The work he did do is an unusable mess, rusting through after just two weeks!! I shared pictures, concerns, and requests for him to make it right. Gilbert scheduled me for a follow-up mid-week, and I adjusted my work schedule to accommodate. He no-showed, didn't communicate, and stopped responding to texts, calls, and emails. Worst customer service ever!! I called and spoke to Gilbert. I told him I had 23 doors that were painted with latex paint and I wanted them sandblasted. He told me he charges $300/hr and the estimate would be + $1000. He said he is happy to do a sample. So I took the door off it's hinges and drove it to south austin. Apparently his home address at 308 Cumberland. When I get there some guy who has no idea why I'm there comes out. He's obviously intoxicated or just woke up. He says oh you spoke to my brother Gilbert. I see a truck with ABC Sandblasting on the door. I feel slightly uneasy but was hopeful I found a diamond in the rough I left my door there. Didn't hear a word from anyone for 24 hours. I call he tells me my door is particle board and he doesn't think it's gonna work but he will try Saturday morning with a "walnut sand" I'm like ok what's one more day. I call Saturday at 12:30 and he says it isn't going to work. Well I go to pick up my door and I find it in the same place I left it. On the porch in the elements. This ass hole didn't even bother trying. Not only that but he ruined the door by leaving it outside in the elements. He told me to bring it over there then he tells me on the phone when I call to complain "where am I suppose to put the door" The door is now bowed and does not fit in the frame. Because they left a solid particle board door outside for 48 hours in hot and cold temps leaning up against some lawn furniture. So if you want your stuff treated like trash go ahead and give these guys a chance. He had the nerve to tell me my door isn't worth $30 but thinks he can charge $300 an hour! Excellent customer service. We had our building tagged during the marches and protests downtown. Gilbert and his team were very understanding and responded quickly in removing all grafitti from the brick wall. They did an excellent job and warrantied the service for 90 days, assuring me he would come back and remove any markings for free if for some reason the building is vandalized again with grafitti. These people are nasty and liars, they drop my piece and Gilbert and his brother which seem drunk try to get away by quickly placing my shelve in the truck. just now Critical: Professionalism, Quality, Value Initially they were very warm and welcoming. They were willing to go above and beyond for my project. I wanted to surprise my husband for his birthday by getting his competition/ business BBQ Pit sandblasted and repainted. They came to pick it up from my house and brought it back to me and everything. Man I really thought I was getting a great deal. I was so excited!!! But then.............. they show up and tell me they re did the lights on the trailer of the bbq pit because they weren't working, which they were and I didn't ask for them to do that, there were sooooooooo many spots they missed, between the damper doors not being painted, around the temperature gages not being painted, when it was delivered the fire box door had......and I quote "just fell off"......the weights on the back had bounced out of place and scratched the entire back up. Multiple places missing paint in the trailer and bbq pit. Then when they came up to my husband they gave him paint and said here ya go here's some touch up paint for anything we missed. My husband just kinda looked at me in shock like uhhhhh ok. ‍ So after initially surprising him and trying to get over the rage from the nerve they had leaving it there in that condition. I have them a call. I text them pictures. No response for a couple days. Finally I get a call. He says look I have your husband the touch up paint and he was cool with touching it up! I said ummm He didn't pay for it I did it was HIS surprise!! After several failed attempts for them to do the right thing and fix it or give me some of my money back he loses his patience and says look lady you need to chill ok happy Father's Day and hung up on me!!!! Do you have somewhere I can bring the tool box?" Gilbert: "yes, you can bring it to (redacted address)" me: "can you quote a price?" Gilbert: "a box is a box is a box. I gotta see it" me: "i'll bring it to you then" Gilbert: "ok, come on" 2:40pm Show up to Gilbert's home address and see someone working on the front porch me: "You the sandblast guy?" guy on porch: "no, he's not here right now" me: "he told me to come by?" guy on porch: "well, maybe he's on his way back?" me: "ok, I'll wait" 2:48pm Gilbert shows up with another gentleman me: "you the sandblast guy?" Gilbert: "yeah!" me: "here's the box:" Gilbert: "yeah, I can sandblast that, and you should do this inner lip" me: "well, I figure I can just sand that part (so as not to get sand inside the box) Gilbert: "well, it will look different" me: "ok, well then if it's not a problem, do it" Gilbert: "of course, I'll do it" me: "when should I come back, or should I pick it up somewhere?" Gilbert: "nah, the shop is in Del Valle, I'll bring it back here at 5pm. $100." 