Financial Services at the Cancer Center in Georgetown are inept and amateur. You wait on the phone to pay your Co-pay for over 20 minutes and then disconnected. The Doctors and Radiation team are great. Financial services and support are non-existent. Sad. For this reason I give Cancer Center support services a very negative feedback. read more

WATCH YOUR BILLING. BENJAMIN DOWNIE is running multiple fraudulent schemes to line his pockets. I don't see that he necessarily "cares" about his patients AT ALL. How do I know? Well, for starters...if you are a fertile or peri-menopausal woman with ANY type of anemia (even the kind that can't be corrected with IRON--as in LEUKEMIA), he will prescribe NON-INDICATED IRON INFUSIONS for which you PAY, OUT-OF-POCKET, for $630...because your insurance knows the treatment is NON-INDICATED. He'll order a ton of blood tests at your initial appointment, and magically be "out-of-town" when your results arrive, showing that your anemia is NOT RELATED to LOW IRON. You'll ask a nurse if the iron infusions are still indicated...and, after you sit for five minutes on hold, she'll come back in to say..."Yes...we think they will HELP you." You'll be told that Dr. Downie will meet with you to review blood test results AFTER YOUR SECOND (CONTRA-INDICATED, NON-COVERED) poisonous FERAHEME infusion. --BTW, a year ago I met--by sheer coincidence--a perimenopausal female phlebotomist who saw Downie for LOW PLATELETS. He talked down to her and her husband, and stared at her breasts just like he did with me. He recommended IRON INFUSIONS for her LOW PLATELET ISSUES. UMMM? NOT APPLICABLE at all?.... and she was SMART ENOUGH to POLITELY DECLINE.) Back to the FERAMEME infusion. When I arrived--about a week-and-a-half after my first appt. with for darling Dr. DOWNIE--to receive the FIRST of TWO prescribed FERAHEME iron infusions at the Georgtown-situated Austin Cancer Center, I paid the $630. out-of-pocket. I was led to a chair in the INFUSION ROOM of the Georgetown AUSTIN CANCER CENTER, where I was asked to sign A WAIVER for INJURY from the FERAHEME INFUSION. I read that FERAHEME is ONLY indicated for IRON-DEFICIENCY ANEMIA--which I DON'T HAVE--in patients with CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE--which I also DON'T HAVE. Well, since I used to see physicians as AUTHORITY FIGURES, I went ahead with the FERAHEME INFUSION, along with the sizable IVs of STERIODS and BENADRYL--employed to protect me from documented SUDDEN DEATH. The day after the FIRST FERAHEME INFUSION, I was violently ill. I was crapping out stuff that smelled like LIVER. I realized that I was a potential victim of IRON OVERLOAD. My body couldn't handle the massive OVERLOAD of IRON I DIDN'T NEED. When I refused the SECOND INFUSION, Downie DROPPED ME AS A PATIENT. I never received communication about my initial test results, so I found them on the Patient Portal. DOWNIE is about INSURANCE and MEDICATE FRAUD--he's prescribing NON-INDICATED, HARMFUL treatments TO MAKE A BUCK. ACC also DOUBLE-BILLED my insurance for TWO PROCEDURES, and sent THE SAME BLOOD SAMPLES to MULTIPLE LABS with OVER-INFLATED BILLS I received A YEAR-AND-A-HALF later. TODAY (18 months LATER, on 12/4/19) I received YET ANOTHER BILL from ACC for the POISONOUS FERAHEME INFUSION for which I had paid $630, OUT-OF-POCKET, on 6/12/18. It turns out that--while my insurance STILL REFUSED TO COVER THE FERAHAME--they negotated MY out-of-pocket cost for FERAHEME at $130.89. Today's bill is for $130.89; a cost that's not only NOT DUE. I am actually owed a REFUND of around $499., because ACC knew about the negotiated rate but still ASKED FOR $630. up front. Medical billing is confusing--especially when it's trickled out past 18 months, which is the cut-off rule for payment for late medical billing in Texas. Consider that Dr. DOWNIE usually deals with ELDERLY, Medicare patients (i.e., your potential loved ones; PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS ) who can't keep track of the crazy-confusing bills sent to Medicare, and you may very well smell a rat who's only looking out for himself. Let's see what the TEXAS MEDICAL BOARD thinks when I file a complaint. Something is clearly ROTTEN HERE, and DOWNIE must think WOMEN ARE JUST STUPID. THIS. IS. FRAUD. read more

Dr.Rivera was treating my dad who had throat cancer. 12 weeks of chemo and radiation. towards the end of my dad's treatments we were told everything was fine nothing looked wrong. my dad started getting sicker and sicker. Ended up taking him to the hospital a few days later he's in the ICU. Turns out the cancer spreaded very aggressively. I thought everything looked fine and nothing was wrong? my dad ended up passing away all thanks to Dr.Rivera. not to mention he did treatments on my uncle who which passed away in 2014. He always did treatments on my boyfriends grandpa the first person Dr.Rivera did his first experiment on and he ended up passing away within a few months. He sucks. please don't let your loved ones be treated by Dr.Rivera! my dad didn't deserve this. read more

The Georgetown Texas Cancer Center has been treating my Throat Cancer and it went into remission but then I was told they needed to treat the subsequent Lung Cancer. Dr. Rivera told me this morning. And I told him when you use the Cancer Center phone number online first you are routed to the Austin location and then for 30 minutes you are transferred to who knows where. You never get to talk to a Human. By the time I get a call back, I might be dead. I give up! Still cannot get in touch with a human to confirm my Cancer Treatments! read more

Dr. Downie is one of the most experienced and caring doctors I have ever known. I was recently gravely ill with ITP. I was in the hospital twice and was in critical condition. Dr. Downie began treating my condition and even after several treatment options failed he has not given up on me. I am currently still battling aggressive ITP,Dr. Downie refuses to give up and he and I are going to beat this condition. read more

Medical care from doctors and nurses always first rate. The problem here was admin, billing, and insurance. Even scheduling area botched getting a biopsy scheduled and payment agreement with insurance done properly. I don't think I ever received a bill and there was always questions or mistakes in payment processing. The insurance liaison never returned my calls or email. They charge me when they call me back with my blood results. Who does that?! Just because the Nurse called me, they charged me another copay. I would prefer to have a letter with the results mailed to me. I would expect, at least, for them to let me know that I would be charged to get my blood test results and not just charge me because a nurse called me. Thank God the doctor did not call me or my bill would be 10x bigger. The problem is not the money, I can afford it to pay my bills. The problem is that they do not care for the people they are taking care of. They do not know if I could afford this bill and they never bother to inform me about it. I got a surprise mail with my bill. This has never happened with any other doctor, clinic, hospital, or any other place that I have been in it. I would definitely NOT go back there and I do NOT recommend you to go there. They DON'T care about you, only your money! And this is a cancer center where I would expect some type of love/care for their patients. Please run away from this place or you will lose your wallet in there. After a lumpectomy for breast cancer, I was referred to the Austin Cancer Center in Georgetown, TX. This is where I live, so I was delighted to be so close. I chose internal delivery radiation treatments. This meant 2 intense treatments daily for only 5 days. A large port was implanted and remained for the length of time needed. The doctors, nurses, techs, front desk people - everyone - were wonderful, caring and sensitive people. the treatments were professional and carefully administered with gentleness and compassion. I always felt comfortable and confident that I was getting the best care possible. I have been cancer-free for one year, and still visit the oncologists at Austin Cancer Center in Georgetown regularly. I can't thank all of the people there enough for the wonderful, compassionate care I have received there. read more
