Sauerbraten with Spaetzle

You can tell the quality of a restaurant by how they know their regulars. Great neighborhood restaurant with a very tasty German menu.

Mushroom schnitzel with spatzle and potato salad

I wanted to really like this place, but aside from their selection of German beers I'm just not thrilled with it. Don't get me wrong, all the food I had here was fine, but it was nothing spectacular. In fact, I would say their sides seem to be a lot better than their entrees. The potato salad was probably the best thing I had here. My schnitzel was okay, but it was a little dry and I've had better elsewhere. This place seems better for drinks, at least for me. It seems they have beer going for them.

I've been coming here for as long as I can remember. My most recent visit was the first in years and this place hasn't changed one bit. That might be some of the charm this place has. The interior makes you feel right at home like you're in someone's dining room. Now for the food... I always get their birch beer to drink and it's just on another level. Definitely way better than what you can get in stores. This time I started with the cheesesteak egg-roles and the buffalo boneless wings. They were just okay, but I also recognize this isn't the place to get those sort of things. Where they shine is in the main course! I always get the stuffer schnitzel parm. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. You might be thinking to yourself "is it really that good?". Yes, it really is! Try it for yourself!

Austrian Village is one of my family's favorite restaurants. You can bet we'll be eating there whenever we are in the area. The Austrian Village's menu has grown over the past few years, but all the classic favorites are still there. If you're a first time dinner I highly recommend ordering the Schnitzel (My personal go to order is the Super Schnitzel which comes over a bed of mushrooms and topped with crunchy onions and cheese) with a side of Spaetzle topped with gravy. I can guarantee you'll be walking out with leftovers in hand. Typically the Austrian Village is filled with locals. The wait staff if friendly and seemingly always the same few ladies. Inside the decor is semi dated, which gives the place an authentic feel that you wouldn't get elsewhere.

Pretzel with Beer Cheese app.

Came here with friends on a Friday night and we where greeted and seated promptly. The restaurant is nicely decorated, clean and has a European vibe. Our Server was friendly we ordered the following: App- Pretzel with Beer Cheese- Pretzel was great the cheese was too thin and lacked on flavors. The Happy German- 1 Bratwurst, 1 Knockwurst, 1 Kielbasa, 3 slices of Pork Belly, 1 homemade bread dumpling served over Sauerkraut. So yes he was a "Happy German" the plate was very good and the dumpling was amazing you can tell everything is homemade here. Stuffed Schnitzel- which is a Cordon Bleu- stuffed with Ham and cheese served with Spaetzle and Red Cabbage. Flavors where spot on and she enjoyed it. Parmigiana Schnitzel- topped with cheese and tomato sauce served with fries. This meal was great as well. Hungarian Goulash- Served over Spaetzle I opted for Mashed Potato and Spaetzle. The Goulash was ok but was too runny almost like a soup. I enjoy my gravy thicker and my mashed potatoes where cold. Dessert- Apple Strudel with Vanilla Ice Cream- Pretty good we enjoyed it since it was big enough to share. Of course we enjoyed the German Draft Beer from Hof Brau Haus. Overall it was a pleasant meal and nice evening we will be back.

I will start this review with a rundown of their available sausages which all are gluten free for those of you that need GF items. WURSTPLATTE Sampler of our sausages, potato salad, sauerkraut 2 for $20/ all 6 for $40 SAUSAGES (GF) BRATWURST - traditional fresh pork. KNOCKWURST - pork, veal & garlic. I have tried a number of items that I have found no place else including an interesting aperitif that tasted like peppermint and came in a small airplane bottle that they serve you! One word to describe this experience, AWESOMENESS!!! They also have happy hour every day from M-F 4pm-7pm offering $8 sausage sandwiches and $6 for all beers. I plan to have a repeat trip here very soon as it really is a fun experience. As always people SYOY!!!

After attending Oktoberfest in Munich in 2025, I was curious how the Brauhaus Schmitz event at the 23rd Street Armory would compare. This stateside rendition was excellent and might be the closest thing to the real Wiesn on the East Coast. The VIP ticket included two liters of beer, reserved seating, and endless German food delivered to our table throughout the five hour event. The beers were great, the food was tasty, and the entire event was extremely well organized. Servers kept the beer flowing, while the QR ordering system made getting food surprisingly quick and easy. The atmosphere was also top notch. Draped banners across the ceiling made the Armory feel like a true Oktoberfest tent and immediately reminded me of the Hofbräu tent in Munich. The bands played classics like "Sweet Caroline" and "Ein Prosit," keeping everyone singing and raising their glasses throughout the session. Overall, Brauhaus Schmitz does an incredible job recreating the Oktoberfest experience without the flight to Germany. If you go, VIP is definitely the way to do it.
