to do with the prior damage that I they already fixed before, but the amount for what my car was going to need to be fixed was another $2000. Now I always go to them for minor car details such as getting a light fixed or oil change tire rotation and small jobs. And in less than 90 days another incident happen with my daughter put diesel fuel in my Mercedes vehicle. They want to charge me another $2000. Not only that my real problem was my car has been in their care for over a week and they had not done anything they informed me I was gonna have to wait until Ernesto the guy who works on specialty vehicles came back to work which would have been the day after my vehicle got there. Unfortunately when Ernesto got back to work he Must of had a lot of vehicles to do,so now my car still has not been fixed in over a week. Three days ago they give me a call saying they ordered all the parts for my vehicle and they just need me to give an answer on if they should fix it before letting me even know how much she was going to be. I am formed them I will probably be leaving and going to get a second opinion since I've been doing business with them they could not lower my price and Anthony told me he was going to charge me a $329 diagnostic fee. When I first drop the vehicle off he informed me that they only charged 129 diagnostic fee and after that 129 diagnostic fee if I decide to get my vehicle fixed with them to waive it. Me being extremely frustrated in meeting my vehicle I threaten to have it picked up and go somewhere else that could've had it done that same day and Anthony then told me I needed to pay him $329 diagnostic fee. So after this huge back-and-forth talking Dodge running around call after call trying to get my car fixed and trying to figure out if they're lying to me about their pricing. I've given them the OK to just fix the car even though I don't have the money I'll get it but fix it so I can go back to work. I also felt pressured by Anthony I believe his name as the front desk attendant/accountant/manager I'm assuming or maybe we could just save the money guy. Today now makes it a week and three days my car has not been fixed it's 9:30 AM on Monday I have not heard from them whatsoever the only time I hear from them is what I call them and I'm a cash paying customer who would like a deal I just paid you guys $1700. And the second opinion was going to charge me way less than 2000. So he claims he pulled some strings and is gonna allow me to pay $1500 so that I can get my car which I'm grateful for but why did I have to threaten to have my vehicle sent to another do you either have it fixed? And why did the diagnostic fee go from 129 to 3:29 when I said I was gonna have it moved? And why don't tattoo any type of loyalty program or frequency program or neighborhood program or good customer program other than the little finance things that everyone can get From any other car repair shop. I'm huge on loyalty which is why I always go to them but due to this last situation and Anthony and Ernesto and the manager of the company that location in Pearland on Shadow Creek I'm not gonna suggest that location to anyone I know. Unfortunately a lot of mechanics at work they are very nice gentleman but it's not worth the hassle. I have yet to have an outstanding experience here. Yesterday my mom took our car (as a favor to us as we work full time) for a state inspection. She mistakenly asked for an oil change- but we had an oil change two weeks ago. The sticker is on the windshield AND our fluids were at 100%. YET they gave us an oil change and never said "according to the dip stick or I don't know the sticker on the windshield that says you're not due another 3000 miles- you don't NEED one".... now to me that's shady. I should mention my mom brought them donuts as a treat since she was there early and there is a donut shop next door. REALLY? Why wouldn't they go the extra mile and tell her that she didn't NEED one- no they gave her an unnecessary oil change and said nothing. To me, that's shady. I called and kept my cool with the person who took my call. He was very pleasant UNTIL the guy who helped my mom demanded to speak to me- he ruined everything. He was very rude, over-talked me, and told me that they shouldn't have to check the sticker or the dipstick- ummm what? I refuse to patron this place anymore as there have been other instances (which I should have voiced too) of overcharging. I let it go because this place is nearby but nope- not anymore. I was actually heading to the UPS store in the same shopping center and when I saw them right next door I figured, "oil change is on my list for today why not save a little time and gas?" The guys behind the counter were very friendly and told me it would be 30-45 minutes (come on, who actually believes an oil change can have a finite finish time at a shop). I had enough time to walk over to the UPS store, get my package shipped off, and get a coffee and a donut at Donut Heaven and still had plenty of time to read before they told me my car was ready. Am I the only person who brings a book or something when they get an oil change? I mean, it's not that I think people lie about how long it will take, but stuff happens and why set yourself up to be late to something else? The guys behind the counter did mention some leaks I already knew about and we chatted a bit about my plans for the car (she's old and not long for this world). They made a few suggestions and mentioned that they offer pre-purchase inspections whenever I might need one and were helpful without being pushy. I'll definitely go back again. If you are considering giving this establishment your business i urge to look at and read their reviews not only on yelp but on fb and yellowpages. My family has been using these people for many