He even showed an animated video highlighting what they would do. I felt confident and assured that Dr. O'Dell and his staff would take care of me. I made the appointment for several months later, and was given reminders via email about my appointment. When I had to change the operation time a month or so prior to the original date, the receptionist was very accommodating. The nurse went through all the necessary paperwork and left me complete pre-and post-operative instructions that were clear and easy to follow. The receptionist also gave my husband a copy when he went to make payment by check. They give a small discount for paying two weeks in advance by check or cash, which is quite generous if you're having a large procedure/operation done. The day of the surgery, we came at 6:50 am and everyone was already there, ready to receive us at 7. I went in a little early, and they took me to one of their rooms that had been prepped for the operation. One of the nurses in the room gave me a blanket so I wouldn't get cold (yes, it's very cold in their patient rooms). Dr. O'Dell started on an IV right away. Next thing I know, I'm being taken in a wheelchair to my husband's car. No pain, no memory, and barely conscious still. It was the best surgical experience of my life. By the way, I saw him at his San Marcos clinic off 400 San Antonio Drive near downtown San Marcos. It's a very clean facility.

Despite what their patient forms on their own website say, Sara stated that this is a new policy and wouldn't take a $50 deposit for a new appointment. Asked to speak with a Doctor but was told none were available.

I found him to be honest and give good explanation in telling me the dentist I was getting a second opinion on was planning to repair teeth that did not need repair; he took xrays and did an exam. I had already suspected this new dentist was wrong given that I had been to my regular dentist every 6 months but he retired and sold his practice to this new dentist. And so 6 months after my last good checkup, I went to the new dentist for a checkup and she found $2k worth of dental work was needed. I knew it couldn't be true given the years I had seen my dentist every 6 mos. Dr McMordie did not enable this bad dentist in the least. I appreciated his integrity that he was willing to tell the truth. Turned out he was right bec that happened 9 years ago and I have not had dental work performed since while still having checkups.

