This place is AMAZING! Everyone here is so nice. Took my car in to get work, everything is well priced.

I thought the days of rip-off mechanic shops were over but we have a genuine functioning one in…read moreRochelle, IL with Masterbend. I have a 2008 Explorer Sport Trac Adrenalin vehicle. This is a limited edition sport truck that I've bought new and have maintained in pristine condition with low miles. The muffler and the pipe exiting the muffler were rusting out. The vehicle being a special edition had a special exhaust and consequently replacement parts are not available. It has a 300 hp V-8 but unfortunately with it being all wheel drive and having IRS packaging it necessitates the dual exhaust manifolds Y-ed into single 3" exhaust for the majority of the vehicle length. So I requested from the mechanic that we cut off the muffler and put on a 3" Flowmaster muffler and join it to the existing tailpipe. The estimate was $600 and 2 hours of labor. While the work was being done I requested looking at the specifics of the job but was told by the service manager that that wasn't possible because itemization wouldn't be available until the job was completed. I requested that I be able to inspect the job after completion and it was agreed upon. No post job inspection was provided unless you count me lying on the parking lot and trying to look at the work. After paying the $576 bill I drove home. Of course I "got on it" to see how the new exhaust performed. Surprisingly it performed worse that the stock exhaust, especially at higher RPMs! At home I was able to do an inspection and concluded that they actually put a 2.5" muffler and piping on it! I verified the Flowmaster part # and it was clearly delivered a 2.5" muffler. Now you don't need to attend fluid flow study engineering classes as I did or read and watch studies concerning flow rates of a 3" vs 2.5" piping, but you can recall some of your math classes that when you calculate the volume of a circle (pi x radius squared) to determine the cross section of a 3" pipe it"s more than 40% more (actually 44% more) than a 2.5" pipe and you can understand the difference in flow. Thinking that perhaps there was an ordering mistake, I called the shop for a "discussion". I was willing to work with them to correct the job in that I said if they would refund the cost of the muffler ($162) and the 3" straight pipe that was charged and not installed ( $40), I would install the correct muffler and piping myself. I'm 71 years old with an arthritic back so I'm limited in what I can do. My offer was not only declined but I was laughed at for challenging the job as "her brother was a racer and he would tell you there's no difference in performance (!)". The mechanic that did the installation was in the shop but amazingly unavailable to discuss the job! The next conversation involved the shop owner and he also laughed at me saying "it's just an old Explorer, what do you care?" Oh and the service manager did inadvertently mention that their shop could not bend pipe bigger than 2.5" so it was obvious they never intended on doing the job properly. The owner never saw my vehicle and I explained it was far from "an old Explorer". I promised a scathing review and he seemed little concerned. I did get his attention when I mentioned that my Credit Card company has a feature that allows you to challenge a bill. So now I'm left with a botched job and out $576. It will cost a couple hundred $s and some hours out my time to correct. Rochelle Masterbend potential customers beware!I