years for multiple cars. Thinking back we have had some issues with pricing but not being experts in the matter and wanting to believe the best in people we never questioned it. Upon reading multiple reviews most have very similar stories of poor customer service, unethical business practices, poor workmanship, dissatisfied customers, and just overall subpar experiences not deserving of a community business. I brought in one of my cars because of issues with the cruise control, they kept it for almost three months alleging they had issues finding parts and when they did find parts they did not work. Its a 2001 model that has been discontinued so i believed their word. Finally after making calls each week and multiple visits including one which i simply wanted to leave with my car and them wanting to charge me for repairs that were never made, i got my vehicle back. Only to find that there was a strange sound coming from within, i took it back and upon inspection they let me know that it was an issue with the transmission that was quoted as being a nearly $5k repair. I found multiple receipts from within the time period they had it in their possession inside the car letting me know that they had been using my vehicle for personal matters. Further more, i had initially done the state inspection the day i brought it in according to these documents the vehicle had 110,585 miles on it that day, upon receiving the car back the odometer read 110,729 miles, thats 144 miles that the car was on the road while in their possesion. Now, i understand that a mechanic must test drive a car to ensure their work is done properly, but that amount of mileage is no needed. My car was obviously used by them and i am certain they are responsible for whatever damage was done to the transmission. I have attempted to talk to the manager Anthony but received nothing but poor customer service and subpar excuses, i am surprised at this sort of treatment being that we have invested in this community mechanic for well over eight years, almost since they opened. The worst part is that none of these reviews seem to deter people from giving them business as they do not deserve the privilege to service the people of this community. I have taken steps to file a formal complaint with the BBB and am also going to be seeking counsel from a consumer attorney and i urge to do the same if you have had this sort of experience, this is not about retribution but more of wanting to stop this from happening in the future to anyone spending their hard earned money on a business that quite frankly does not deserve to be a part of this community, as consumers we have rights and we have the power to make changes if only we either coalesce or go through the right avenues to make your voices heard. read more

After going to my dealership, they found that the air filter clips had been left open, causing air to get into the car. Automax checked the air filter. That's the last straw. I'm going to give three stars for the decent service I've received in the past (though with the past reviews, duly noted on checking the pricing, etc). Today was very uncomfortable, though. Stay away!! They will give you an estimate and then do additional work and dramatically increase your bill. My mother was quoted a reasonable value and Auto Max performed the work. They called about "additional work" to be done and gave her a verbal quote over the phone. When she arrived to pick up her car, they MORE THAN DOUBLED the bill from the original & verbal quote. Have been a customer for a few years now . Only place I get my yearly car inspections . On 03/22 I was told my license plate bulbs were out and I would need them replaced before passing inspection. Ask how much and was told 23.98 - no problem I'm tired and as I said a previous customer. When paying it turns out the bulbs were $5.98 and I was charged 43.98 for labor !!! Really Auto Max !! When asked about the charges I was told because of where the bulbs were located .. and that's untrue I've changed them before ! So I was obviously a little mad when I wrote my last review. I have clammed down, to adjust the rating to 2 stars. We have had work done here multiple times. We have had oil changes and inspections done multiple times. The people are nice. Max was sorry about what happened with my car this weekend. There have been annoying things where we have had to take the car back to get something fixed or adjusted after repairs. This time the cover under the car was dragging on the ground. They said they didn't take the cover off, but it didn't just happen to fall off while at their shop for 2 days. Anyhow, they did get it put back on. They haven't charged me extra for fixing these little things. I still think we are going to try a new place around here. This is the most drastic drop in a rating that I have ever written. After the a/c filter fix a few months ago, I decided to try them out for my oil change and tire rotation before the holidays. Things were going ok until I was called out to look at my car while it was still up on the platform. The tech showed me three "leaks": power steering, transmission, and something else. It was odd because my car had been driving fine and I park in the same spot in my garage every night. Never noticed any wet spots or stains. I had to go to work so I had them write out a list of recommended work and paid for my services: $94 for the oil change, tire rotation and oil filter, which is kind of pricey. That night, I noticed a strong oil smell in my garage and looked under my car. There was a visible leak dripping onto my garage floor. I went back the next morning and firmly asked that whatever was done that suddenly caused a leak be undone. They said it could be the cap and replaced that. That stopped the leak. I had my dad's mechanic check it out while home for Christmas and he said their recommendations were hogwash-- the kind of thing mechanics tell gullible looking women to run up the bill. That irked me but what ticked me off even more is that his assessment means they probably left my cap loose to create a leak on purpose thinking that would scare me into authorizing the work. That is really not cool. So now I've got to renege on my earlier review. Automax turned out to be just as shady as so many other spots. read more

