In fact, it was the very first stop my husband and I made because I couldn't wait to enjoy my favorite chocolates again. Unfortunately, this visit was incredibly disappointing. The first thing I noticed was the new logo and packaging. While I know businesses evolve, the new design loses the classic, elegant feel that made Krause's so special and instead looks much more generic. More importantly, the chocolates themselves are not the same. Many of the pieces are noticeably smaller than they used to be, and the chocolate tastes different. Several pieces even had bloom, which affected both their appearance and texture. I purchased a variety of chocolates, including individual pieces from the display case, chocolate bars, and peppermint patties, and every product seemed to reflect a decline in quality. To make matters worse, many of my longtime favorite pieces were no longer available. I've happily recommended Krause's for years because it consistently offered some of the best homemade chocolates in the Capital Region. This time, however, I left feeling disappointed and honestly saddened. I truly hope the owners will consider returning to the quality, recipes, and traditions that built Krause's outstanding reputation, because many longtime customers remember how exceptional their chocolates used to be.

Unfortunately, that was not the experience we had. We were able to see the cows, but only Beauty was in a pen close to the opening. There was another cow nearby with no name or information posted. There was no one in the barn area to talk with us, answer questions, introduce us to the cows, or tell us anything about them. We went into the chocolate shop specifically to ask about the "Meet Our Girls" experience. The young woman working at the front was very nice and did her best to help, but she didn't know much about the cows. She was able to tell us that one of the cows provides the milk used for the caramels and that milk from a mixture of the cows is used to make the chocolate. That was disappointing because it was very different from the experience we believed was being promoted on the website and described in reviews. If you grew up in Connecticut around farms, simply seeing cows in a barn isn't really a "unique experience." What would have made Thorncrest unique was actually getting to meet the girls, learn their names and personalities, hear about the different cows and their milk, and have someone there who could answer questions. We did buy the chocolate, and it is DELICIOUS! I would absolutely recommend stopping for the chocolate. I just wish the "Meet Our Girls" experience had lived up to what was advertised. Based on our visit, I would go knowing that the unique experience is really the chocolate shop -- not necessarily meeting the girls.

I tried a sample of the almond butter crunch and decided to bring some home with me too. It's the best butter crunch I have ever had that I couldn't even wait to have another piece until I got home. The Bon bons are so pretty and delectable. I picked the milk ganache, dark ganche, raspberry, hazelnut and strawberry cheesecake. The raspberry was my favorite. So glad to have a chocolate place close by. I will be back soon, I can't live without that butter crunch!

Once upon a time it was a lovely, decadent little shop and we looked forward to indulging in chocolates for our Tanglewood visit. Not anymore. For the last 4 years, the service has been poor and they are out of chocolates on a regular basis. FYI- there's not really any walking around during the tour; there's seating in a small section of the house to hear about the different sightings and such. If you're interested in trying something different, one of the flavors of chocolate "barks" is a chili lime dark chocolate. I think that one is my absolute favorite with a close second being the espresso dark chocolate. The chili lime starts with the deep chocolate flavor and lime....followed by a perfect buzz of chili. It's dangerously addictive. There are lots of different flavors of truffles (we snagged a box of 24 assorted!) and chocolate bars that are all absolutely wonderful. Super nice staff/owners....
