I think it's a monthly magazine, with special editions for Spring Break. Their pullout Happy Hour Guide is very useful. They show a grid of all the local pubs and bars offering happy hours, what and when they are, and where they are. Somebody has put a lot of research into the bars to find out all this info, and saves the thrifty student a lot of time and money. Most of the bars are located in the local university's vicinity. Their pictures are all of local places, with local people looking beautiful and chugging beer, dancing and having fun. The advertisements in here are slick, full color ads. They're usually for local bars and beer brands. I tend to check out the ads, as they often announce concerts and festivals. I appreciate the column where they interview a random Millennial, and ask them questions to get a glimpse into the generation. Pokemon is mentioned most of the time. A lot of the columns are features like how Maxim Magazine works- top 3 lists, and most articles are shorter than this Yelp review. There's sometimes coupons in here for freebies from local restaurants aimed at students. I believe that currently, Study Breaks serves UT, UTSA, Texas State, and Texas Tech.

They carry a lot of book titles and if they don't have it in store, you can order online as well. They also sell notebooks, cards, merch, and lots of knick knacks. Seating inside can be limited but there's lots of outdoor seating too. There's a parking lot across the street if the parking lot next door is full and they also have lots of neighborhood parking. Overall, great place to browse books, stationary, read, and grab a drink!

Additionally there's cards, magazines, stationery, merch, etc. It's bright, relaxing and just a space you want to stay in all day. The outside seating is nice on a cooler day as well. Yep, how wonderfully Austin. The book selections focus on social justice, economic justice, etc. It's a gathering space for like-minded people and I feel so at home when there. They have different events like creative art nights and study groups. There's an area that has a shelving unit containing free items. Sofas, lounge area, coffee/tea area. Space for kids to create. If I saw a guy wearing those in a bar, I'd pass my wine through my nose.

The email newsletter is where it's at. Have you seen all the free events? As soon as that email hits the inbox, I open up my Google calendar (which automatically texts me an hour before my events (no I do not have an iPhone (do not judge me))) and systematically add all the fun stuff. I then start planning who will go with me for the free drinks, snacks and cupcakes, the goodie bag, the coupon giveaway, the so on and so forth. Every now and then an event is held in a place that has a clearance rack, which has it's own clearance rack, which is where you might find me making a fabulous fashion discovery. They have a large selection of books, music, and movies. It is a large place. We found a few books and left, we didn't stay long. Check out was fine, we didn't need any other help.

Amidst a bath in realtor ads, I get word they're going to build an alley way behind my house next year, or Vino Vino got the support they needed last month, or of holiday parties erupting through the neighborhood. No gossip, just good attention to home ownership. Another reason Hyde Park's such a great place to live. Getting the Pecan Press (named for our original Pecan grove the hood was built in) costs 1 dollar a year and includes membership to the neighborhood association (which means you can vote).