2:50pm Gilbert and the gentleman who'd shown up with him (Robert) proceed to pick up the tool box out of my truck bed and carry it to their flatbed. Robert immediately loses his grip and drops the box. He picks it up again, loses his grip, repositions, then loses it again, but not dropping the box. This guy looks drunk, and the box weighs no more than 45#, I can carry it by myself with ease. The get it to their truck and strap it to the flatbed. Leaving shortly after. 5:00pm Drive by Gilbert's house and park for a few minutes. Leave for an errand at work. 5:20pm Drive back by Gilbert's on my way to a friend's house, both of which are also on the way home. 7:40pm Get a message from Gilbert saying my box is ready for pick-up; I just missed this call before deciding to leave my friend's house, so I backtracked and stopped by Gilbert's 8:00pm Drive up to Gilbert's house, box it strapped to the back of his flatbed pickup. Gilbert: "here it is" me: (upon inspection) "you didn't blast the inside rail?" Gilbert: "yeah, we did, we just must have missed that little part (where I was looking)" me: (shining the flashlight on the entire rail) "you didn't do any of it.?" me: (looking the rest of the box over, there are more areas where they went light on the sand blasting or missed completely) "can I get a discount?" Gilbert: (visibly upset, begins to strap the box back down to his bed) "you know what!? I'll just keep it!" me: "now wait a minute, don't get hasty, you didn't do what you said you'd do, and I'm just asking for a discount" Gilbert: "this piece of shit tool box isn't worth $100" me: "that's not the issue, the issue is your performance, you didn't do a good job, now I have to finish it" 8:02pm My daughter, who had come with me, is now standing a few feet in front of me and between Gilbert and myself, holding her ears, looking upset Gilbert: (yelling) "what do you know about sandblasting? Why don't you just do it yourself?" me: "Listen, calm down, I don't need you getting worked up and upsetting my daughter. I don't know about sandblasting, that's why I brought it to you, and you dropped the box when you first touched it, and delivered it back without doing what we agreed you would do." me: (then I start looking at it more closely, and I noticed that the front and back were bowed out) "furthermore, you bowed it out because you rushed the job. I know that when you weld thin metals, you space out your welds to allow the metal to cool and not expand, because metal expands when you heat it up and thin metals will grossly distort. You should have done small sections to prevent this" Gilbert: "This box is a piece of shit! You should do it yourself!" me: "when you realized it was thin, you should have prepared accordingly or not taken the job" Gilbert: (calling Robert, who shows up even more drunk than he was when he dropped my box at 2:45pm) "Robert! I thought you said you blasted this lip?" Robert: "yeah?" me: "you didn't, obviously" Gilbert: "Robert, just grab the box" (which I had already moved from his flat bed to my truck bed, after paying him) me: "no, I'll just leave" Robert: "Your daddy better leave, before he gets his ass whipped" 8:10pm At this point, things have severely deteriorated. Months have passed and even after being informed that the crib was finished and would be delivered on numerous occasions, today we found out he hasn't even done the work on it (he said he lost the paper work and didn't know what to do). Friday 12/21: Well, unfortunately, we cannot seem to get our patio furniture returned. I had Gilbert come out on December 3rd and he picked up six patio chairs, a metal patio table and a chaise lounge - all of which belonged to my husband's grandmother. I wanted to surprise my husband by having it sandblasted and painted for him. Gilbert assured me that he would have it back to us - at the latest, a week from then. I've called numerous times and twice they have set a date/time for delivery and not shown up. We are going on three weeks and they no-showed again last night and are not answering our calls today. I left a voice mail last night requesting the exact location where we could go pick up our furniture - nothing. Google maps shows the business address as a residence. I am really hoping this will be resolved immediately as Gamma's furniture means a lot to us... I'd be happy to revise this review if we can get our furniture back. At this point - we just want it returned. I'm really disappointed that someone would be this evasive knowing that it was a Christmas gift... and the furniture belonged to our family. Sad that this would happen around Christmas. I would also be more than understanding if anyone at the company had communicated with me to let us know there was going to be a delay... at this point, I'm wondering who the heck actually has our furniture! Saturday 12/22: Update: My husband and father in law had to randomly show up at the office/home address listed for ABC Sandblasting. The gentleman there said he would take them to our furniture and apologized - apparently, no one had ever started the job and just kept putting us off. Gilbert was there, but wouldn't come out to talk to my husband or father in law. We had to rent a trailer from UHaul and pick our furniture up at another location. I would have been completely understanding if Gilbert had just told us that he was running behind and the job was going to take much longer. Instead, we were told it was done and really got the run around. Very disappointing to say the least. Now - I've got to find someone else to do the job AND my husband didn't really get a Christmas gift - except for having to drive down from Cedar Park and pick up our furniture, which had not been finished. :( read more