I'd give this zero stars if I could. This has to be the worst mechanic ever. When giving a price the guy tells me $385.32+labor, instead of telling me the total price. I don't know the price of labor. They charged almost $300 for parts that only cost $35. And didn't even finish the job correctly. Didn't replace the air filter as requested. My maintenance required light was still on, the mechanic expected me to figure out how to turn it off, they didn't change the oil sticker, and my side mirror was turned in to where I couldn't see. I came in for an oil change and $214 later, they talked me into a transmission flush and other things. They quoted me one price but then it was. Super shocked to see this highly rated! We took my husbands car there for the inspection and were told it needs all new tires. I said okay to getting the tires when I was told a final price. I asked for all fees, disposal fees, taxes etc. to make my decision and was told one flat price. Shocker, when we went to pick it up the guy told me it was that price plus $140. I said no no I got quoted X prize and was told that with everything included! He then made me think I wasn't going to get that price there was no way and that he has to "check with his boss", he was the person that told me the price initially. In the end I did get it for the price I was told but not after having to complain and haggle. In addition my mother-in-law had the oil leaking from her Silverado. She took it to her Abilene car care place and they said whoever did the last oil change did not put a cap(?) On correctly and it was leaking. So I have been twice now. The first time I got an oil change, they were nice and efficient and no problems. This second time however has been awful. First it took an hour and 40 min for an oil change and tire rotation, they quoted me less than an hour. Second they either didn't replace the oil cap or didn't tighten it down so when I drove off oil exploded around the engine area and then leaked all over our driveway. I took it back and they cleaned it up, replaced the cap and added more oil but this shouldn't have happened. Will be looking for a new place.... read more

He calls customer after repair is done letting the customer know what has to be done and threatened customers that he can always go back and undo the work if the customer doesn't agree with the inflated charge. Total estimate does not include labor, customer "discovers" at the end a double amount after labor is added at a rate of 99$/hour. Also a charge of about 7.9% is added to all bills for "supply fee". Auto repair shops may not be cheap to begin with but Auto Max basically takes the expensive pricing to a whole other level. I have paid some steep cash here in the past, generally speaking, to get repairs done from time to time as this is the closest Auto shop to my house. However, I have at least been handed a pricing quote ahead of actual repairs on my previous visits to help make a decision on whether or not I would like to proceed. On my most recent visit, though, even that step got skipped altogether as I dropped my car off to inspect seatbelt issues for 45 minutes and returned to see them fix the problem without any price discussion with me for a total charge of $148.50. Are you kidding me?!?! That much for untangling two rear seat belts? I was shocked and when I asked why I wasn't given the price before repairs were performed, the manager started yelling at me about how he owes me no discussion because it was implied that I would be proceeding with the fix. Excuse me? Since when are we implying such things when a hefty amount of cash is being exchanged?! To stop further argument, they gave me a refund of $37.50 diagnostic fee but still charged me $111 overall for such a minor repair. Due to time constraints, I just walked away from the toxic situation for now and highly suggest you walk away from this place altogether to begin with as it is akin to getting robbed for low-end service. read more

He will come to you like he trying to help but he really trying to make you have to come back. In my experience there I had a car that was overheating spent $1800. They said, " I needed my lines replaced and some more small details". We went ahead and "fixed it". A day later the car still was overheating. I took it back instead of saying we called it wrong this guy Anthony tried to say my whole system bad that I need to replace the radiator. I wasted money on that changing the lines out. He gave no discount or nothing. So I had been missing work so I just needed the car fixed. I let them replace it. The car started smoking and still overheating when I hit it back. Stay away from this place even if all you need is an inspection. I went to get my car inspected. 10 minutes later they pulled me into the back and said I had a problem. They told me my brakes were completely shot and I was out of brake fluid which was dangerous. They would not be able to pass me on inspection. They quoted me $500 for four brake pads and brake fluid. I told them I wanted another opinion, and one of the guys started saying very loudly in the front that I did not pass inspection and should not leave. I took it to somebody else, and they said my car was fine. He suggested I eventually get new brake pads but there was no hurry.