Every specialist I've ever been to recommends him highly. He's done lots of work for me. A bridge. An implant. Plenty of general dentistry. That bridge is now 25+ years old and still going strong and great-looking. He wouldn't do an implant at the time because he didn't feel the technology was sufficient. The implant, now 2 years old, is excellent. He knows his stuff and never, ever recommends something he doesn't think will be useful. For example, I have a small chip on a front tooth. I'd love to have it fixed but he says no because he feels like doing so will damage the tooth and be too temporary as the chip is so small that any repair would just break off. You've got to love a guy who is so at the forefront of dentistry so as not to trust anything until he knows it works. For cleanings, I used to have Sandy who has now retired. His wife, Patsy, now does them and she's just as good! She, like Sandy, doesn't just clean the teeth, she looks at your record, assesses previous appts and acts accordingly. Very professional. This is a family practice, very small. They know you. They seem to look forward to seeing you to catch up. It is genuine. Not some fake niceness. I've referred tons of people there. So you know, and I've been told this by quite a few people I've referred, looks are deceiving. The office is very 1970. The equipment looks ancient, but what's changed in a dental light? What's changed in a chair? Let that visual go. Meet the guy and his small staff. You will not be disappointed. When he's referred me, it's only been the best. When I had a "sick" tooth needing a route canal or extraction, that guy was available and professional, met me after after hours at no additional charge, etc. Dr. McMordie knows not just his stuff but, if not in his area, whom to refer you too. As it turned out, I noticed later that day that the roof of my mouth was bleeding more than it should. I contacted him and he told me to come to the office (it was 4:30pm, past time for him to go home) and he'd get me fixed up. We arrived around 5pm, and he ended up spending over an hour with us, giving me a couple more stitches, and having me wait a little while there to be sure everything was calmed down. My recovery has been GREAT, with very little discomfort. The personalized care I have received at this office is above and beyond what I ever expected. My initial consultation with Dr. Bob was informative and didn't feel at all like the usual dentist sales pitch. I could tell that Dr. Bob genuinely cared, even though he just met me. He took the time to explain to me exactly why my caps needed to be replaced, showing me x-rays and pictures of the area. I went back a few months after my initial consultation to have the work done (once my new insurance kicked in) and couldn't have been happier with my visit. The work took a few hours, but flew by mainly because of how nice he and his staff are. My dental assistant was Sara and she was friendly and talkative, even asking me several times if I was comfortable and wanted any water. Throughout the process, Dr. Bob explained exactly what he was doing every step of the way. It might sound silly, but I felt like I was being educated, rather than just sitting there bored. Jeff was my dentist for maybe 30 to 35 years. Never once did he do a procedure, xray, or work he…read moredidn't feel he could do or deemed necessary. He also didn't jump right in to do one either. He took a "wait and see" attitude and kept an eye on it. The if it needed it, he took care of it. He preferred to refer you to highly qualified experts which I find an asset rather than having someone fumble their way through a procedure and perhaps do more harm than good. No, Jeff isn't for everyone. He doesn't suffer fools gladly, and he didn't want to do children of any age or adults with past dental traumas. But there is a very, very good reason why. He served as a medic in Vietnam during the war, and was there on the day of the famous evacuation of families and children. Beyond that I cannot say because he is a man of integrity, respect, and intense privacy. Once when I asked Jeff to treat my then 8 yo son he told me to take him to a pedodontist when my son cried upon seeing the needle. It was only later that I could guess why. I miss him, and it hurts not to be his patient anymore. I have yet to find a dentist I know I'll stick with. Jeff wasn't in it for the money. A living yes, but not the money it would take to dress up his office with remodeling, plush furniture, paintings, and decorations. That can help or hurt a dentist. Those who "judge a book by its cover" may find the "70s" decor with cinder block white painted walls, and mementos of his life and framed collages of his time in Vietnam off-putting. And yes some of his major equipment showed wear and tear, but it worked just as well as the new 2016 showroom floor models. It also meant it kept his overhead down, way down. I don't know how much less but my cleaning earlier this year cost at least four times the $69 for cleanings Jeff charged and Jeff did the cleaning. He would say several times over the years, he'd rather keep his prices low so people would get dental care, than not and suffer through worsening conditions. Yes, Jeff is and was becoming a crusty old man, but the situation that caused his retirement wasn't the only serious condition which he had to fight. He never let on about it. Sometimes, after he knew you well enough and a relationship had developed, he let little snippets out. I can safely say, he was an Aggie of the Brigade through and through, with a backbone of steel to take him through the dark times, and love of humour, and every corny Aggie joke out there to share. For a number of years he donated his time to nursing homes, telling jokes, and doing other things to bring laughter to those who are forgotten, the elderly. For those who feel going to a dentist in a well decorated, plush, elegant office, with lots of staff, and lots of the newest, latest tools of the trade, then that is where they should go. It doesn't mean the quality of their work is better or necessary. It means there's a big budget to take care of those things. The same for offices with multiple dental specialist for just about everything. The practice's fees pay for it, and when your insurance runs out, it comes from your pocket. It's going to take time to find a new dentist, one who has just some of the same qualities as Jeff, a no frills skillful dentist with commensurate fees to match. The only good thing to come from his retirement is I take better care of my teeth now than I did before. Jeff is a good man and a good dentist who cared more about his patients than his bottom line or how nice his office looked. I miss him.

She was extremely accommodating with the scheduling, very pleasant and easy going with everything that we wanted to have done. I arrived with a very friendly welcoming, the paperwork was very easy and fast to fill out and the lobby is inviting with personal photos of Dr Nieland and all of his lovely animals and family....He was very personable, humorous and made me feel comfortable the whole visit..also did a great job on my cleaning, was clean and Knowledgeable...I recommend him to anyone...and I will definitely be going back..

Though we had always heard the root canal procedure was very unpleasant, we were pleased to discover that it was not nearly as painful as we expected. My wife chose to have oral sedation, while I had nitrous oxide during the procedure. If you need a root canal, this is the place to have it.

Marvelous dentist, office, staff!…read more I've had two brother-in-law Dentists and am very picky about who gets to put their hands in my mouth. Unfortunately I've spent much more time than I ever wanted to in Dentist chairs. I inherited poor teeth and although I eventually started taking much better care of them, they were neglected for much of my misspent youth. I don't get cavities anymore, but with all the crowns I have, my problems are usually worse. I thought the worst was re-doing a root canal through an old crown a few years back, but I was wrong. Last Spring when an old root canal started bothering me, the endodontist (root canal specialist) didn't think the tooth was saveable. She was right too. I went to see Dr. Ferguson, he took his time explaining everything I needed to know, and answering all my questions. Unfortunately I needed the tooth removed and an implant done. His helpful office submitted a predetermination to my insurance company and there weren't any surprises there. In fact, I elected to pay the amount off over a year, with 12 monthly, no-interest payments, through Wells Fargo Bank. That was something the office gave me the application for. Although having an extraction and implant is even less fun than a root canal, Dr. Ferguson was great. He was always available and by following the care instructions that were given carefully, I've survived with a minimum of discomfort. I would highly recommend this wonderful practice if you ever have need of a periodontist.