I can't recommend Gilbert and ABC Sandblasting & Coatings enough! I have a six-piece set of antique patio furniture that I had planned to strip and repaint myself. Three pieces of this set had sat on a cliff-side for over 80 years so, needless to say, it was in pretty rough shape. Tons of rust and paint chips. Before I got to work I figured I'd get a quote on sandblasting first. I called Gilbert on a Sunday evening and within 45 minutes, he arrived at my house to check out the furniture!! He gave me an incredibly reasonable quote and took the furniture with him right there and then. Within 24 hours, he dropped my perfectly sandblasted and primed furniture off to my house. I've been a customer of ABC Sandblasting for more than ten years, with numerous automotive restoration projects; steel wheels, headers, intakes, etc. I have a sandblasting booth in my shop, but it hardly gets used because Gilbert strips my parts faster and cheaper than I can do it myself. Free pickup and delivery, quick turn around, and of course excellent results; why go anywhere else? UPDATE! Called Gilbert yesterday morning (3/14/18) about a sandblasting job, he said he was too busy to come pick up my parts, but that he could do it if I brought them to his shop. I had some time, so I drove out to Del Valle. When I arrived about 30 minutes later, he wasn't there. I finally spoke to him on the phone and he asked what I had. I told him five 13" steel wheels (which is exactly what I told him less than an hour earlier). He said $25 each (which is the same price he has always charged me) and I jokingly replied "that's the same price you charge when you pick up and deliver the parts" at which point he exploded "I don't need your little $#!+, I've got bigger jobs to do, I'm just doing you a favor." I said "It's cool bro, keep your shirt on, I'll pay you the $125," but he wasn't finished ranting. He said that he wasn't going to take a check from me, "cash only" (I've always paid cash). Whatever dude. Maybe he forgot to take his meds, maybe he's got a loan-shark leaning on him, maybe his dog died. I had Gilbert and crew sand blast my home yesterday. They had to remove layers of paint, some of which dated back 60 years, from the exterior wood siding. They arrived on time and went to work. Gilbert was very personable. All the work was completed in one day. The work was up to my expectation. I would have recommend ABC Sand Blasting had it not been for my discovering 4 cracked windows caused by their men. When I confronted Gilbert with the problem, he became evasive, belligerent, and then said F__k you and hung up the phone. I consider this behavior completely irresponsible. almost to the "t" to a below review. I spoke with Gilbert and he was very professional and explained to me the process to refinish my steel patio furniture. The Good, 1. came to my home to pick up. about a 30 minute drive for sure. 2. the actual sandblasting/cleanup of old paint was great. The not good, 1. it took longer than expected to refinish the furniture. by several days. 2. the paint was substandard. thin in some areas, thick in others and to top it off overspray in some areas. 3. when the furniture was returned, the paint was so fresh that the straps gouged the fresh paint. 4. the "promises" to provide me with touch up paint. the so called touch up paint never materialized. in closing, if you are not in a hurry to get the item sandblasted, they do a good job of that. painting........... forget it. save a lot of money and buy a few cans of spray paint at your local home improvement store. you are likely to do a better job than the so called painter he hires. I have no shame in saying the paint work sucked. the only reason he is getting a star is because of the sandblasting itself read more

If you use this company, you may be sorry you did. Using Gilbert's paint recommendation, I had him paint my building with a white coating that turned yellow. He assured me that he would make it right. It is now a year later. After many false promises, my walls are still yellow. Bottom line, he doesn't stand by his work and he lies a lot. My general contractor hired ABC to do the sandblasting and painting for this part of our home renovation project. After the demolition work was completed by the GC, yesterday ABC sandblasted to bare metal three 22-year old, rusty i-beams supporting a 40' pedestrian bridge on our property. Then they primed it with Sherwin Williams Kem Kromik and finish painted it with SW Macropoxy 646 (for those of you who may be interested in such details). They did an outstanding job (and I pay attention to construction quality). Before the project started I thought I knew the best finish coating to use, but Gilbert explained to me why the SW Macropoxy was the best way to go for these i-beams. I'm glad I listened to him, and I would recommend anyone needing the special expertise involved in sandblasting and professionally applied primers and coatings contact ABC--and listen to Gilbert's professional advice. Based on my experience, he knows his stuff as do his workers, who I watched ply their trade diligently all day yesterday and part of today. I'm very glad my general contractor (Franks Painting and Construction) hired ABC for this project. read more
