I planned to come here as a surprise to my sister because she loves alice in wonderland. Check-in was easy enough and we were able to check in our bags too. The exhibit itself was fairly interesting and some parts were interactive. They had a lot of facts and trivia about the book, the author, and also the various films throughout the years. It was a fun experience. We were able to have our own tea party and experience the tea party like in the movies. After that we made our own coat of arms, which we cut and glued and then we took a picture of ourselves with our coat of arms and our face popped up on the screen. It was cute and my sister and I spent about 2 hours there. Overall, I would come back if they had another interesting exhibit going on.

Now that I am into arts and thoroughly enjoy museums I can say I enjoyed this one heaps. It's right across Flinders Station and close to the Yarra River. They are currently doing an Alice in Wonderland exhibit. I went to see the Screen Worlds which was a permanent and free exhibit at the ground floor and it gave me a lot of information about the evolution of film. I enjoyed it and didnt notice the time. I will go back for the other exhibits some other day. Best to have at least 1.5 hours to be able to fully appreciate an exhibit. The staff were awesome and so helpful.

I'm gonna give this place 4 stars because I love movies and have great interest in learning how the magic happens behind the camera or digital pens, CGI and whatever. We went to see the DreamWorks Animation last week and I have to say that I had a great time. From the hilarious KungFu Panda to the ever-popular Shrek, the awesome wow How To Train Your Dragon and the fun and 'I like to move it move it' Madagascar plus many more; it's a great opportunity to watch learn how Po, Shrek, Fiona and the other characters that we love so much were born. The exhibition is a celebration of over 20 years of DreamWorks animation and features over 400 items such as concept drawings, original artworks, interviews and interactive displays. Seriously guys, it's worth a visit so make sure you have a look if you haven't been yet. The Dragon Flight experience was the highlight of the arvo for us. You go into a room and they've set it up so that it feels like you're sitting on Toothless on the screen and you basically fly over Berk. It's pretty cool when it starts because they've made it so that the screen is blank and the scenery, people, landscape is drawn as you fly over. It was wicked! Tickets are about $24 I think so it's alright. Oh I love Toothless............

The Australian Centre for the Moving Image is one of the better museums that Melbourne has on offer. It is located right on Fed Square, just across the road from Hosiers Lane and nestled in amongst the impressive postmodern architecture. Their website describes their story as follows: "A unique institution at the heart of Melbourne's iconic meeting place, Federation Square, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) celebrates, explores and promotes the cultural and creative richness of the moving image in all its forms - film, television and digital culture." I have mainly experience the exhibitions that change quite frequently. One of which was a free exhibition that told through a range of short videos Australia's love affair with travelling and the Kombi camper vans. The other exhibition that I remember quite vividly was a video games one that offered you the chance to explore its history and also play a large number of classic games. You never know really what to expect from ACMI, so my advice would be to check it out if you are new to Melbourne or alternatively if you haven't been in a while.

This establishment at Federation Square is out of this world. A museum where staff wear the weirdest space like uniforms, with a freakish and matrix like energy as you enter. High tech and designed for those who are into Star Wars and the like. Speaking about Star Wars; an exhibition on Star Wars (Star Voyager) is on at ACMI right now. This is an establishment where the weird and wonderful films of yesterday in particular are seen on screen; we are talking films about cults to name. I find the energy a little too heavy handed here, although it is an innovative establishment and designed for quality entertainment for those who are into space age technology to name. The moving image is captivating; and thus this establishment is fulfilling this purpose. Access to the SBS is through ACMI. We are also talking about intergalactic television which has piqued my interest somewhat; as well as talks on the role of women in space exploration. Digital arts has a home and appreciation at this establishment simultaneously. There is something here for the art and science types; although you did not have to ace these subjects for your VCE to appreciate what this establishment has to and can offer locals and visitors to Melbourne alike.

We happened to be walking nearby when we saw banners for an exhibit of Aardman Animations! So we went in and spent the next 4 hours enthralled with Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep and all other things Aardman!!! The exhibit was spread over many rooms, ending with a room where you can create your own claymation mini-movie! The only thing I could fault was that the gift shop didn't have enough Wallace and Gromit swag. Loved it!!!

The Australian Centre for the Moving Image is a government initiative concerned with the exhibition and preservation of Australian and international cinema. Located at the iconic Federation Square, ACMI has two state of the art cinemas (the best in Melbourne in terms of their technical quality) that are open to the public for general sessions and also provide a home base for several of Melbourne's film festivals. ACMI also has a number of museum/exhibition spaces (most of which are free entry) that showcase video art and film installations, as well as artefacts from all aspects of the history of cinema. There is always something of interest for kids as well, such as the permanent 'Screenworlds' exhibition that has a heap of fun hands on activities. ACMI has one of Australia's largest film archives, so is a brilliant educational resource. It also offers a variety of short film related courses and seminars.

For what seemed to be such a small museum actually turned into hours of me poring over every word on timelines and information they gave. Learning the history of the First People's and the colonization of Australia was incredible, but eerily familiar. The parallels between US history and Australian history were shocking and I felt so ignorant not having known all of that. I love the recognition of the First People's and the stories that are being told recognizing the terrible past. In talking to Australians, they admit they have a long way to go. As an American, it feels like Australia is in the future and we are way in the past still denying the truth. This museum was amazing! They also had an exhibit called "Joy" that I was unaware about until I was inside of the museum. I loved it! It was filled with whimsy and color and sound and then went into subjects and posed questions to stimulate introspection. I walked away feeling like I learned a little about myself too. I highly recommend this museum! It gave me an amazing foundation of history that helped me learn more as I explored and visited more museums!

For me I was a little bored, although I did learn something interesting about the Victorian maritime system; yet there isn't overly too much to look at, so again this establishment is slightly overrated in my eyes; I was bored. However for families that put on special events like family fun day where children can get their face painted and receive goodie bags, and also get the opportunity to dress up as pirates; only to name a few different activities as part of their family fun days which children get to relish. It is popular among families, and expect to be patient when queuing to get in. Luckily there is a cafe pit stop to enjoy the end of the journey, although I cannot comment much on this cafe because I decided to pass on my coffee on this occasion. Still interesting to discover though. Give it a go.

Where else can kids see moving roaring dinosaurs in Melbourne? Furthermore, the Nitty Gritty Super City upstairs offers many fun activities, such as a mock construction site. There's even a realistic Lego model of Melbourne. Unfortunately, there is nothing for adults to do other than accompany the kids. In this respect, the use of the word Museum is somewhat misleading. Play-centre would've been a much better description. Adults will learn little from the exhibits. For example, the dinosaur exhibition skips over the origin, geological periods, evolution or demise of these animals. They are not arranged in any chronological order, and not even to scale. For example, the T-rex is roughly half size. And nothing from the Triassic period. Again I have to remind myself it's for KIDS ONLY. The cafe is disappointing, offering mostly pies, sandwiches, chips but no healthy cooked food. At least there is real coffee. In summary, adults with no kids should stay away. But I'll probably bring my kids back here for more.
