Details like the owner Eugene placing the sample shingles by the house and having me look at them from a distance of the street so that I can choose the color and texture (as opposed to inside the house on a table with artificial light) and explaining clearly the options I might have in order to address this leaking roof made sure I am in control of how this project goes. The workers were polite and hard working. Eugene came back the next day for inspection to make sure the job was done to his standard, and picked up every bit of trash the workers missed due to darkening daylight the evening before.

Sterling is a company that acts as an advocate for the home owner…read more Let's face it insurance companies don't want to pay out on claims. As homeowners we don't know how to deal with them and they take advantage of us. I worked with Sterling exteriors. The rep came out circled the hail damage and came out and walked through the damage with the inspector. He acted as my advocate and I ended up getting new siding and gutters. They just finished the work this week and it looks great. With no out of pocket cost and the rep actually added trim and a few other items on their own. The rep you deal with makes a difference. I worked with Mike O'Brien at 847-703-0299. He was great. Mike kept me updated the whole way through the process. My experience with Mike was exceptional.

They came in…read moremid-September but told me to wait until the end of October to book anything because it would be less expensive. So I waited until the end of October and called. I was told that they were already closing down for the winter but that they had a guy that they worked with who would honor their quotes and do the work. They came back, did a quote, and took pictures to share with their guy. A few days later their referral came out and measured everything. Sterling Exteriors then confirmed what day their guy was going to be coming out. I arranged the financing on my own and had them back out to sign the paperwork and give the the deposit check. When I was giving the deposit check I was told that at that very moment, their guy was out buying the supplies. We were all ready to do. 10 minutes later Sterling Exteriors called back and said that there guy wasn't going to be able to do it because of "a number of issues, but mainly manpower". So they had provided pictures to their guy, confirmed the start date, were in the process of purchasing the required materials, and had a signed work order and deposit. And all of a sudden the guy who was all ready to go couldn't do it. So I said that Sterling needed to do it themselves, but was told no, they were closed for the year and that there was nothing that could be done. It's plainly obvious that Sterling Exteriors under quoted the work and that neither their referral nor Sterling Exteriors themselves would honor the pricing I was given, and that I was being given the run around as to the reason why. When I confronted Sterling Exteriors about this they stopped replying altogether. Very shady business that won't honor their own pricing even after the contract was signed.

A family-owned…read morebusiness. 4 years ago, they did my 3 flat roof and replaced wooden beams that needed to be replaced at a nominal cost (I believe it was included in the price). They do a thorough structural check of the full roof, explain to you your needs, and give you a FIRM estimate when they are ready to proceed. The OWNER of the company, Marvin Kosowski, is on every job his crew does! They do the latest environmentally-friendly and cost-effective techniques, too. Since I have a pitched roof, they suggested a newer technique with a "breathable vent" along the top of the roof. The result? The upstairs tenant's gas heating bill dropped dramatically (by half!), and the overall building's heat loss/cooling factor improved a lot! When Mom and Dad owned this building, they turned to Marvin back then, too. Established 1964. Work is fully guaranteed for years, depending on your installation technique. I found the price very attractive for the size of my roof. Gee, I even got a gym bag and two tee shirts (with their logo, of course) left on my back step when they were done! Nice touch! Marvin F. They installed a roof on the new porch and although Charlie said he could match the new roof with…read morethe existing roof, they left a large obvious hump instead of a smooth transition. We also had them put gutters up in front and on our pole barn. The front gutters seemed to be installed correctly but the pole barn gutters were installed improperly and fell to the ground with the first snow storm. We asked Charlie to fix/reinstall the gutters since his employees did not properly secure it. Charlie stated he would fix it so as installed properly. Then we received a contract to pay for wood to install the gutters and were told he would not fix it unless we signed the blank estimate. There wasn't an amount on it, so we told him we wanted to know the extra charge (we didn't feel we should have been charged anything, but would be willing to pay for extra material if that's what we needed). Charlie then stated he needed to charge for more labor costs and materials, and said he has to "take care of his boys" and said he would charge us to reinstall it properly (as if it was a new project). He refused to fix the issue his employees caused and now we're out the money we originally paid to have gutters put up and have to pay someone else to do the job correctly. We do not recommend them and wish we'd read the Yelp reviews when the contractor (who built the porch) recommended Charlie Copely.
